ARCHIVED Girlfriend Of Possible Celiac/gi
amybeth replied to I3Daniel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! This can be an undertaking! You've already received some great advice from previous posts ... Now I forget, did someone mention the toaster thing? Cross contamination from a previously gluten-filled toaster led to a lot of problems for me.... If you want your BF to have some quick, gluten-free, easy meals here are a few suggestions....Of course... -
I like Donovan. (Don, Donny, Van) I like Gunther, too. Because I teach, I like the idea of having a unique name --- but not a bizarre name. I like the "older" names that have fallen out of the "Top Ten" lists, but are still good solid names....like Timothy Thomas Neil My cousin is having a son, soon, and they are naming him Levi - cute...

It's kind of late information if you're headed to Philly on Sunday, but I ate at Sazon, tonight. It's on SpringGarden Street - kind of sketchy neighborhood, but cute BYOB resturant. We were there around 5pm, and had the place to ourselves. Helpful staff too! It's a Venezualan (sp?) restaurant they have empanadas and arepas which are made out of corn...

We just bought our first house (townhouse)...!!!!!!.fortunately, we made settlement in late February but do not have to move in until late March. We have already started painting and will soon tear up all of the carpets to replace w/ new. It's SO nice to be able to do all of this work without our furniture in the house! Our problem is lighting....

ARCHIVED How Strange My Life Has Become!
amybeth replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LMAO - This thread made my day! Before diagnosis, I thought I had become slightly obsessed with my "movements" because I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on! Always looking - evaluating - analyzing....Wouldn't have dared to mention it to anyone, though. Now, it's a common conversation in my life! Evaluating the quality of... -
Lister, How are you doing? Just checking in.
-
Hi! What a nice friend you are! If it's any help to your friend - McCormick spices are (all or mostly gluten free) Also some companies like Kraft will mark any/all gluten containing ingredients clearly on the label which is a time saver -- you don't have to call them and double check for "hidden" glutens. Also for the start - plainer foods...

Hi, Lister! Hopefully today is a little bit better for you than yesterday......my only advice was try to avoid looking up symptoms and self-diagnosing......a friend of mine had herself fully convinced once that she had a rare tropical disease.......because she found a list of symptoms on-line (she actually had the flu) when you're preparing for...

I enjoy PF Changs and always order "Changs Spicy Chicken" off the gluten-free Menu. The chocolate dome is definitely a sinful dessert that is gluten-free ---- The only recommendation I would make is a call ahead and make a reservation - if it's anything like the 2 locations I've visited they are ALWAYS packed. One alternative if you do not get a...

I eat yoplait all the time, but i believe they have a peach cobbler flavor and a key lime pie flavor that do contain gluten . From what I've seen, all the yoplait fruit flavors are gluten-free (french vanilla, orange cream, strawberry, raspberry, mixed berry, strawberry, strawberry banana, blueberry, white chocolate raspberry are all flavors that I eat...

ARCHIVED Moving.... Frustrations.
amybeth replied to Adelle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
laurie, you took the words right out of my mouth....or would it be fingers since I'm typing....there are organizations out there to help protect tenants. you may be able to get some of your rent $$ back, if not more.....also the local better business bureau or chamber of commerce may be able to help you make some headway if it's an apartment complex. actually... -
I've been brainstorming flexible job opportunities for you - that would allow you to work during the day and take advantage of that GED prep course (what a deal!) in the evening. In my small town our newspaper delivery people are primarily adults. I think they get reimbursed for mileage, etc. and get some decent $$. Construction, landscaping,...

Apparently this is old news, but I just found out. Mom's Bake at Home Pizza with locations in Newtown and NewHope PA offers a gluten free dairy free crust! (and has for about 4 mo.) I am trying it tonight. As a side note, Mom's in Newtown is the quaint little pizza shop where Mel Gibson eats lunch in the movie "Signs".....We live a few doors...

ARCHIVED Looks Like Pa Might Finally Get Snow!
amybeth replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Here in Bucks Cty, we only got an inch or two of snow, but lots of freezing rain all night - through at least 8AM this morning. School is closed, and this teacher is VERY happy to have a day to regroup! The students have been so anxious for a snow day - they've been bonkers for weeks!! It's not doing anything outside now, but it IS windy!!! We... -
Thanks for your advice! We ended up going to McCormick and Schmick's (sp?) M&S Grill. It's right along the Harbor. The managerial staff was awesome - spoke directly to the chef and TOTALLY made me feel 100% confident that I would be taken care of. Great meal --- shrimp cocktail, salad with balsamic dressing, and scallops in white wine butter sauce...

ARCHIVED Lays Stax
amybeth replied to Lizzz88's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've had problems with them in the past - but not every time. Just every so often. I think mainly when I ate a lot of them. I've stopped eating them, but I eat regular baked lays, and I've never had a problem with them. I'm sorry about your break up! Hope you're feeling better soon! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free 7th Graders 2day Trip To Boston. School May Not Let Me Chaperone!
amybeth replied to emtek5's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I teach 7th graders, and we had a student in the past with severe allergies. When fied trips came up, understandably her parents were concerned. We weren't going on an over night trip, and the number of chaperones alloted accounted for each of the teachers on the team. We didn't have open slots, even, to lottery out. However, mom asked us if she... -
Heading to Baltimore for Saturday night - last minute trip. Need a place to grab dinner that night - and a possibility for breakfast/lunch Sunday morning. I'll be staying across from Camden Yards - about 3 blocks from Inner Harbor. Last time I was there I went to the California Pizza Kitchen - where a hot fudge sundae was all they could feed me...

ARCHIVED Traveling With 16 Year Old Every Evening, Need Help With Packing Dinner!
amybeth replied to Ann1231's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tuna salad on rice cakes or corn thins Chicken salad on tostitos Chicken tenders -- I buy "Taste of Thai" Spicy Thai Peanut Bake. The flavors are great and they'd probably be good cold, too. Just coat the chicken in the mix, bake for 25 min. and done! Tasty and a little different than plain old chicken. On allrecipes.com there is a lemon butter... -
ARCHIVED Update/ To Brother In A Heap
amybeth replied to winki4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have been wondering how he is doing. This must be very difficult, frustrating, and heartbreaking for you. Our thoughts are with you and your family. -
Nate78 --- When I was diagnosed in my late 20's, I also tested all my vitamin levels, my thyroid, and my bone density. Turns out I was extremely deficient of nutrients my body needed b/c I had been sick so long! I needed weekly B12 shots at first - and still get them monthly now to maintain appropriate levels. I need a high amount of daily calcium...

ARCHIVED I'm New! Any Help Greatly Appreciated
amybeth replied to BadTummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It depends how confident you are that this is you....if you're pretty confident (over 50%), you should probably consult your dr. and at least have the bloodwork done. If you're still not that sure...you could keep a food log for a couple of days....My reaction to gluten is pretty immediate (usually within 20 min after the fact)...some people's symptoms... -
ARCHIVED How About A New Reality Show?
amybeth replied to lonewolf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
ROTFLMAO -- "I'd like to buy a bowel" --- OMG!!!!!!!! One of the challenges must include grocery shopping in a regulary grocery store and reading the labels - winner must be the fastest and have only gluten-free items in cart - 3 meals/day for a whole week. Want to make it harder ? Give them a budget! Everyone else will have points taken away... -
Gillian's French Rolls are good. I split them and toast them, but they are the only thing I've found that creates what I remember as a good sandwich. Corn thins are good - I like them better than ricecakes - with sandwich-y toppings on them.

Some of these are so outrageous! I cannot believe it! I don't know if I should laugh or be outraged.
