I'm 31.

I have a disease.

It requires me to be VERY careful about what I eat. I have a hard time with it.

When I do a good job, the clearest, most immediate symptom of my doing a good job over the week is in the restroom.

Thus, when I do a good job, and it "shows" I'm quite proud of myself.

Meaning I derive satisfaction from my BMs.

Such an odd part of my life.

Only you guys could understand.

Know what you mean. When I went gluten-free and I saw my first solid after 15 years of constant D I felt like telling the world. Thank goodness for friends and family my world is very small. :)

I can so relate to you, Yesterday my hubby came home and i was like honey i went to the bathroom by myself and it was great, he was like i am so proud of you. I had been taking an laxative for one day, but that was on monday lol

I understand completly. I feel that way too. You are right though, only we would be able to relate. All our nonceliac friends would look at us as if we were crazy.

How refreshing to know that I'm not insane for gauging my life by the quality of my BM's. That's why I'm so happy to have found this forum, because you all ARE the only people who would understand.

LOL. After I had kid, I had said to a friend I never thought I would enter a life where BM's would be normal conversation topics with other mothers. Now I'm the one who is excites when I "make good poopy". :ph34r: And this has become normal conversation with my hubby and mom. Who knew.

I was once asked in a job interview what I was most proud of. Now I think I have a good answer.... :ph34r: , at least for the jobs I don't really want :lol:

Ah, yes! Pooh freaks! I thought I was the only person in the world that looked in the toilet after pooping to check the color, consistency, and amount. So glad to know that I am not alone!

My 9 year old daughter's blood panels came back positive, so we have to take her to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis next month for the endoscopy. Last night my wife was filling out their patient questionaire and pops in the kitchen complaing about "they want to know what her poop likes like".

I then proceeded to give her the short course in color, consistency, floatability, etc.

She just smiled and said, " Huh!, I guess you do know jack squat(not exact word) after all." B)

Pooh freak.. and Proud of it!

Naw, if we were freaks, we would have had a "Best Looking Poop Contest" where we submit digital photos to be voted on! No baby contests in the celiac world, we have poop contests instead!!!!! :lol:

Ooooh this is just too bad! I am at the library and trying not to laugh too loudly at "potty humour" and hope that no one looks over my shoulder to see what I'm giggling about. Funny, but neither of my gastro docs (or even my GP whom I saw first) even asked me any of the all important, uh, quality questions.....or even how often a day I was "going".....and I am now happy to report to everyone that I have logs these days! Applause please? I'm so excited and only you folks could understand. Plus I can actually eat before going anywhere in my car.....amazing! :P

Eating before a car ride, now that's big. I know rest stop or gas station between Seattle and Portland, and from Portland to Boise. Now I don't care.

Once we were stuck in the passes, that was ugly. Complete standstill and no toliet..

Ah, I still need to know where all of the restrooms are.....just in case....I can still have an, uh, sense of urgency that others don't have but even the timing of that has improved and I can wait longer than say 15 seconds. People used to think that I was nuts when I would rate where the best restrooms were.... they just didn't know why it was such a big deal.

I have even considered becoming an inventor and devising a unit that we Celiacs could just attach to our bum or something....you know, just in case.....not very practical but kind of funny to think about when things have gotten bad. I guess the market for this type of product would be rather limited tho. Ah, so much for my get rich scheme, lol :P

      He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

      Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

      Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have.It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.

      @Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
