  1. Thanks for posting this info, Carla. I have an app't in November with an integrative medicine specialist in NYC. I am having serious health problems. I am going to add this to my list of things to ask about. Appreciate the info

  3. Bumping this up....so who is going? I believe that I am going! I think Jillian (jkmunchkin) said she might go, also. Who else? I'd love to meet up with others. I'm also going to see Dr. Leo Galland in NYC while I'm there....he specializes in integrative medicine and leaky gut/food intolerances. Since I'm having so many food issues, I figured I'd...
  4. Jen, Thanks for posting that! Laura
  5. Stephanie, Welcome to the board! We have all had our different journies to get here...but we are happy you have found this resource and hope some of our information can help. The parent site to this forum, celiac.com, has some WONDERFUL abstracts of journal articles related to various disorders. Here is the one on infertility/pregnancy/miscarriage and...
  6. Carolyn, I am right in the mix with you. I'm sorry its tough. I think we will have both good and bad days...some strong days "I am woman, hear me roar"...and other days we will be mad and sad and frustrated. If you ever want to talk, please PM me. I'm reacting to various things..can't pinpoint them. Just sick all the time. And yet I am still mad I can...
  7. if you end up needing this, it was recently updated (taken from a member of the Delphi corn forum): http:// cornfree .blogspot .com/ (without the spaces, though!)
  8. Chrissy, I don't have the same symptoms that you do, but I cannot tolerate any corn whatsoever! Yes....you are making sense. It is confusing. If you are looking to see if it the problem, try taking corn out. However, to get it truly out, it is really difficult. It is the obvious--tortillas, chips, baking mixes, canned corn, etc...and the less obvious...
  9. Lynne, But you sure are busy sitting on that butt! xoxo, Laura
  10. Yay! That is great! I have read that the latest statistic is down to 4 years, but I am more likely to believe the 11 years...considering so many are not diagnosed and are silent Celiacs. Thanks for posting!
  11. Luckily, there are so many great alternatives and mainstream products that are gluten free, that although it will be tough, if you are mindful of keeping gluten-free treats on hand at all times, it will make your life, and theirs, a lot easier! Good luck--I know its not easy!
  12. Well, you have various approaches to this.... Does white wine bother you when you drink it? The reason that I am asking is that I have heard that there is a high percentage of false positives with allergy testing. That being said, if you don't react, it would be up to you as to how you want to deal with it. Was red wine tested? If you tested negative...
  13. Natlay, It kind of depends on what approach you want to take. Some can't handle corn in large amounts (corn syrup-like in soda, corn chips, tortillas, etc.) Others can not handle any amount...it is in things like flavors, toothpaste, medicines, IVs, drinks, canned veggies, iodized salt, etc. etc. It is in 500X more things than gluten, which is scary. ...
  14. hey- add me to the list of corn intolerant. a recent discovery but SUPER sensitive! I can't have corn in any single form (including meds, toothpaste, vitamins) I'm still learning....let me know if I can help at all though! Laura
  15. Carolyn, Wow...what a shock. I can't imagine what you are thinking! I am so sorry to hear about this. But, at least you know now...BUT, still!!!!!!!! How frustrating. I'm really sorry. I hope that now that it is out, it makes you feel better! And think, this will make you such a "better" Celiac. Take care, Laura
  16. I think it is the Progresso "Creamy Mushroom" but definitely check to be safe! I used to use it all the time for casseroles and such. I would heat it on the stove, and add gluten-free flour to thicken it til I got it "where I wanted it." Then used like regular! Hope this helps.
  17. I tell people it causes an auto-immune reaction that in turn damages my intestines and causes numerous long-term health problems, as well as "making me sick." I quickly move on and say, if I don't eat it, then I'm fine! And move on! Now my poor friends know the REAL story (those poor poor people)
  18. All soy sauce does NOT have wheat. However, most do. Certain types of la choy are safe, as well as one of the Kroger brands. San-J's version is great, also!
  19. mamato2boys, I'm sorry I can't help you with the exact answer. I had a different set of numbers and was confused as well. My best advice is to call enterolab and ask to speak to the nurse about interpreting your results. She will either speak to you then or call you back. She explained to me exactly what my gene tests meant. Hope this helps, Laura
  20. Congrats, Bev! That is quite the accomplishment. Make sure you celebrate (even if it is just a quiet moment at home with Hubby, still!) xoxo
  21. Amanda, I'm sorry to hear you are feeling ill! What a pain! Before I started having issues with other foods, I would notice I would get sick after eating at Wendy's, McD's, all those places (even with super safe foods). I finally just had to stop, and started making 99.9% of my food, and the reactions stopped. I'm one of the 'super sensitive' ones....
  22. Celiac experts recommend that all first degree relatives are tested.
  23. at various points, doctors have wanted me to eat gluten as well. (i have + bloodwork, but not a positive biopsy). I told them no. not an option. call me whatever you want. Celiac, gluten intolerant, gluten sensitive, gluten allergy, or crazy patient who thinks gluten is bad for her (which is what some of my docs think!)....doesn't matter to me. my symptoms...
  24. mamato2boys, ditto to the always sound advice offered by Carla, Patti, and Ursula. good for you for being a good mom! your children are lucky to have a mother who is willing to stick up for her children. unfortunately, your story is all too familiar. I have been told the same as you, as has my mom/sister. So it is most definitely not you. I learned...
