Terrible Neurological Symptoms

Good read, Jackie. Thanks. -
We also know that NSAIDs can cause villi blunting so that in combo with celiac disease might need to be looked at.

Not sure what's behind your question of why I am on warfarin when I have the heterozygous variant of Factor 5? The heterozygous variant still poses significant clotting risk but not as great as the homozygous variant. I have a paternal uncle with Factor 5 and he is on warfarin too. Aspirin works in a different way than does warfarin. Aspirin makes the...

The Cross-Contamination Myth-Buster!
trents commented on Dimitrios Douros's article in Autumn 2014 Issue
So by your own words I must conclude that you believe a non-white person could not have the same view point as the article's author . . . and that people's names always reveal their racial identity. What about the name George Washington? He was of white European descent and the first president of the United States. Yet, since then many Americans of African... -
Bloating and abdominal pain even when not eating gluten
trents replied to Stevo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, Stevo! I too have developed an intolerance to eggs. Bummer! They are so packed with nutrition and I love them. Have eaten them all my life up until a few years ago. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about 20 years ago. My only suggestion would be to start an elimination diet where you eat only one food item for a couple of days... -
Often times, especially with prescription generic meds and also with those that only give the active ingredient you will need to contact the manufacturer to get the answer about gluten you are looking for. Wheat starch can be used as a "filler", an inactive ingredient. The dispensing pharmacy can give you contact numbers for generics.

Where is the Abdominal Pain located?
trents replied to Ginger38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it varies from person to person but for me, when I get glutened, the pain seems to be all over my abdomen. It's not in one spot. And I get violently ill with hours of throwing up, intensely painful gut spasms followed by a few hours of diarrhea. But I cannot pinpoint the discomfort. -
I'm fortunate in that I have the heterozygous variant. But of course, I still have to be on warfarin for life.

One gene or both?

Welcome to the forum, Charlia! We see this often on the forum. I would strongly suggest you don't wait for her villi to rebound before putting her on some high end vitamins. It can take up to two years for the villi to completely heal after going gluten free. Put her on an adult multi (like Centrum) and a B-complex. In addition to that I would also...

MTHFR is a new one to me. I just looked it up. How does it affect you. Does it cause gait problems for you? Yes, we seem to accumulate medical abbreviations as we progress through life and I'm not talking about MD. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about 20 years ago and about ten years ago I was diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder called Factor...

Terrible Neurological Symptoms
trents replied to HectorConvector's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Makes me start to wonder when we see all these different food intolerance issues crop up in those with gluten sensitivity if gluten is really the hub or one of the spokes of the wheel in some yet unknown and bigger driver. -

Good information, Scott. Thank you. -
I don't know about eggs but we do know from research that dairy reactions blunt the villi like gluten reactions do. So, my theory is that anything that makes the gut unhappy like gluten does is probably creating inflammation in the small bowel. Personally, I have also developed an intolerance to egg. Whenever I consume more than about one egg at a time or...

Welcome to he forum, Vinnys! Different laboratories use different ranges to designate negative vs. positive so knowing the range values used by the particular laboratory your blood samples are being sent to is the key here. It seems you are now registering in the slightly positive range. I would not call this normal since it is a positive test value...

Your Benadryl experience prompted me to check my own bottle. I use Kirkland (Costco) brand made by a company name LNK International, Inc. Pink tabs as well. Anyway, I called them and there is no wheat or gluten in the Kirkland version. They use corn starch for a filler. Also, it is common for celiacs to develop other food intolerances. Dairy, oats (even...

Terrible Neurological Symptoms
trents replied to HectorConvector's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"Autoimmune reaction: Autoimmune reaction to gluten proteins is found in celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, wheat allergy, gluten ataxia, and dermatitis herpetiformis." I found this statement from the article you pasted, Jackie to answer one question I have had about NCGS. Now I know it, like celiac disease, is an autoimmune condition. But... -
Don't assume anything doesn't have gluten, except tap water maybe. Were you taking the benedryl tabs or liquid?

There is a real learning curve when it comes to actually eating gluten free as opposed to just cutting out "most" gluten in the diet. There is the whole issue of cross contamination. Pills and supplements and oral hygiene products can be sources of "glutening". If you are still eating out then studies show that is the biggest risk for cross contamination...

In adults, full healing of the villi can often take around two years. But there should be significant healing withing weeks or months that should result in your quite a bit better. You may have other food intolerances besides celiac disease. Have you been tested for SIBO or even fructose intolerance? Many fruits are high in fructose.

Welcome to the forum, Ziata! May we ask your approximate age? Do you have other health issues such as circulation or neurological problems? As far as the reaction to the cottage cheese, it is not uncommon for celiacs to develop an intolerance to dairy. The protein in dairy, casein, is similar enough to gluten to cause a cross reaction in some people...

glutening Celiac and Mental Illness
trents replied to Squiishtopher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've said this before but I'll say it again. There's this philosophy out there that every change humans make to nature is necessarily bad. And granted, there are plenty of examples of that being the case. But IMO, nature doesn't always get it right either. And there are many examples where human engineering has improved upon nature and corrected problems...- 17 replies
