Hi - we are heading down to Disneyland in a couple of weeks, staying for 1.5 weeks. 4 in our family are celiac and we are in need of any tips for eating gluten-free while down there or if anyone knows of any restaurants that have gluten-free items in and around anaheim. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks

While at the park, go to city hall. They have lists of restaraunts at the park with gluten free options. As far as other restaraunts, there is a P F Changs on katella. In the Anaheim Garden Walk.

Please let me know how this goes! I'm planning a trip there in October.

According to the Disneyland website, people with special dietary needs should contact the restaurant in advance... I'd love to know what your experience is with either walk-in or advanced reservations. I've heard Disneyland is very good about accommodating people with Celiac or allergies.

If you haven't already read this, make sure you do: Open Original Shared Link. It definitely makes gluten-free at Disneyland seem heavenly. I haven't gone since changing my diet, but I intend to go before the summer's over (I live pretty close).

It sounds like calling ahead is the key to getting extra great service, so make sure you do. Have fun!

Disneyland is a GREAT place to go for gluten-free stuff. My favorite restaurant to go to is The Storyteller's Cafe which is in the California Hotel. They have gluten-free pizza, pasta, and more! Definitely get the list of gluten-free foods from city hall inside Disneyland. I went to the Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante once and had amazing Mexican food without a problem. I've also heard great things about the other restaurants on the gluten-free list they give you. Have fun!! It shouldn't be a problem.

Definitely let us all know how it goes. my husband and i have birthdays 6 days apart so we were wanting to go between the two days. i have heard a couple of good experience stories and no bad experiences so i think if you call ahead you will have a good time

have fun and good luck!

We had a very successful trip to Disneyland!

My son decided to swear of gluten for life while we were on vacation, so we ended up with both of us eating gluten-free at Disneyland.

We had bacon burgers with gluten-free buns that were actually good!

Be aware that the gluten-free pizzas are basically personal-size pizzas. They're pretty reasonably priced, too. I thought they were "whole pizzas" at the whole pizza price, but they weren't.

We were only there one day so we didn't eat all that much at Disneyland, but I look forward to next time. :)

I thought I replied to this but now I don't see my post. Maybe I forgot to hit the add reply button.

We live close to Disney and go there a lot. Disneyland is accomodating and helpful with EVERYTHING. I just love it there. I just got my diagnosis but years ago I had to go wheat free for nursing my son because of his allergies. Too bad they didn't diagnose me then. Disney had so many options! Now that I'm diagnosed celiac I will have to go and relearn what those are, but here are the ones I remember.

For anybody going in the future here's a bit of info.

Pizza Port near Space Mountain has a gluten free pasta. All you have to do is go up to someone on the pasta side and ask them to make it for you. Go in front of the line because they cook it to order, so if you wait in a long line you'll then be waiting for a few more minutes to get the pasta. Their meatballs might have gluten so make sure you ask. I don't know if they have gluten free pizza, but they might.

Storyteller's Cafe is a great place to go and has a lot of options, but it's outside the park.

Carnation Cafe will have options, too. Just ask the server. The chef there is SO nice and he comes to the tables regularly to say hello.

You can make reservations for any restaurants and avoid lines by calling 714 781- DINE.

Bengal Barbecue near Indiana Jones has grilled skewers with chicken or beef. There is also a wonderful grilled veggie skewer. I have to check about the sauces on them.

If it doesn't rain on Tuesday we are meeting up with my homeschool group there. It will be my first celiac Disney trip so I can get the info and post more later.

Here is an email I received from the folks at Disneyland in February, 2010 when I inquired about gluten-free dining at Disneyland:

To choose the restaurant where your party wishes to dine, read the menu then ask to speak with a chef or manager, if neither is available ask to speak with the lead on duty. Explain that you are on a Gluten?Free diet (Celiac disease) and that you would like to see the ingredient list. Please be aware some locations may close due to rain or slow times in the Park. I wonder what to do about other allergens? I am allergic to soy too... b/c of that I am always afraid of the gluten-free stuff at Dland. I go there frequently and haven't bought anything besides an apple and pineapple spear!

Thank you for the links to the articles.  Interesting reading. I'll be telling my brother in law because he has a lot of pain

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/

Hi, @Ginger38, I've had shingles in the past.  I understand how miserable you're feeling.   Not only do i have the chickenpox virus lurking about, I also have the cold sore virus that occasionally flares with a huge cold sore on my lip when stressed or exposed to gluten.  The virus lives dormant in the nerves on the left side of my face.  It causes Bell's Palsy (resulting in drooling).  The cold sore virus is also in my eye.  My eye swells up and my vision is diminished permanently whenever I have a flare, so it's of the utmost importance to keep flares away and treat them immediately if they do happen so I don't lose any more vision.   I take the amino acid supplement L-Lysine.  Lysine messes with the replication of viruses, which helps the body fight them off.   I haven't had an outbreak for several years until this year when exceptionally stressed and contaminated, it flared up again. Lysine has been shown to be beneficial in suppression of viruses like the cold sore virus (a herpetic virus), the chickenpox virus (also a herpetic virus), as well as the HIV virus, and even the Covid virus.   I also take additional Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) because Thiamine has antiviral properties as well.   For pain, a combination of Thiamine (like TTFD or Benfotiamine or Thiamine Hydrochloride), with B12 Cobalamine, and Pyridoxine B6 have been shown to have analgesic properties which relieve pain and neuropathy.    The combination of Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and Cobalamine B12 really does work to relieve pain.  I take it for pain from crushed vertebrae in my back.  This combination also works on other pain and neuropathy.   I usually buy a supplement that combines all three and also Riboflavin B2 called EXPLUS online.  However, it's made in Japan and the price with the tariffs added makes it really expensive now.  But the combination of Thiamine B1, Pyridoxine B6 and B12 Cobalamine (and Riboflavin B2) still work even if taken separately.   I can't take Tylenol or ibuprofen because of stomach upsets.  But I can take the vitamin combination without side effects.  However, you can take the three vitamins at the same time as other pain relievers for added benefit.  The vitamins help other pain relievers work better. I hope you will try it.  Hopeful you'll feel better quickly. Interesting Reading: Thiamine, cobalamin, locally injected alone or combination for herpetic itching: a single-center randomized controlled trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23887347/ Mechanisms of action of vitamin B1 (thiamine), B6 (pyridoxine), and B12 (cobalamin) in pain: a narrative review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35156556/ Analgesic and analgesia-potentiating action of B vitamins https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12799982/ A Narrative Review of Alternative Symptomatic Treatments for Herpes Simplex Virus https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10301284/
