Hi Celia--

I got your sweet PM! I saw about the new storm headed your way on the news tonight. All I could think of was--oh no, not again! I pray that it fizzles out. Gosh, you all haven't even completely come back from the last one. :(

I was going to send a PM tomorrow--we had people over tonight and I snuck onto the board for a few minutes while they were down in the basement with my husband and son. They were friends of theirs who are in the same car club--so I wasn't missed too much :D

I haven't posted as much as usual the last few days, although I've been reading and keeping up with all of you. Just in a quiet mood, I guess--I know, odd for me

Have a good rest-of-the-evening!

Mango!!! I can see you again... :D How are you doing?? Don't worry about reading all the pages, let us know how you are making out!!!

LOL Hi! You caught me lurking. I'm good!...still seeking out the koalas and...the men ;) hehe.

Gluten-free bread in Australia is AMAZING. Food is now the least of my worries. I am feeling a bit spinached over trying to find a job, but...oh well, I'm having fun. I still don't know exactly what spinached means, by the way, but I thought it'd be fun to try to use it in a sentence.

I think I read earlier about some Rachelville people not feeling well :(.....and are there more storms? Sorry I'm not very caught up, but I hope everyone's doing okay.

Hi Mango!!! Great to hear from you. I'm glad that you're enjoying yourself--I know you'll find something soon! Keep in touch :)

Hi all in Rachelville -- I'm still here in Brideville and probably will be until after Saturday. I miss you guys terribly . . . . I feel like my entire support has deflated since not being able to be "in the trenches" so to speak, with you. Got good news . . . Ash DOES want me to give her away at the alter!!! I am so excited about that . . . long, long story. Karen can fill you in . . . she's gotten the story when I was calm and when the only words she could hear were the ones that were in between the sobs!!

Going to have to get off the forum now . . . have to go to the orthopedic guy at 8:30 . . . . my tibia may actually BE cracked . . . . and I have ankles the size of an elephant's!! Good thing I go to the PT tomorrow . . . hoping the compression garments are in so they'll STAY down after treatment and for the wedding! Found a great pair of shoes . . . don't want to have "cankles" wearing them! Going to try to walk down the aisle in them . .. . have been practicing as much as I can. That's going to be an interesting time!!!

Please keep your fingers crossed that I'm not in a full-leg cast for the wedding . . . that would really bite. I already have (still) the huge bruises on my arm -- the little girl Ashley nannies for said, "Ashley -- your mommy has a tattoo on her ARM!!!" Ash had to tell her that, no, it was a big bruise!!! How embarrassing . . . she said it in front of the catering manager for the wedding! Ugh.

Toodles . . . . and hugs to you all!

Canadian Karen also posted a link the other day to resize photos that was quite good - - wish I had added it to favorites as it is SO many pages back, and you know how we feel about GOING BACK.................. :o:o:o

momma goose - - got it now - - -whew!

SUSAN, you are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

That link is www.picresize.com.

Well, if you get it, would you please enlighten me? I hate feeling so dense.

You all will notice that I'm posting before the crack of dawn here in Jawja. I took a nap yesterday about 2:30 PM, but it turned into the longest nap in the history of R'ville. I woke up at 3:30 this morning!:lol::lol:

CECILE, the weather channel shows Chris weakening. Praying that it fizzles out!!! Are you anywhere near Tampa? My son and DIL live in Clearwater.

Experiment: I'm going to try to post a picture on avatar, so wish me luck. If I can't get it reduced, I'll email it to you, and try it that way.

Love and hugs to all!

I'm a little concerned about Chris - it's looks as if it might travel across the state - Francis, the 4 day long hurricane took a somewhat of a similar path. Francis was one of the most powerful hurricanes I have experienced.

When these storms put us in their path - there is panic - everything is closed, the streets become empty and there is not a drop of gas to be found.

:o I hope you and yours are ok Cecile. Can you give us another update when you come online?

My friend her hubby and kids are flying out to Stanford on Saturday-they will be staying in Kissimmee, near to all the parks and Disney. They've saved for sooo long for the 'trip of a lifetime'

My OCD came in handy so we were very prepared

:lol: You do make me laugh (in an affectionate way-I'm not ridiculing you :) )Glad to know your OCD came in use in a crisis!

How are all the collective 'spinached ones'?

I include my poor dear hubby in that category-who is currently snoozing on the settee, the stomach/back pains are still lingering :(

Susan,I love your new photo with the girls-

You look like a pretty/tanned/sexy minx dahling!(not bad for a girl with a peg leg)

Lynne-hope you get to enjoy your daughters wedding after all the stress of making arrangements :)

Andrea-hope the homeschooling gets off to a good start :)

Patti-where have you been? I've missed your posts! :)

Rachel-hope you're not laying in a spinached mess

Mango/Meredith-great news that eating G.F is easy in Oz.Where abouts are you?.Makes me more determined to save up and get out there to visit family in Brisbane. :)

Apologies to all those Rachelvillians I missed !

I am from New York- and still here and lately I've been wondering if living here- with all the smog and craziness is not hindering my healing process. I told you I was just in Miami for a few days and I could just feel the fresh air had a positive affect on me. I can't imagine leaving New York - but I also feel like I need ot do whatever I can to heal myself- it is such a struggle. New York is such a huge part of who I am.

