  1. Most of the people I've met here are great, and if it's because of a gene -I wouldn't trade that gene for anything else in the world. Holy crap, I feel like hugging a tree! Who else is going to stock up on a LOT of gluten free alcohol for the holidays? Don't worry they have to knife out of your back at least long enough to carve the turkey....
  2. Glad you popped in to say hi! Have a Happy Thanksgiving! L.
  3. I thought this would be the perfect oppurtunity to tell all of you - with the Celiac gene, it has been renamed as "my" gene. (According to my mother-in-law) It is not the "Celiac gene" it is Laura's side of the family gene. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest! Family can be the best or worst part of Celiac. L.
  4. Chebe bread mixes are gluten free and yeast free. The ingredients are Manioc (tapioca) flour, modified amanioc starch, dry milk, iodine-free salt. (Made in a gluten free facility.) You add 2 tbs. oil, 2 eggs or egg substitute, and can add 1 cup of cheese and 1/3 C of water. L.
  5. So what do you do when they say, "Sal?, Sal who? I don't think I've ever met a Sal Minila." L.
  6. OK that makes more sense to me now. You are going to limit how much gluten is being introduced into the diet, right from the start. At the time of my oldest child, the experts said "absolutely no rice cereal in a bottle EVER!" What were the mothers doing? Putting a scoop of rice cereal in the "bedtime bottle" What did the formula companies start...
  7. The tests aren't very accurate for a patient under 24 months old. If your son was tested at such a young age, I would have to say his reaction from the gluten free diet is the conformation for the gluten intlorence. A gluten challenge can be dangerous. My daughter ended being hospitalized after two weeks on the gluten challenge. L.
  8. The House episode was on yesterday. L.
  9. Ingredient label seemed fine (thought I saved it but husband must have thrown it away) I haven't reacted to it at all. I only have it about twice a year, if that. L.
  10. The guidelines for introducing solids varies from year to year. My kids were 3 years apart and the advice was very different. I've looked at a few different articles on breastfeeding and Celiac. Breastfeeding is supposed to strengthen the gut. There appears to be a window of time to introduce gluten, between 5 to 7 months. Read information, talk to your...
  11. I do like to share gluten free food and treats. Most of the time I don't tell. Sometimes it's nice to to get the word gluten free out there. Sometimes it gives me the oppurtunity to help some newly diagnosed family find great tasting gluten free food. L.
  12. I won't make anything with gluten in my kitchen!!! I have my self and two kids to keep healthy by keeping gluten out of there. Tell the person who took it upon herself to write your name in for pasta salad, how wrong that is and why. If you spend five times the amount of money to make it gluten free and people don't eat it, or if you contaminate your personal...
  13. I have the "calcification" deposits on the frontal lobe. It was after I had meningitis that it was found. You explained and described Celiac Disease perfectly. If you do get the time send your description to the nearest support group, and Nini's newbie starter kit. If we are trying to get the word out about celiac disease we had better get the whole...
  14. If you feel unwell after eating them, and you have confirmation that there is an amount of gluten, don't eat them. Your body is identifying gluten and having a reaction even if the company says it is .003%. That is the very scary thing about the codex system and gluten free label laws. L. Double check the rest of the ingredients for a sensitivity to another...
  15. I was that hungry when I was pregnant. Set aside good healthy snacks and have them ready for the hunger pains. You may actually be thirsty, so you might start drinking a caffeine free herbal tea. L.
  16. Who cleans their coffee grinders? Obviously Martha Stewart and Martha wannabes do. This must be stopped! Women are starting to run amok trying to turn themselves into perfect hostesses. What th *&! L.
  17. Well if anyone is interested in trying to make a difference in some of the public school childrens lives, Open Original Shared Link is trying to get legislation passed in all states for a bully law. L.
  18. I am so glad someone else has now seen the cross contamintion coffee grinder cleaning advice. L.
  19. If your intestines are damaged, you are more likely to have a hard time eating food. My son would vomit carrots cooked or not every time. Two years gluten free and he can eat them no problems. I would double check all personal products especially toothpaste and lipgloss. L.
  20. I just read an article about Amici's adding a gluten free pizza to their menu. Amici's and the Living Room are located at 3249 W. 12 Mile in Berkley. The Natural Food Patch at 221 W. Nine mile road in Ferndale have added more gluten free items for sale. Chef Andrew was interviewed about Bel Cibo in the article. He listed how far some people have traveled...
  21. My daughter would vomit and have "D". I also noticed how her belly would bloat, which was blown off by every ped. The worst thing is the tests are not that accurate in a child under 24 months.
  22. I like having snow days. To drop everything and go play in the snow. Sneak off to bed early and cuddle. Just as long as the pantry is stocked with the stuff you need. (you know like hot chocolate, soup and Altoids) L.
  23. Some previous posters mentioned socialization and were negative towards home schooling. I am very happy for anyone who has had a positive education experince for their children. Unfortunately many people are not having good experiences with the public school system. (Susan descibed exactly what I did see at the local public school. I was even afraid of...
  24. The way I understand it... For a Celiac diagnoses you would have positive results on a blood test, then have an endoscopy with biopsy showing flattened or damaged villi, and positive on the biopsy. That is the "gold" standard for diagnoses. If a person is having constant "D", having an adverse reaction to a medication, or other things I just can't think...
