So one of the books I bought was "Making Faces" by Kevin Aucoin. He has a website and on the website are some makeup application tips along with a lot of other stuff (he doesn't use just minerals though):

That's a great website, Donna.

So I have a great tip for everyone:

Apply your foundation wet!

Put your foundation brush under the faucet, then dab it into a tissue. Continue as you normally would. Oh wow! It goes on so smoothly and hides pores this way! I love it! :D

Hey ladies - did you realize this thread is up over 1000 posts now? Who knew there was so much to say about makeup?

I sent EM an email yesterday while their website was down, and I also asked if they could give out any information about the new special. They replied back that the website was back up, but convenielntly neglected to answer my question about the new special. <_< I think I am going to give it until next payday, and if there is no special I am going to order anyway.

We are totally broke right now (just spent $800 for my husband's brakes, and $150 for tires for my car :( ), but I do have the $25 my Grandmother gave me for Christmas. I was going to try to buy some kind of organizer with it, but I really think I need to use it to buy more Everyday Minerals.

Also, I was walking around in Walmart yesterday while my tires were being fixed. Somehow I ended up in the sporting goods section. They had some really inexpensive tackle boxes that I think would work great for organizing makeup. Since I had time to burn, I compared them side by side with some of the organizers in the cosmetics section. The tackle boxes were half the price and had just as many compartments and shelves. And they come with a very informative little booklet on how to bait a hook and catch a big fish. Who knows when that's going to come in handy. :) OK - they arent purple and sparkly, but I think I am going to invest in one next payday. I am driving myself crazy trying to find the color I want in the plastic shoebox I have everything in now.

Today:

Multitasking foundation - Intensive (I really think I prefer original glo, though)

Jump Rope blush

Good China Base

Cool Breeze lid

Net Surfing crease

WW340 Rookie

I am getting so frustrated with this waiting. I emptied my cart on Saturday and was just going to get a new sample kit, then I convinced myself they would have a new special on Monday. So I redid my order, plus some. Now I am back to thinking I should just go ahead and order the sample kit.

What to do, what to do. I had hoped to have a good special and get the faster shipping on the whole thing.

I am going to try the wet brush. That sounds promising to me. My makeup always looks better a few hours later than it does when I first put it on. The longer it is on, the better it looks.

Purple sparkly glue pens are pretty cheap ;)

I agree - it's the same for me. It seems like I put on my makeup and it looks a little rough at first. But then 30 or so minutes later it settles in or something and looks really great. I've certainly never had anything that stays looking good all day before. EM really holds up.

Mango, great avatar. You're beautiful! :)

I about spewed my drink over the 80's hair picture! OMG!

Hi to all the newbies (and lurkers)! LOL!

I have another sample kit in my cart and the eye shadow kit. My friend and I decided to split the kit. I ordered a lot of what I saw others liked. The last thing in my kit is the Cherry Fizz lipgloss.

Today I'm wearing:

Foundation - medium (original glo)

Concealer - mint

Blush - jump rope

Eye Shadow - Clinique (please don't shoot me)

I really can't believe Carina didn't come back from New York with some exciting news and a new special. I'm a little bummed but am determined to wait it out...or find another mineral makeup compnay to try.

Your site is interesting Donna. That's the first time I've seen Kevyn spelled with a 'y'.

I have always wanted this book since it came out, which has been a few years now. I remember him promoting the book on some tv news show and I thought it would be a good book to have for basic make-up tips.

A most excellent tip of the day!

Ah me too! I can't believe there isn't a new special. I've had a cart full since the 22nd just waiting! I went and looked at a bunch of other mineral makeup companies....but.....they're just not the same. The sites aren't as easy to navigate, and the color descriptions for the foundation just aren't as good. A few of them have only 3 or 4 foundation colors! (light, medium, tan, dark) I've started considering placing my EM order even without a new special <_<

Today I'm wearing:

Sandy Fair original glo

Cherry fizz as blush (love this! more subtle than apple, which was too bright for me)

Countryside eyeshadow (just one color today, I was tired)

Girl's day lipstick

What does putting on the foundation wet do differently than putting it on dry? I'm curious now...I might have to try it tonight after my shower. And then wash my face again.

That's what I think about other websites too. None of them are quite as great as EM's.

Putting on the foundation wet makes it really smooth, and the coverage is a bit heavier I think (but in a good way). It's also less messy that way, and it hides pores really nicely.

Hi, I've missed quite a few pages here as I have been in transition.

But I think I have finally figured out the answer to the make-up accentuating fine lines.

First, I went to Clinique and took back the things I couldn't use and got $120 back. Now I wish I had brought back more with me from overseas! I talked with them about the skin care issues, and they have some new products that are gluten free--with rice bran, etc. Anyway, I stepped up the clarifying lotion to a stronger one, and added an extra moisturizer. I think this is helping. My skin has become more dry this year--perhaps age, perhaps going gluten-free.

Second, I rechecked my EM foundations when I got back to the USA, and my bathroom here has natural lighting. I put on a lighter foundation that I had "eliminated" and was just using on my eyes. Wow!! No fine lines!!

So, what I was using and was convinced was a good match was too dark! The day I switched, I had a haircut and asked my beautician about my foundation and she said it was a great match.

Now, I need to figure out which formula is the best. I may call and talk to them. I am using semi-matte. Do you all think I should switch to original glow? I hope they have a special soon because I have only a little of the foundation I now prefer.

