  1. Maybe you could explain that anyone, even evil gluten eaters, can eat Rice Works. The company encourages that.
  2. With Avon, I find that the people who sell it don't know the gluten status. I emailed Avon about the specific items I was looking at and they answered.
  3. Company policy may be nothing else in the fryers but in reality, they sometimes use them for something else. Appreicate her honesty.
  4. I've been doing this for a 7 months. It can take months for new habits to take effect, especially for the gluten eaters. I just told them if they screwed up and got the bread out & then used their hands to get the cheese slices, tell me. We mark them & I get a new package for me. I try not to be mad cause I want them to tell me if something might...

ARCHIVED I Got A New Doctor Today.

Oh well! So much for that doctor!
  6. Sounds like they didn't do the blood test 4 years ago. Your small intestine is like 22 feet long. Every inch is probably not damaged. They could have missed the damage. Hopefully, they will hit it now. Make sure they do more than 1 biopsy. I have heard that some doc's only take 1 sample. After your biopsy, go gluten free because you have the positive...
  7. Be careful. Starbucks had published something this summer to say that the light Fraps are not gluten-free. In the past, I have seen that some of the seasonal flavors like a pumpkin or gingerbread were not gluten-free. Would want to check the ingredients on the flavoring bottle if they have it.
  8. Yes. Oh! maybe I should add something. Because this is new to you and everyone else, there will be a learning curve. It will take the people who don't deal with it everyday, longer to "get" it. Bring your own dessert and keep some aside so its safe from crumbs. With my parents, they started asking stupid questions like "Can you eat...
  9. I know what you are talking about. I saw a show about China and they make and sell it on the street like a snack. So I looked it up. The rice is cooked under pressure and it pops. You can buy the "popping machines". It seemed like a lot of trouble. Rice Krispy type cereals aren't the same. Kashi made one I liked with honey on it but they are not gluten...
  10. We had a thread here about the topic of soggy pizza crust. One suggestion I remember & that I have used is to cook the crusts partly without toppings. My hub swears the crust will be less mushy if cooked on a pizza stone. Cooking partway then flipping the crust over might give you a dryer crust.
  11. On the weather tonight, they said tropical storm Hermine is coming. Instead of saying how much rain, the weather guy said " Build an ark". Will be adding sippy cups to the disaster box ( large plastic box with tight fitting lid stored under basement stairs) Anyone remember the movie " the Day After"? That was when a nuclear bomb flattened KC...
  12. I think this brings up a good point for your disaster survival kit. No glass. Unfortunately, gluten-free beer, wine & tequila always come in glass. So besides the plastic jugs of water, you will need cans of hard cider, boxed wine and canned beer so no one drinks your cider & wine. Tornado safety is almost the opposite of earthquake. Want to...
  13. If you must sit in the doorframe, you should have your favorite drink.
  14. At least I'm really trendy and stylish for once!
  15. I just went to a potluck tailgate. I knew they were bringing sandwiches and everyone else brings the rest. I brought my own sandwich. I made a hot spicy cheese dip to share. I put a little in a bowl just for me and some chips in a baggie just for me. I brought my own cookies. People take chips with the same hand they just held a sandwich so I'm afraid...
  16. Put the hospital name on here that way if someone is googling Hopsitals with guten free food they will find them. Also, do they take adults? Might be a bit far from KS for an emergency.
  17. My clothes washing machine was leaking water on the floor. Made an appt to get it fixed but they couldn't come until Wed. So I fixed it ! Not the boys, me! Saved about $200! Now what should I do with that $200?
  18. Hub & I had Pina Coladas, too. On the porch. In the dark. Listening to crickets & toads. Nothing pileated.
  19. I'm putting Cosmo on my grocery list right now. Must see this! Will not let Hib see this, as I don't want him to get any ideas!

    ARCHIVED Dim Sum

Could you go to the restaurant on a Sat afternoon when it's not busy? I am assuming this is a family run place. Around here, the teenagers of the owners work on weekends. I was thinking that they may speak better English and could help you get your questions answered.
  21. To confuse things more, many doctors call Celiac an allergy. Your sisters doc could have meant Celiac. My GI called it an allergy and I have seen several times on TV amd articles docs calling it an allergy. They may do that as its easier to understand.
  22. I did an endo & colonoscopy to make sure there wasn't anything else wrong. And to see how bad the damage is. Not sure this applies to kids. If your doc is willing to dx based on blood tests and response to diet, as some do, that should be good enough. With a kiddo, you may need an official dx to get schools to deal with it. You may need a dx to get...
  23. Are you taking B12? That helps the iron work better. Also, you should take the iron without eating 1 hour before & 2 hours after. Especially - coffee, dairy, grains. I have a B vitamin complex with vit C which also helps the iron. Just take them with lunch, not with iron.
  24. You can have dairy. It's just hard to digest so some people cut it out in the beginning. Some people always have problems with it. I never gave up dairy. It doesn't cause me any issues right now. Try just the gluten for a month and if you still have problems, you will have to see what other things you have trouble with. I know some will say that you...