Miamia

That's funny, I always feel better in New York :) For some reason I can really breathe there, probably because of the lack of trees and such

There's no other new york out there...

Good luck in Bridalworld! You need to give us all a lengthy report on Sunday!!!

Rachelvillians: I have made a huge decision...

I'M GOING TO CULINARY SCHOOL :lol::huh::ph34r:

The other (larger) culinary school in town called me and said they *might* be able to accommodate me, so I went last night to tour the place. I'm pretty much screwed for the baking section, but I'll wear a mask. In that class they can't accommodate me because they would have to change the entire curriculum. The baking section is only 6 weeks long. Basically, everyone else would taste for me, that's what they do for the vegetarians. This is a really good school, too. Two of their graduates this year work for the food network, one for Paula Deen and the other in their prep kitchens. Another works for Bobby Flay's Mesa grill in NY. I'm shooting for January as a start date, they have start dates every six weeks anyway. I have to figure out three things first though:

1: Get as many scholarships as I can, I already have enough student loans without adding another 45 grand to it.

2: Work with their disabilities office for accomodations and convince them that accomodating gluten-free'ers is a good business decision

3: Transfer in my college credits for the core classes, which would take some pressure off of the schedule.

I'm looking at 18 hour days monday through friday for a year, since I have my day job, then school would be 5:30-10:30 and an hour of homework. But if I'm going to do it, I gotta do it soon, before we move God knows where and we start having kids. Adam is supportive but sad, since we'll have virtually no time together. Illness be damned, I'm doing this!!!!!

Camille'sBigSister Newbie

CHELSEA, that is FANTASTIC!!! You go, girl!!! :D:D:D

MOMMA, okay, I get it now. Thanks.

Wow Chelsea. That sounds great but tiring. How long is the full schooling and are there breaks in between? You will have to make sure to nuture the marriage every chance you get, like weekends. Your time will basically be your jobs, school and hubby's aside from much needed sleep. Obviously it can be done, but I'd never be able to subsist on so little sleep for so long. My hubby only get about 5-6 sleep a night. Once in a blue moon he'll get 7. He's up anywhere from 3-5 am during the week.

Nikki, was that you who posted about Chris seeming to slow down a litttle, I hope so. Hope your friends have a good trip. My grandma used to live in Tampa so I was down there 3 times. If they are looking for a water park they need to check out Adventure Island....it's the best (at least it was 20 odd years ago). :P Also, of course Busch Gardens and Walt Disney World. There was some great mini golf course that I was taken too down there. Don't know where it was but it was fantastic. It had a little train track all around the place. It may not even be there anymore. I think the epcot center was being built last time I was down there.....1982 I think.

Lynne,

I hope the wedding turns out to be everything you daughter has hoped for. Such a special day!

Camille,

I'm glad you got a chance to get rested up. Now full steam ahead and hopefully no more getting sick.

Meredith,

Hello and glad you are having a good time down under. Thank you for checking in. :D

Schooling goes for 12 months, no breaks. Hopefully all of my core classes are covered by my university degree (for heaven's sake, they should be!) and that would give me breaks in the evenings every other six weeks. It would be rough, but I've had that kind of schedule before, when I was in undergrad. I'd work from 5:30-10:30, go to class until 2:30, work from 2:30 to 6, go home, eat, and work again. I nearly killed me, to be honest, but if I'm going to do it now's the time.

It's times like these I really wish I wasn't married, just so I could kill myself working without having to worry about anyone else. It's only a year, and yes, nurturing the marriage would be on the weekends, and maybe we'd make it a point to eat breakfast together in the morning. Don't know the logistics yet. I bet I'd lose a lot of weight just from not having time to eat

Chelsea - - EXCELLENT news! Your schedule exhausts me just reading it - - can you cut out just a few hours of work, maybe leave an hour earlier each day, something like that? (probably a hideous suggestion, just curious).

Cecile - - hurricane watch - - tell us the latest. am thinking of you every time I watch the news and see storms.

Everybody else - - hope you're feeling well and will write a bit today. things are so calm in R-ville.

I got nuttin else. Nuttin. So much to do today....OMG I have to shampoo the carpets any day now, most egregious of tasks.....and so pointless as the dang dogs just get them dirty again.....Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Cats are SO much easier.....Also have to get tons of mulch for the garden beds....perhaps this will help keep carpets clean, since dirt is tracked in from their nightly frog-stomps......

Hi everyone, sorry for not being around. Work schedule, the little one, etc.

Ok, I so went to the doc today. I am sort of distressed right now. :( He has no clue what is going on with me. Bloodwork came back normal, second biopsy shows atrophy of the villi, but the stain for lyphicites (ms?) was negative compared to the first biopsy, no atrophy but the stain was positive.

He wants me to stay on the normal diet, in spite of contant bloating, pressure around the upper abdomial area (very painful at times) and loose stool. He is sending me for a hydrogen breath teat for bacterial overgrowth. And some sort of breath anaylsis for lactose intolerance. - but would either really cause the villi to flatten.

