  1. I don't know how to explain the test differently. Yes, it's a newer test, it is not the same as regular anti-gliadin IgA, and it is far more specific for celiac. My understanding it that it is more specific, but not necessarily more sensitive. All the blood tests have the problem of essentially looking in the wrong place. The antibodies we really...
  2. People with fructose malabsorption generally do not tolerate probiotics because most have fructo-oligosaccharides to feed the bacteria. Are you SURE it's corn you want to give up and not fructose?
  3. I agree. I figure anything that can be scrubbed well is safe.
  4. I don't think there is any way to eat safely at a pot luck with non-celiacs. I attend and host pot lucks all the time. I bring a gluten-free main dish, something I'm perfectly happy eating for dinner. The only other things I will eat are obviously gluten-free foods like plain vegetables and fruit, and whatever my two other gluten-free friends bring. ...
  5. Food sensitivites can affect ADD, dyslexia, and mind function. So can thyroid illness. I was disorganized and pretty unmotivated before I got onto some cytomel recently, and my memory was horrible. Some people are sensitive to food chemicals like salicylates and that can cause big problems too.
  6. Anti-Deamidated Gliadin Peptide IgA. It tests for the presence of antibody to gliadin peptide (the problematic fragment of gluten) deamidated by tissue-transglutaminase. It's very specific for celiac. Normal intestines don't even make DGP, so non-celiac people don't have antibodies to it.
  7. Your browser is not displaying the rank images underneath the poster's "avatar", which are a series of little black dots or pips. You are seeing the alternative text, "Pip". This probably means your browser cannot display .png format. What browser are you using? A browser old enough to not display .png format is likely to have some fairly serious security...
  8. Take a deep breath. You sound really upset and I'm sorry you're going through this. I take it you ate some gluten again and it make you anxious and depressed? I know how awful it feels because it happens to me. You are correct that your test on Monday will not be accurate. You never mentioned that you hadn't been tested. We would probably have told...
  9. I went hunting to answer this question for myself. All I could come up with was urban myth. If anyone has a link or email from a tea maker sealing teabags with gluten paste, I would love to know as well.
  10. Yeah. I go with "allergic to wheat and grains". At this point I seem to be allergic to wheat as well as autoimmune so sadly I'm no longer fibbing.
  11. I hate that and I totally sympathize. I've ordered chicken salads, told the waiter to leave off croutons and asked if the chicken can be made unseasoned because I have a wheat allergy. Want to guess how many times I've been served breaded chicken strips? Or even better they bring plain chicken but put those little Chinese noodles in the salad. Or...
  12. I have a cousin who is really allergic to corn. She is super-careful and eats no corn starch, corn syrup, maltodextran, or anything else derived from corn.
  13. Thank you very much for sharing your story. I'm testing yeast at the moment, as I realized I've been reacting strongly to gluten-free beer and wine. Once I have a yes/no on yeast and some planned travel out of the way I might give the full-on diet a try.
  14. Nice video! I like the idea of a glass cutting board that's really easy to clean. That Bob's Red Mill bread mix is pretty good. I like it better than Pamela's. The dough will be softer than you're used to, so measure the liquids carefully and trust the directions. It works fine in my old bread machine. By the way, clean out your old bread machine...
  15. I just learned about this recently. Some people get an opiate-like effect from gluten. Open Original Shared Link You might be going through something like narcotic withdrawals. The shivers and fatigue certainly fit. I don't know how long it will last if that's what is happening to you. I didn't have to go through anything like that myself. There...
  16. In some people gluten and alpha-casein (cows milk casein) have narcotic-like effects. Every time you eat milk or gluten, you maintain the addiction and refesh the cravings. You are basically suffering from a mild narcotic addiction. The only way to do this is to stay strong until the cravings go away. Come here for support. You might also check for...
  17. Fructose could be causing the bloat and gas. You are eating enough fructose in the applesauce, sweet potatoes, and squash to give yourself trouble if fructose malabsorption is your issue. Try shifting to a low FODMAP diet. Eat lots of lettuces and cooked greens, and you can add things like eggs and whatever seeds and nuts you can tolerate to fill up. ...
  18. Have you been tested for celiac, lactose intolerance, or for candida in your stool?
  19. Since you weren't off gluten that long, I don't know that you would need to challenge for three months. I'm not sure why Ravenwoodglass said that but she'll likely stop by and tell you. My own doctor said if I wanted to be tested I had to eat gluten for a month a couple times a day. I decided I'd get to sick and declined the testing.
  20. Celiac can be silent. People with silent celiac don't have GI symptoms but they are are still at high risk for vitamin deficiencies and osteoporosis. All of your first-degree relatives should be screened, whether or not they have symptoms.
  21. I almost wish you hadn't fixed that link. That article is downright terrifying. If the genes get into pigs and goats they are getting into humans. I've already been buying more organic food. I'd love to know how many senators Monsanto has bribed to keep GMO food legal in the US. Maybe I'll write mine on the off chance it helps.
  22. I'll look forward to reading your post. At the moment, I am suspecting a yeast allergy so I'm going to try to track that down before I go to FAILSAFE.
  23. I'm conservative - scientists who have been around for a while tend to be. Dunno about yeast or MSG. I guess I'm thinking gluten as the underlying cause and things just aren't healing because OP isn't splinting and letting her wrists bend too much at night. There is also physical therapy for carpal tunnel, and I've had ibuprofen recommended as a temporary...
  24. My bag of Bob's oats says they are grown in dedicated fields and tested for gluten. I looked at the website and they're using the R5 elisa which is quite sensitive. R5 does NOT detect aveenin, so they are not testing their other flours for any sort of oat CC. I found a 2006 post on this forum that quoted the BRM website as saying they cut off at 20 ppm...
  25. Shroomie, that link is really weird. It takes me to some sort of login page and looks almost like a phishing attempt. Did you make a copy/paste mistake or could someone have hacked your account and put a weird link in the post???
