				ARCHIVED New Planet
kareng replied to RonSchon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink the green one all the time. I'm not a fan of fruit flavors to drink with food. We seem to really like Ft Collins at my house. My oldest goes to school there. My hub loves O'dells (not gluten-free) and I like the New Planet. Youngest is thinking of going to college at CSU,too. We may have to move there! -
Just got this from my aunt in Ohio. IT'S SO HOT .....REALLY - HOW HOT IS IT ........? ......the birds have to use potholders to pull the worms out of the ground. .....the trees are whistling for the dogs. .....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance .....hot water comes from both taps. .....you...

It's Ok to be a bit mad or sad that we can't participate. My hub is taking the boys to a bar we liked to go to pre Celiac. They are meeting up with some other family members and playing pool and eating junk food. I know we can't get safe food for me there, so I decided I would be too unhappy or sad or grumpy watching them eat. So I'm staying home. If...

ARCHIVED Glutened By Dentist Or New Allergy?
kareng replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think you were glutened by the dentist. Itching and a rash are a common reaction to medications. Even if you have had them before, its possible to develope a sensitivity to them. I would call the dentist and tell him about the itching. See if he can change your antibiotic. Hopefully, you won't need the pain meds much longer. Just had... -
I think you are asking too much to expect people who don't understand Celiac disease to cook safely for you. They may pick out things that seem, and maybe even are, gluten free. but.... They have never had to think of things like " Don't strain the potatoes for potato salad in the old pasta colander". And " soy sauce or teriyaki have wheat in them.". They...

				ARCHIVED Traveling Gluten-Free
kareng replied to jorgensenjess's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are driving, so bring food for lunch, etc so you don't have to go to fast food. Lunch meat, cheese & yogurts ( unless he's still off dairy?), fruits, cucumbers, things he won't choke on. Or you can do grapes, but bring a sharp knife and cut them up small. Chex cereals, hot dogs, PB on crackers or small pieces of apple or just his fingers. Kids... -

ARCHIVED How To Start A Support Group?
kareng replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you have any Vegan/raw/vegetarian/Hippie type places? You could get with them to do a gluten-free meal. They could put it on thier Facebook, front door, etc. Putting your email on the frozen gluten-free pizza? Maybe not. One thing I found out was tell everyone you know. They start telling you about others that are gluten-free. I got a gluten... -

ARCHIVED Hot Sauce Or Taco Sauce
kareng replied to Salax's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you can have a little driedpepper, maybe a Jerk seasoning? A small amount of dried, powdered cayenne goes a long way. Ingredients 2 tablespoons dried minced onion 2 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme 2 teaspoons ground allspice 2 teaspoons ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons... -

ARCHIVED Hot Sauce Or Taco Sauce
kareng replied to Salax's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure, other than tomatoes, what would be night shades. Can you do something like this? Tomatoes are optional. Open Original Shared Link I have seen sauces made of mostly mushed up peppers with out tomatoes before, too. I just looked up nightshades. I guess you can't have peppers. Not sure what you could use for spicy. Cinnamon is spicy... -
When claiming that a regular loaf of bread costs $2 and the gluten-free one costs $7, you would need a receipt for the loaf you purchased and proof that a comprable loaf is only $2. I thik these sort of deductions will make you more likely to be audited, so this proof is important. I would imagine there could be an argument that store brand $2 bread is...

ARCHIVED I've Made A Huge Mistake
kareng replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And, of course your doctor and your pharmacist both told you how to take the prescription correctly! (said sarcastically) I always read the inserts with the prescriptions, at the least, because the people who are supposed to tell us how to take them, rarely do. -

ARCHIVED This Diagnosis Process Is Maddening!
kareng replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually, trying the gluten-free diet may give you an answer, combined with the other tests. If the joint pain goes away, if her tTG goes down in 6 months or a year, that would be one or 2 more things to give her an official diagnosis. It is very easy for small intestine biopsies to miss the damage. I think that was one of the things the doctor told... -

ARCHIVED This Diagnosis Process Is Maddening!
kareng replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Now, back to the original poster.... It sounds like you have a diagnosis or are about to have one. From what you are saying, he is taking in to consideration many factors, not just one, to diagnose the child. If you see good progress with the diet, you will know for certain. Ask him to put the diagnosis in writing for you incase you need it for schools... -

ARCHIVED Can My Child Carry Medication?
kareng replied to SilverSlipper's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
For some things like school, there are procedures for perscription meds. I know Boy Scout/ Cub Scout camps have rules. You have to give them to one leader with directions about them. For friends & relatives houses, if she knows how to take them & you can really trust that, I would send them with her. What I might do is take most of the pills... -
Do you really need syrup? Maybe just don't eat pancakes or waffles for a while? Or try honey, flavored yogurt, powdered sugar instead? My son likes powdered sugar on a waffle. Put it on a really hot waffle and it sort of melts.
