  1. This amuses me, after having lived in AL for two years: "A few states have a lower rate such as Alabama (1 in 303)" I'd be willing to bet it has much more to do with a lack of diagnosis, because of the lack of insurance, lack of medical attention, rampant poverty, (need I go on)? I don't buy that statistic.
  2. Just because no one in your family was diagnosed, doesn't mean that no one in your family has it. 1 in 133 Americans have Celiac and yet 97% of them are undiagnosed. Celiac symptoms range from debilitating to no overt symptoms (called silent Celiac). All first degree relatives of a dx'ed Celiac are recommended to have the full Celiac panel run. It "runs...
  3. Carrabas, Bonefish Grill, Pf Changs, Legal Seafood. There are many, many, many out there. There are many out there, but there is a difference between listing "allergens" (as many fast food restaurants do) and training the staff on safe preparation practices (like the above mentioned restaurants.) Eating out is inherently risky though because of cross...
  4. If she has been wheat free, and her tests are negative, it does not rule out Celiac. The blood panel tests for an antibody response to gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, barley, malt, and some oats. If she is not eating these products, the body will stop making antibodies to them. (think of it like testing a diabetic....if their blood sugar level is...
  5. I would have your child biopsied. This is the only time that your child has the opportunity to have it done, otherwise, they will have to go back to eating gluten to have it done. You have the opportunity to have a "gold standard" diagnosis and it does make life easier for many people. I do not have a positive biopsy and have encountered a lot of problems...
  6. Neither does it take into account your body chemistry, your health, absorption, organ functioning, etc. This might act as a guide, but without medical testing, I wouldn't put any weight into it.
  7. sclark, If it is potentially gluten related, two scenarios: 1. If she is getting a low but consistent amount of gluten, and you might not know that she is, it might be worth it to have the full Celiac blood panel run, just to make sure. If you haven't had her Celiac blood work run in awhile, it might be good just to ensure that she is doing well. 2....
  8. Add me to the list of increased sensitivity to minute amounts of gluten....
  9. I swear by bob's red mill.
  10. Call or go to your pharmacist, and ask for them to find out if it is gluten free. I have used both generic and name brand medications, and have never had a problem. Have them but on your file that you have Celiac/gluten allergy/etc so that they will check every medicine for you.
  11. Lynne, Happy Birthday, sweet lady.....you know we love you! We hope you are having a wonderful day! Love, Laura
  12. Jessica, I explain to them that I have food allergies, and I ask to see the label of the meat I am interested in. I then tell them that because of my food allergies, that I need the cutter wiped down thoroughly. I do NOT buy any products if they do not wipe it down AND I have checked the ingredients. End of story. Happy this thread is helping...
  13. Jessica: Dove will clearly list any gluten ingredient in their personal care products. Makes it easier for us. I have the meat counter thoroughly clean their cutter...it usually takes a good 5 minutes for them to REALLY clean it, but they now know me, and are great about it. (Just an FYI --- its Celiac Disease, with no "s". A group of...
  14. does she have butters, peanut butters, mayos, (condiments) that are safe from cross contamination? i.e., are bread eating people using it, double dipping, etc? if she is grilling, if gluten-filled foods have been used on her grill before, she could get contaminated from the grates.
  15. Lawry's is a Unilever brand. Unilever will clearly list any sources of gluten, and will not hide it in natural/artificial flavors, etc. Is this the product? Open Original Shared Link If so, the ingredients (based on the company statement on gluten), are safe. McCormick's is another company that will clearly list any sources of gluten, and will note...
  16. Patti, That is so wonderful. At the very least, its worth ruling things out. No need to suffer if there is help! Keep us updated! L
  17. There are some people who have reacted to it. Even though I am extremely sensitive (rarely eat out bc I get so sick), I have used Bob's Red Mill for the past year or so and absolutely love it. I use many of their products and have not reacted. I personally trust them.
  18. Did he run the full panel? What were your numbers for all five tests? What are the reference ranges? Even if it is negative, it wouldnt hurt to try the diet.
  19. Donna, I'm happy that the reaction stopped...I don't blame you at all for the rant! Rachel, although I don't take as much stuff as Carla, I take about 12-15 things a day. Some can't go with others, etc. Some go with food, etc. I had to draw up a schedule, too. Now, I have a routine, but I write down everyday in a spreadsheet what I did, took, etc. so...
  20. Until you have more of a context to put it in, all this means is that you are Vitamin D deficient. "Healthy" people can be deficient in certain vitamins. Or, people with multiple issues can be deficient. However, those with undx'ed Celiac have malabsorption, which can explain, for those people the vitamin deficiencies. We'll look forward to your results...
  21. Bev...no, not at all! It was said more "tongue in cheek" about the best care . You have enough on your plate, no worries!
  22. has your daughter had the Celiac panel re-run? I wouldnt' recommend taking further action until you have ruled out an active gluten problem. She might still not have healed, or is getting gluten....
  23. You can also have it done (along with other foods) through Quest (a large lab company) that your insurance would probably cover.
  24. kasia: your post did not disappear; you just did not have any responses yet on that thread. Please refrain from duplicate postings. At any time, you can click on your user name, and click on your threads or your posts to find things you have written. That is one way to find them. Usually the admin will delete the re-posting, but since your re-posting...
  25. however, a positive AGA IgG is indicative of a response to gluten. I'm not saying a Celiac response, but it might indicate a gluten intolerance. IgG food "allergy" testing (delayed food allergy=intolerance) is used for other foods besides gluten, as well. You need to have the FULL Celiac panel run while still eating gluten.
