  1. Good! You got the fast track it seems. Let us know how it turns out.
  2. Keep us posted, Clara.
  3. Okay, then I suggest you ask your doctor to order blood antibody tests for Celiac Disease.
  4. Here's a book that might help: https://www.everydayhealth.com/columns/bonnie-taub-dix-nutrition-intuition/of-you-go-gluten-free-watch-where-youre-going/
  5. As far as eating out goes, avoid it as much as possible. But when you do, ask the waitress or the chef what you can eat that is gluten free if they don't have a gluten free section in their menu. And then pray that they know what that means. Ask them to prepare simple, plain foods for you like a baked potato or an egg or steamed broccoli and also ask that...
  6. Do meat or vegetables contain wheat, barley, rye or oats? Wheat, barley, rye and oats are grains. Meat is meat and vegetables are vegetables. Just fix them plain and don't bread them with one of the gluten containing grains. You also will need to get into the habit of reading labels on packages to see if one of those gluten containing grains is included in...
  7. I think you are not understanding the difference between and allergic reaction to gluten and an autoimmune reaction to gluten. The symptoms you describe sound more like Celiac Disease than they do an allergy. If you have not heard of Celiac Disease, what led you to this website whose name is Celiac.com?
  8. In my opinion, you need to go to a general practitioner and get tested for Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease is not an allergy but an autoimmune disorder that is triggered by the ingestion of gluten. Celiac Disease can do serious damage to your health if kept in check by gluten free eating. What symptoms are you experiencing?
  9. What kind of a doctor was this? General Practitioner? Naturopath? GI doc? Allergist? What led you to go to this doctor for testing? What symptoms were you experiencing? It sounds like you are being treated as if the gluten problem were an allergy. Have you heard of Celiac Disease?
  10. Some restaurant chains will have a gluten free section in the menu. Applebees does and I'm sure there are others. Many eatery chains will post a list of their food offerings and the common allergy ingredients they contain. Usually, you can look this up ahead of time on the internet. Clara, are you savvy at googling things on the Internet? ...
  11. Clara, welcome to the forum. Let me ask you some basic questions? What is your current understanding of what gluten is and where it is found.
  12. I can relate to this issue big time right now. For about a week now I have had stiff neck and major neck pain. Just woke up one morning and the neck was stiff and sore on one side. Within a couple of days it spread to the other side. It is somewhat better but I still can't turn my head more than a few degrees. I've had this issue before but not nearly so...
  13. The way those results are laid out is confusing.
  14. Yes, it could be something else. We know that certain medications such as anti inflammatories, PPIs and some blood pressure drugs damage the small bowel villi like celiac disease does.
  15. I would not start eating gluten-free yet as your doctor may order an endoscopy/biopsy. Going gluten free before that may invalidate the results.
  16. Can't find a date on this but from what I have read in other places as well there is a growing consensus that there is a connection between celiac disease and depression. There is a lot of info about this out there so I would suggest researching your question. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-disease/related-conditions/depression/ The connection may...
  17. What do you mean when you say, "I have been looking into why the numbers are so high with no results." Are you saying you have no symptoms or are you saying your research has not turned up anything? An endoscopy and biopsy of the small bowel would seem to be the next step as it is considered to be definitive for diagnosing Celiac Disease.
  18. "The finding of tissue transglutaminase (tTG)-IgA antibodies is specific for celiac disease and possibly for dermatitis herpetiformis. For individuals with moderately to strongly positive results, a diagnosis of celiac disease is likely and the patient should undergo biopsy to confirm the diagnosis." https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and...
  19. Toaster bags? Never heard of that until now. But I looked it up and there is indeed such a thing! Somebody was really thinking there in order to come up with that invention.
  20. Welcome to the forum, christen1122! Many of the symptoms you describe are classic Celiac Disease symptoms. celiac disease not only causes direct GI distress but also creates vitamin and mineral deficiencies which in turn often result in bone demineralization and neurological problems. Something called "leaky gut" is part and parcel of celiac disease...
  21. Welcome to the forum, Dee21! First, it was not a good idea to go gluten free before being tested. That can invalidate the test but usually in the direction of a false negative. Second, it is curious that your doctor ordered a test for Celiac Disease and then when the results indicate you do indeed have it to call it a false positive. Did you ask...
  22. Is the toaster the old fashion popup kind or a toaster oven? Sounds like that is the main source of cross contamination worry. In this situation, a toaster oven would be a better way to go and either getting into the habit of washing the rack before you use it or getting your own rack and swapping it in for the other one whenever you need to use the toaster...
  23. Why not just get your PCP to order the tests?
  24. Certainly could be Celiac Disease or maybe gluten intolerance/sensitivity. But there very well may be other medical problems as well. Ask your doctor to test you for Celiac Disease. There are antibody blood tests for this that fall a little short of 100% definitive but it's the place to start. If the blood tests are positive for celiac disease then the next...
  25. I'm not sure that going back on gluten for only a month would be long enough to give valid test results. Seems like people on the forum are advocating about 3 months.
