ARCHIVED Help! I Seem To Be Intolerant Of Everything!
jststric replied to shayre's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am very much the same as "glowball" I had been lactose-intolerant for about 15 yrs when SUDDENLY the symptoms I had with that went into turbo-drive and it wasn't the only thing bothering me. It took MONTHS of eliminating foods from my diet but ended up with glutens, dairy, eggs, nuts, rice, beans. Allergy tests found a couple of things that had NEVER... -
ARCHIVED Avocado & Floating Stools
jststric replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have started having issues with avacados too! How weird is that? I'm wondering if it's not justthe fiber content? Or perhaps just eating too much avacado at once? Would love to know, tho, as I love them and I've certainly given up enough foods! -
ARCHIVED Damn. Help Me Go Dairy-Free Too.
jststric replied to danaf617's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was dairy-intolerant for years prior to my gluten issues showed up. I can do Lactaid milk and have just discovered I can do mozz. cheese sticks....or least SOME occasionally. The subsitute cheeses arent' great. I hear Daiya is pretty good but it, also, is based from rice, which is another issue food for me. My best advice would be to read the ingredients... -
Very interesting! Because I can't seem to do white rice but can do brown rice...to some degree! It's SO interesting how we all differ so much while being so much alike at the same time! And my rice issue showed up at the same time my gluten issue did, along with nuts, beans, dairy and eggs. Very weird.

ARCHIVED Ever Thought About Airborne Gluten?
jststric replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suspected. I was going to apply for a job at a new gourmet pretzel shop here in town a few months ago and it occurred to me that perhaps having the flours, nuts etc would be a problem. -
ARCHIVED Kirkland Spices At Costco
jststric replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not that I've tried them all, but I shop Costco all the time and used many of their spices with no problems. I have been very happy with their vitamins and calcium also with no problems. -
ARCHIVED Imitation Crab Meat
jststric replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
actually, I googled a little and came up with this....more than you wanted to know, but if you are the adventursome type and can experiment alot, at the bottom of the section titled Raw Materials (I think) describes some things in it. Perhaps you could come up with something. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Imitation Crab Meat
jststric replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you find one, please let us know! I LOVED the imitation crab and miss it very much. But I haven't found any that we can have. -
ARCHIVED Omg Is All I Can Think To Say - Omg!
jststric replied to conniebky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've read many a post on here of people needing makeup, shampoo, etc that's gluten-free because of such things! I am not bothered that badly....yet, lol. I never even KNEW stuff like that had gluten in it! Bless your heart....a true allergy could be an issue for you. -
I get my probiotics from Kirkman Labs. www.kirkmanlabs.com They have a nice selection of allergen-free products. I use their Lactobacillus Acidophilus and its 3.0 billion CFU's per capsule. The ingredients are Microcrystalline Cellulose, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Silicon Dioxide, Plant Cellulose Capsule. That's it. Their customer service is excellent...

I'm so sorry. I also have multiple intolerances including glutens, dairy, eggs, nuts, beans, rice. But I get most of my staying power from meat. I have to have it to function my best. Have you found what is your NEEDED thing? Its a challenge when you are still trying to figure out just what things are your nemeses. Sometimes I get so tired of plain,...

ARCHIVED New To Eating Out Gluten Free
jststric replied to lilbit's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Personally, I find the nicer the restaurant, the easier it is. They usually have more options and the chefs are usually very open to talking to you about your needs. The "holes" are the impossible ones for me. Now, if you know there is a real cook in them....one that does more than open food-service products, then you might have a chance of getting something... -
ARCHIVED Pork Rinds
jststric replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to enjoy the occassional pork-rind until my sensitivities hit. Like you, the ingredients SEEM fine but, boy, I suffered a great deal. I would try to stick with brands that strictly do pork-rinds, to no avail. Don't know what there is about them, but they are on my no-no list now. -
ARCHIVED Is My Assumption Correct?
jststric replied to RideAllWays's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Really? I never would have thought! It's been ages since having those things but was back in my hometown last summer and one of the Quick Trips had a RedHots flavor that was the bomb! I had NO problems and I am pretty sensitive....not Celiac, but intolerant. I have to consider possible dairy in things and I was more worried about that in slurpees that... -
ARCHIVED More And More I Read The Scary This Gets!
jststric replied to prisskitty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I don't know this particular "doctor", but I do know enough to know that doctors, overall, in this country are very poorly versed in our issues. Also, I think I read once that more than 50% of Celiac or gluten-intolerant people are also intolerant of multiple other foods. There IS the issue of cross-contamination at mills and such. I happen to be... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics - Share Your Experience!
jststric replied to GFLindsey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't taken your brands you mention. But I do take probiotics from Kirkman Labs. They have gluten-free and allergen-free products and I started out with "leaky gut" and needed to heal that. Once I found an allergen-free product, it helped greatly. I still take one/daily and sometimes a 2nd one if I feel I've been contaminated in any way with one or... -
We use it all the time!

ARCHIVED Anyone Intolerant To Rice?
jststric replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, I found that I am intolerant of rice and beans, both. But after staying away from them for a LONG time, I have recently found that I can have a little once in a blue moon and do ok. I've been having brown rice tho. Its quite the bummer when most of the gluten-free products replace the gluten with rice or bean flours!! I have discovered I can have... -
ARCHIVED Tastefully Simple
jststric replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would say don't buy anything you can't see the ingredients list for yourself. Just an added thought that would affect me if I were in your situation. I am also gluten-intolerant, but seem to be very sensitive to any possible cross-contamination. So I have to be careful no only what the ingredients or labels say, but consider what else the company makes... -
I am like you...not Celiac but lots of other intolerances/allergies. I have done well enough at Applebee's but as others have said, you have to be careful. Not all tortilla chips are 100% corn. Many brands also have wheat in them. Grilled chicken can, and often is, dusted a bit with flour to have it brown. Just ask KFC! I stick with vinagarette dressings...

ARCHIVED Chebe Clone? Not Quite!
jststric replied to ItsaDollThang's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Good luck! Let us know if you figure it out! I'm too cheap to do what you are doing, but would love not to pay the high prices for the mixes. -
ARCHIVED Alcoholic Beverage Products
jststric replied to ajsceliak's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From all my reading in the past, the vodkas should be fine. Rums are questionable, if they are not made in the US. Anything dark and brown should be questioned if made elsewhere. Not much of a rum drinker myself, so unfamiliar with them. -
ARCHIVED Caprese Salad
jststric replied to Nightingale8472's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What I would give to be able to eat that with no fear!! I used to LOVE it. Also dairy intolerant! -
I'm not a diagnosed Celiac. I think I'm "only" gluten-intolerant. But I seem to be pretty sensitive and have had trouble with items that say "processed in facilities that also.....". Now, I seem to be in the minority about oats. I have had issues with generic brands but as long as I stick with Quaker Oats, in addition to the more expensive exclusive oat...

ARCHIVED Can'T Figure Out What Caused Reaction, I Need Help
jststric replied to DoodleDog's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am very much that way with white rice flour also.