One other thing I tried was mixing my EM foundation into moisturizer. I did this with the other color I was using and thought it helped a bit with the lines, but changing color helped more. I don't like the messiness of this though.

Hey Em, I can't either! I feel the same way about the other sites. When I can't find the important stuff like ingredients and freebies, I move on. Oh check this one out it's called............................of all things........................BM..........................LOL! But don't you think this is what we look like perusing over our EM stuff. lol!

They do have some great tips, though!

I agree! Some great makeup tips on them though!

I'm trying the wet brush foundation technique tomorrow. I've got a few pores that need hiding.

So glad you figured out your makeup! I have normal to dry skin and like the 'origanal glo' the best. The semi-matte is ok, too. I also don't want to really have to mix the moisturizer in with the foundation, but I liked Mangos tip about wetting the brush and using it with water.

I also found this technique interesting. I'm trying the 'butterfly' technique on the eyes tomorrow!

Hello all, just waiting for my wondreful package to come!!! Anyhow, hopefully by the end of the week i will have it!! ohh and this is off subject, but my aunt out in oregon is going gluten free, she says in the past when she did it she felt better, so i convinced her to do it..lol its so exciting for me, cuz someone else that i am close with, even though we live so far away, that is willing to take the leap. she saw me when i was a kid and knows how messed up i was, but i think in all of this it will bring us even closer than we already are...she said she might send me a package with some gluten free stuff!! she is going to get up on this site too! YAY!!!

Here are some interesting foundation techniques I found on the BM website: (hope I'm not boring you all with this information) :P

To create a medium-to-heavy coverage, you can try the any (or a combination) of the following methods:

1) Apply the foundation powder by using a foundation brush (flat brush head with nylon bristles) or makeup sponge. Press, instead of brush, the powder on and blend.

2) Use a powder brush with shorter and thicker (denser) brush head. The mineral powder will adhere to your skin better when applied with slight pressure, and a shorter and thicker brush head allows you to control the pressure better. Our Everyday Kabuki Brush, Luscious Kabuki Brush and Flat-Top Buffer are all designed to give you excellent control for mineral foundation application.

3) "Foiling". This refers to an application method of using a slightly damp brush. Our favorite method: Using a kabuki or buffer brush, pick up some foundation powder, tap the brush handle to slightly set powder into the brush hair, then spray the brush with one or two spritz of mineral toner. Then apply the powder in a circular/buffing motion.

4) Apply several layers of the foundation powder. Since Beaut

All this talk of ordering...I must confess I considered ordering today anyway, even without a special, but I KNOW I'd kick myself it they put up another one anytime this week, lol.

Colleen,

Yep! I love my craft tote. I was also looking at plastic tool boxes. I got a couple at Orchard Supply when I was painting regularly...they were much cheaper than the paint boxes in art stores, and held just as much if not more.

I like the way my makeup up looks right from the beginning, and it really lasts all day...I can hardly believe that. I still need to experiment with the eye area though. I'm going to try the finishing powder as a primer...my eyelids sweat so much and I tend to get crease lines.

Eye Shadow - Clinique (please don't shoot me)

NO problemo, lol. I'm still considering ordering the stuff I STILL have in my cart over at that luxe place Susie posted about, lol.

Julie,

The pictures of the makeovers are just fabulous! I haven't started reading it yet...I'm reading the other one first, lol.

Mango,

I'm still using my old drugstore lip glosses...in fact I've gone lip gloss crazy since using EM, lol. And, I just bought some cover girl lash blast, so I guess we are all in the same boat. :P

Paula,

See what you started!

Yeah...just what the EM website said! Glad you found one that worked.

I'll have to look at all the links posted tomorrow. I've been so flippin busy at work I may not have time there, but I'll have more time at home tomorrow.

Hi Sherry!

I'm glad that tip worked for you with the fine lines, using a lighter foundation :D

You might want to try the original glo if you are looking for more moisture, I also read on the EM community boards some people like to mix intensive with original glo, or a matte and a original glo, to customize the amount of moisture.

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply. Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct. Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right! Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?) A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs. Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten. It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy. Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all. There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes. The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals. Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case). I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology. I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body. Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses. Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal. It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while. Mine went away in about three days. I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too. Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine. You need all eight. Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way. It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well. Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes. (Don't use magnesium oxide. It's not absorbed well. It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.) Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine. Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter. It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine. I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Science-y Explanation of Thiamine Paradox: https://hormonesmatter.com/paradoxical-reactions-with-ttfd-the-glutathione-connection/#google_vignette

Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped. It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition. Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here. Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking. I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi. I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative. Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens. You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease. Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies. Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example. Thiamine test fine, but not pick up on beriberi. Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily. 10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [ ] 200 mg CoQ10 [ ] 100 mg DHEA [ ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [ ] 100 mg of B2 [ ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [ ] 100 mg B6 [ ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [ ] 500 mg vitamin c [ ] 500 mg taurine [ ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well. I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals. Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D. By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease. You got it from your mom or dad. Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia. I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse. Thiamine can get used up in a week or two. Symptoms can come and go with daily diet. Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency. Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already. I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back I was getting worse. At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks. Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp. Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet. Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough. Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it. Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨). I stopped AMA (not recommended). Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away. Improvement started in 72 hours. After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
