ARCHIVED Glutino " Poptarts"
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can't please everyone! I have no issues with anything other than gluten right now, so I didn't even look at that. There is a vegan gluten-free bakery here in KC that made a poptart type thing. So there is hope for your family. -
ARCHIVED Glutino " Poptarts"
kareng posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just had one of these. Pretty good! Open Original Shared Link Disclaimer - Yes. I know they are not " good" for me. But I think we need some fun foods occasionally. Poptarts are big at my kid's HS. Nice for a kid to have the same junk the others have. They are individually wrapped so great to take with your toaster Baggie to a sleep- over... -
I love the " snacking" aspect of them. You get a meal, in little snack packets. You can keep one for later or eat all the little packets now. I don't care for tuna but the hummus, sun nut butter, turkey pepperoni and the black bean ones are all good. You can also get little squeeze packs of PB and walnut butter, etc at health food stores.

These are good to keep on hand. They do make non- gluten-free ones, so read them. I get them at Target and HyVee ( grocery) Open Original Shared Link I like to keep these on my purse. I am one of the few that don't like Lara bars Open Original Shared Link

Hi! I'm in KC, too. There are different chains of grocerys named Giant. And I think they have Price Chopper in the northeast? It's not the same company as ours. Do we have Giant groceries here? -

ARCHIVED Any Favorite Gluten-Free Vegan Cookbooks?
kareng replied to RyanIN's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You might find more on the Internet. You could make your own cookbook by printing them out. I use a loose leaf binder and put recipes inside the sheet protectors. Makes them easy to wipe off and you can take them out of the binder when cooking so you only have 1 paper on the counter. She seems to do a lot of vegan baking : Open Original Shared... -
ARCHIVED Do gluten-free Flours Really Need To Be Refrigerated?
kareng replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just spent the kids inheritance at Bed, Bath & Beyond to get some of those Oxo things for my flours. I do keep the almond in the freezer. I think that can go bad easier, but I don't have any evidence. -

ARCHIVED Ants In Our Bathroom-Need Bug Spray-Help
kareng replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I doubt it. It's sprayed on the ground or the surface from a few inches away. Your not going to eat it. If they need to spray where your plates are, which is unlikely, you can take them out or wash well after. I would find out if you are dealing with termites or ants or both, first. Find out where they are going to spray and then pick up the extra... -
ARCHIVED Ants In Our Bathroom-Need Bug Spray-Help
kareng replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep! Prickly and I agree, the ants are living in the house walls or someplace. This needs an exterminator. Are they tiny ants? That's annoying but not too bad. If they are big, Run, don't walk to the phone and call an exterminator. They can spray in the a.m. And you can go out for the day. -
ARCHIVED Ants In Our Bathroom-Need Bug Spray-Help
kareng replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ok. I'll try. This is based on many years of experience in fighting ants. Is it warm where you are? I'm hoping it is and the ants are coming in from the outside. If its cold there, the ants have made a home in your walls or floor. If they are coming in from outside, you need to find where they are coming in. Look carefully for ants climbing up the... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
kareng replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found some sweet rice flour. I was trying to avoid going to the Asian store as it was out of the way. Last night we had chicken tacos. I used iceberg lettuce for my shell. Tonight we are having some experimental appetizers. I am having people over next Friday and haven't decided what to make yet. A little late for Valentines Day but I just saw... -
ARCHIVED Doing A gluten-free Trial
kareng replied to keeponsingin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Reasons I can think of quickly to get a "real" diagnosis: Future medical care For kids - need a DX to get special food or accomadations in a classroom (like don't have to take cooking class in middle school) College - not required to have a meal plan that can't accomadate Celiac or need a Diagnosis to get the gluten-free food Hopsital/nursing home ... -
ARCHIVED Family Wanting To Learn More
kareng replied to Flaykee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
the Univ of Chicago Celiac Center has an easy to read website. In the FAQ sections, you can put in a word like genetics and see that it's inherited, for example. The Living with Celiac part is easy to read too. You might give them the link and they can look when they want. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED "you Can Eat Just A Little Bit, Can't You?"
kareng replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea. You're right. I guess there is a difference between offering and, after being told "NO Thanks, I can't", still trying to get someone to eat it. What I was trying to say is that people like to feed others. But there is a line between offering and insisting.
