  1. Hello, I have called the hall directly. It has never been an issue. The host is not charged for any type of "special" meal. They do not have any additional concerns or stress for their special day. Do this in advance (when the invitation has arrived and before you RSVP) Call again the day of the event to remind the staff and get your contact name for...
  2. Great job! It is important to let people know how very small amounts can be harmfull. People push food on kids too much. You pointed out the facts, behaviour of adults can hurt Celiac children.
  3. Your doctor is wrong. There are "silent Celiacs" who are not suffering from severe G.I. symptoms. They usually are diagnosed because of anemia, not G.I. symptoms. They do have damage to the villi visible during an endoscopy with biopsy.
  4. When we were just one the gluten free diet ~ it wasn't so expensive. Now that we are avoiding the full top eight and peas and chick peas ~ YIKES! It's nightmare expensive. How ironic ~ is food with less ingredients can cost that much more!!?
  5. Our family's experience with elimination diet.. Eliminate all top eight (fish, shellfish, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and eggs) and peas along with the gluten free diet (we exclude gluten free oats too). Keep a food journal. Two weeks after the elimination, add one of the suspect foods in for a week or two weeks for the test trial. Try to add in the...

    ARCHIVED Pregnant

My heart goes out to you. ((HUGS)) for you two. (and any one going through this.) My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  7. Call the doctor. I would have it looked at, not just an over the phone opinion.
  8. My daughter has been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Guess what? Those "tonsil stones are my window to the damage in her esophagas. EE has "trigger foods" like gluten.
  9. My daughter was reacting as an infant. I was undiagnosed at the time and consuming gluten. She was getting gluten and my antibodies via the breastmilk. Try the Gluten-free Casein-free diet. I don't think doctors will do any testing, except for the genetic test at this point and the elimination diet. There are other possibilities for the symptoms you...
  10. The blood test to screen for celiac disease is not as reliable in patients under 24 months. An endoscopy with biopsy can diagnose or exclude a number of disorders, not just celiac disease. Celiac can have many vague symptoms.
  11. Gluten king, Allergy doctors can't explain any of this either. My daughter was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis along with Celiac. Two seperate issues, no connection has been proven yet. Eosinophils are white blood cells associated with the body's allergic response. In her case we are trying to pin point food triggers for this response in her...
  12. My daughter was finally diagnosed with "probable" Celiac disease at 17 months. It was a major relief to start the gluten free diet and stop the constant "D" and vomitting. Raising Celiac Kids by Danna Korn is very helpful. It explains the testing. Helpful tips like have your special gluten free snacks and treats with you at all times. Kids are offered...
  13. My son has horrible constipation. Some statistics say 30% off Celiacs present with constipation, not "D".
  14. I do know villi blunting was caused from an ADHD drug. The child was diagnosed as Celiac, and then it was determined the medication caused the blunting. Celiac is different from an allergy because it is an auto-immune disease. According to my daughter's specialist, allergies can be outgrown in children.
  15. We have all heard some nonsense at some point. Some one tried telling me that Girl Scout cookies should be OK because they saw some one with "those food allergies" eating them. I should be getting an Oscar nomination for keeping a staight face during that!
  16. I think they are product testing the gluten free community. 1. You had to ask for the orange cake in most store because it was not even in the food case. It was always pulled from someplace that was out of my view. 2. It is just a rumor and there is a petition. We need everyone to sign that petition to show what a LARGE, and IMPORTANT group we are becoming...

    ARCHIVED Wendy's?

south west taco salad is my fav. I get two meals out of it.
  18. Lynne is right. Long term studies of bullies have proven that the bully has very low self esteem. Is most likely to end up alone after failing every relationship. More likely to end up in jail, more suicidal. In short the bully is the one who needs serious help.
  19. I tried making it up twice with egg replacers. It turned out really gummy inside and was gross. I tried the Energie brand egg replacer and applesauce. Does anyone else have any ideas what is the best egg substitute?
  20. In certain individuals, gluten and casein can have an opiate affect on the brain. You are going through withdrawal. Doctors admit that "IBS" symptoms can improve on a gluten free diet. It might be a good thing not to be labeled Celiac. You won't get stuck with a pre-existing condition clause, higher life/health insurance premiums. Keep a food journal...
  21. Kids really don't eat at birthday parties. They might eat some cake and ice cream. I have made chicken or beef kabobs (marinate in gluten free italian dressing), side dish of rice. Mexican taco bar. You can use fruit kabobs to make a "flower" arrangement. If you're nervous about the gluten free cake, just do a ice cream sundae bar. Tinkyada Penne...
  22. I have been trying to find true information on this too. Reports covering this topic are conflicting. This is just my opinion, from reading the articles. An underlying disorder is blamed in the case of death. celiac disease has trigger that can be avoided. If you are strictly gluten free at some point of time even your risks for Celiac related cancers...
  23. If I have been glutened, it is impossible to sleep from the pain. I will have to run to the bathroom at some point too.
  24. I suggest that all newly diagnosed Celiacs keep a food journal. It helps find hidden gluten in your diet. It can help find other food sensitivities, that aren't detected through allergy testing. It seems that Celiacs are more sensitive to other ingredients too.
  25. I checked into some sites for EE and they want you to pay. Not easy for us right now since we have had to pay for emergency hospitalizations and then for the testing and diagnoses. We are so very lucky to have the gluten free forum FOR FREE. Even the site for children's allergy network wants $ up front. We have members here with Celiac and EE, and...