I admit I am impatient and want to know sooner rather than later. But damn! let's get the show on the road.

Sorry, I just need to get that off my chest.

Chelsea -- Congrats on the schooling. That is awesome news.

Picard -- Long time no hear. Sorry to hear about the visit to the doctors. Sometimes they can be more of a hinderance than anything.

Patti -- Hope your spirits lift.

All -- Hope your evenings go well. I am off to spend some time with DW and the kids as Bobbi has to work all weekend, and we are celebrating 3 and a half years together. (A big thing for us for some reason).

Talk to you all in the morning.

Should someone call Rachel to see if she's okay?

Cecile, since you are the Rachelville sleuth I nominate you. :)

Picard, I had the symptoms you describe and I'm sorry you are feeling so bad.

Chelsea, great news about the cooking school. The only question I have is whether or not it is possible for you to skip the baking part altogether? I wonder if they would let you apprentice in a gluten free bakery. I bring it up because I started getting migraines when I worked in a bakery at the age of 23. I know you will be wearing a mask but I wonder if you will ever even bake with regular flour. Sorry, don't want to be a downer, I think it is wonderful that you will have the opportunity to study cooking.

Hi everybody! :D So much happening to my friends here in Rachelville!

Chelsea, I'm so excited for you :) I know that this is your heart's desire, just as I know that you will be a success.

Picard, I don't understand that if your biopsy result stated that you had atrophy of the villi, why the doctor called it negative. Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought that this meant Celiac...I'm sorry that you're upset, but I can understand why. Did your symptoms resolve somewhat on the gluten-free diet?

Daxin, Thanks--you're very sweet!

Hey Susan, are you feeling better? Laying off the nuggets? I used to do a lot of sewing, too. Curtains, pillows and things like that. When I was much younger, I even made a few pieces of clothing. I haven't done more than hems, though for quite a while.

I hope that Rachel is off having a nice, carefree time!

Miamia, I never told you how much I like your picture--you are truly beautiful! :)

Celia, I'm keeping an eye on the weather down there! You're getting to be an expert at all of this.

Nikki, Is it still hot over there? My hair is literally twice it's normal size because of the humidity :D

I am just being lazy and dittoing all above here  lazy me!!

Spose I am just tired, we went on a health food spree today, drove a lot of miles..non very close. :rolleyes

do you all think that a bin/sliding lid and its own dipper/ fastener would be safe?? Did not buy this time but could save some money there If I decide is good idea, will not get back there for several months anyway. Afraid I am going to have to cut down on nuts for snacks since I have gained back most of the weight I wanted to gain, decided do not need some lbs I lost!!

Also I bought a book "Wheat Free" by Dana Korn. First reading of 3 pages it put me to sleep which is not unusual at all. Next session after waking I read most of 1st 2 chapters, just like some have said here it is really a good book. I REALLY recommend it to anyone needing to learn about Celiac disease!!

Pickard, how many pages back would I have to go to find your story about your illness, anyway I wish you the best in your search for health. :):)

I hope you are right about that christy storm in Florida. wishing a good evening to all of you in Rville. evie

No, can't skip the section. You know what though? It's only 6 weeks, and screw it, I'll do it for six weeks. It's not worth throwing away the rest of it just because of that. I'm already comprimising huge, pre-dx I wanted to do the pastry program :P

You also mentioned eating 10g of gluten for 2 weeks are longer do you think less then 6 weeks is ok? I heard 2 weeks gives false positives what about 4  weeks 10g whole wheat a day? I read 4 slices whole wheat equals to 10g gluten. Would eating 4 slices whole wheat bread a day along with elimination of other gluten suffice? Also do you recommend taking a multivitamin to play it safe or when I take the test ask for full vtamin blood test to see all vitamin levels and whatever im low in take that vitamin? Thanks
    • trents
Hello again, @JessikaSwallow78! I think you already posted in another section of the forum. My goodness! You are dealing with quite a few health challenges! Anemia and vitamin/mineral deficiencies are very common with celiac disease. Celiac disease damages the lining of the small bowel and reduces the ability to absorb vitamins and minerals from the food we eat. The lining of the small bowel is the section of the intestines where these things are absorbed and this issue may also be causing your discomfort after eating.  Constipation and diarrhea are classic GI symptoms with celiac disease. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder and you already have two autoimmune disorders, namely, Raynauds and Fibromyalgia. I mention this because autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. When you have one, you often acquire others with time. I think your next step is to get tested for celiac disease. The initial step of testing involves a blood draw from which they check for antibodies which are fairly specific to celiac disease. Ask your doctor to order these two lab tests, TTG-IGA and Total IGA (aka, Immunoglobulin IGA), when he/she does the blood draw. Make sure you don't start cutting back on wheat products in the mean time or you will invalidate the testing. Keep us posted.

Do you think a multi vitamin would be helpful! Also do symptoms got differently for everyone in regards to running to bathroom? I noticed regular oatmeal sometimes after eating or 1-2 hrs later I gotta go but on gluten-free no urgency. Sometimes I would eat 2 slices whole wheat and no issues for a few days so hard to pinpoint when it hits
