  1. When I first went gluten-free I was doing great. Then along came the holidays, major stress at work, my daughter was very ill.... and suddenly I was a WRECK. I wasn't eating anything, esp. at the holidays even though my parents take this very seriously, and I wouldn't eat much of what I made either. I wasn't sleeping at all. I decided that I couldn't...
  2. There is one nasty stomach bug running rampent in MIchigan... my daughter had it, and a lot of her friends have had it too. Hope she's feeling better soon!
  3. We use it to, it's great. Great waffles too!
  4. When I look at the cookies, cakes or whatever my mind practically sees a picture that shows the cookie = SICK SICK SICK. I don't have time to be sick, esp. for just a few seconds of that taste on my tongue. It's just not worth it! If I'm at work and someone brings me something, I bring it over to friends who know my situation and say "here, have one...
  5. I was reading my Living Without, and they make reference to a bakery w/ gluten-free treats called A Piece O'Cake in East Lansing. Anyone ever heard of it or been there? My brother lives there, I'm sure he accept a mission to go purchase some goodies!! Holy cow! I just went to their website Open Original Shared Link and for a mere $75 you can get...
  6. I just went to the movies last week and asked the manager, he looked at both the popcorn and "buttery topping", both were fine. I still ate too much though
  7. I made a roux (cook a coupel tblsp of butter w/ rice flour) and then put the Progresso cream of mushroom soup in to cook for a bit, it turned out pretty good.
  8. I have a cookbook called Cooking Free, it has 100's of recipies that are soy/corn/gluten/diary free! I'd recommend getting it (or see if your library has it). Open Original Shared Link .com/Cooking-Free-200Flav...TF8&s=books
  9. Hello and welcome! You've come to the right spot for answers. When i was DX, my dr. (while very kind) really didn't know much... everything i've learned has been from here. I agree to start with basic and simple meals. Check everything - shampoo, lotions, etc. Gluten can be very sneaky - it hides in "regular" soy sauce, licorice, make up. Read posts...
  10. I never had any morning sickness! Everyone is different, you may find it comes on later or maybe you're one of the lucky ones who won't have to experience it. The first thing I did when I got up was to have a glass of o.j. and graham crackers... obviously that was before gluten-free, but I found that frequent snacking was the way to feeling good. I carried...
  11. They've been playing the commercial a lot lately!! Here's the link to FoodNetwork, it's a good segment. Open Original Shared Link
  12. I usually put a little oil in the pan, add some chopped garlic and ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar and a dash of water. Tasty!
  13. After going gluten-free for several months, plus it was the Holiday season and some other things going on in my life I was one huge bundle of anxiety. I was miserable. I finally went to the dr. and he put me on Paxil. I knew within the first day or two that it was not the medicine for me. i had more anxiety, couldn't sleep, was jittery and terribly neausus...
  14. I ordred some from Knickinknick (sp).
  15. Some people do notice a difference right away. Personally, I was about 2 - 3 weeks into it when I realized I was singing on my way to work. I literally thought "oh, this is what it feels like to WANT to go to work, not dragging my half dead self in every day". but each day is still better and better for me. I would say it was a good 9 months or more...
  16. The Gluten Free Pantry mix is fabulous!! You just mix it up and roll it out.
  17. The Campbells brocolli and cheese soup DOES have gluten
  18. Progresso Chicken and Wild Rice (in the convenient microwave cup) is safe! I also eat Imagine and Pacific soups (they come in a carton). I hear Campbells cheesey broccoli is safe, but haven't tried one. I also get great soups from Trader Joes too.

    ARCHIVED Wonders Never Cease

Ian, I see a great dr. here in town. He told me almost the exact same thing as your dr. He told me it didn't matter what the paper said (my results were "normal") but if I felt better by not eating something, then by all means don't eat it! He also recommends many homeopathic treatments, but definitely will prescribe "western" medicine when needed. If...
  20. I've done ribs in the crockpot, yum! Chop a large onion into slices and layer on the bottom, put country ribs on top and dump in a whole bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce. I've also done whole chickens (even frozen) and some herbs with broth. When it's done (8 hours or so later) take out the chicken, thicken the sauce and you have gravy. I used to put...
  21. While I noticed an improvement after a month or so (no brain fog, actually had some energy) it was still almost a year before I regular/solid poops. I still have heartburn, but I figure that's just me. It's better then what it used to be. But if you're having joint issues, look into other intolerences too. Start keeping a food diary, nothing what/when...
  22. Cheetos puffy or crunchy. MnM's. Ice cream sundaes. Frito Lay Bean Dip and corn chips.
  23. Well said everyone! I see a homeopathic dr. who will prescribe me "western" medication when needed (antibiotics, etc.) but he will also suggest several homeopathic items for other things (like trouble sleeping). You do need the combination of both sides of medicine.
  24. It gets so much easier, it's worth it!! I started this in August 2005 and gave up dairy as well. I didn't cook much either, at the time. Now I cook all the time and look forward to planing what we're going to have. I always try to plan extra for leftovers. I cook simply - grilled steak, chicken, fish with baked potato and green veggie. I do buy some...
  25. Nuts - both roasted and some sweetened. Dried fruits. Popcorn. Banana w/ peanut butter, yum
