ARCHIVED How Did You Handle The Superbowl Parties?
Juliebove replied to AnnJay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have only ever been to one Superbowl party in my life and had I known that's what it was, I wouldn't have gone. I really hate football and really all sports. My now husand invited me to a party and I didn't know what it was. He just assumed that I knew what it was. To me a party is either a dinner party or a birthday party or maybe a place with dancing... -
ARCHIVED Vegan And Possibly Gluten Intolerant? Help?
Juliebove replied to tieffers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is the oatmeal gluten-free? It's not all gluten-free. You may or may not have celiac but as the other poster said, if you weren't eating gluten, then your test won't come back right. You could also have a food intolerance or allergy. To gluten, wheat or both. My daughter did. You could also have other food intolerances or allergies.- 3 replies

ARCHIVED How Do You Avoid The Why Me Pity Party?
Juliebove replied to AnnJay's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I did that with almond butter. As soon as it went into my mouth, I realized my mistake. Spit it right out and rinsed my mouth. Thankfully no problems. I just tell myself that everyone has problems to deal with. Some of us seemingly more than others. I don't really miss any foods any more because I know how sick they make me. But... I do really... -
ARCHIVED I Dread Eating Out, Please Help
Juliebove replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oddly enough, salads are rarely a safe food for me! Can't tell you how many I've gotten with croutons on them. Or they put them on and then pick them off. Or I'll get towards the bottom of the plate or bowl and there is the lone crouton. Gluten isn't an issue for me but eggs, dairy and other things are so bread and pasta usually isn't safe for me. ARCHIVED Mislabeling Medical Illness As Mental Disorder
Juliebove replied to sora's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If I had a dime for every time they failed to diagnose something or incorrectly diagnosed something or gave me a med that worsened the problem or that I shouldn't have been on to begin with, I'd be rich! Alas it can be really tough to sort everything out when you have more than one medical problem like I do. -
I take Carafate. Not sure if it helps because I normally have no symptoms. Just the damage. I couldn't take any other GERD meds. Not only did they actually give me symptoms but caused severe migraines and weird dreams. I do have to watch my diet. Can eat no chocolate now, ever. It is really the only thing that ever caused symptoms. Can't say if...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else React To Salt/sodium?
Juliebove replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
AFAIK I have no salt issues but I have been eating Real Salt for years. I do keep some cheap salt for use in cleaning or if I need to gargle with hot salt water. My friend is very salt/sodium sensetive and her feet and ankles will swell if she eats bacon. -
ARCHIVED A Little Worried
Juliebove replied to Macmuireadhaigh's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I take digestive enzymes too but have to be careful not to get the ones with Bromelain in them because that gives me an upset stomach. The cheapest ones I've seen are from Swanson online. They're called HCL. You may need a different form or something stronger. In the meantime, try to chew your food very well and eat slowly. You might also consider eating... -
ARCHIVED Need School Lunch Ideas
Juliebove replied to Worried mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know the age of your daughter. When mine was 6 I got those chip and dip containers. I'd send those in with hummus and baby carrots or tiny corn chips or gluten-free pretzels. Also a thermos of soup until she had an accident with soup spilling all over her backpack and papers. I also sent in leftovers in an insulated container until twice, the... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With A Good Bread Recipe?
Juliebove replied to eleanorj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Note that this is not my recipe. I copied it from a newsgroup. But it is quick to make, very good and cheap! Hi All It's been quite a while since iI posted but I just had to post a very simple delicous bread recipe I have developed. Like my mother used to say "necessity is the mother of invention". We travel a lot for Ken's work these days and... -
ARCHIVED Near East Rice
Juliebove replied to gancan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's very easy to do rice from scratch. When I make Spanish rice I toast the rice in a little olive oil until it's lightly browned. You can use white or brown rice for this but brown will take longer to cook. From there, the most simple way to do this is to sub in some form of tomato product for part of the water. You can use salsa, tomato sauce (we like... -
ARCHIVED So I Just Found Out
Juliebove replied to mackahroni's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
If you like popcorn, you can try popping sorghum. I've not seen it in the store but I got it online. It's like dollhouse popcorn. The corn will be the hardest to avoid I think since it is used in sooo many products now. Many plastics are made of it and they are using it to line cans. The peanuts can be tricky because so many things can be cross... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated... Daughter Keeps Getting Glutened.
Juliebove replied to Mom2-2girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Might she be playing with Play Doh or do they have it at the daycare? Could you have any shampoo or toothpaste with gluten? Pet food? -
ARCHIVED Igg Intolerance Testing?
Juliebove replied to lockerbear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have had both the blood and hair tests done. Daughter and I both loved the hair test! Caught things that the blood test didn't test for. Like herbs. -
ARCHIVED I Have Itchy Ears
Juliebove replied to rustkll's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you seen an ENT? I finally had to do that. I would get insanely itchy ears. At one point I had psoriasis in my ears. Other times it was a fungal infection. -
ARCHIVED Server Upgrade - Possible Log In Issues
Juliebove replied to Scott Adams's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I too am having trouble getting to the forum. -
My salon doesn't use spray unless you ask. You might want to find a salon that caters to younger people because I think they are less likely to want the spray. Look for one that has stations that are far apart. The stations are close together where we go but there is never anyone working in the chair next to where we go. If you are still worried, you...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Loathe Jeans?
Juliebove replied to GFreeMO's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't wear them any more. For most of my life, I hated them. I did start wearing them in Jr. High but only because that was pretty much what all of the other kids wore. I was very picky though and the demin had to be very soft. I also wore them as a young adult and I also wore heels which I no longer wear. Currently I have an assortment of medical... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Couponing And Hoarders (Shows)
Juliebove replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Some people do dumpster diving to get them but that is illegal here. Some also know people who will give them the extra inserts. There was one lady in one town who said she was the only place where you could buy papers. I can't remember what her business was. That left her with all the extra inserts. And of course you can buy the coupons which some of... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Couponing And Hoarders (Shows)
Juliebove replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Apparently Walmart *will* give you overages but I have also heard that many of their stores will pull the coupon items off the shelf so you can't eve buy them. Our Walmart doesn't have a full grocery so we rarely buy food there. I think I have used a couple of coupons but there was no overage. -

ARCHIVED Extreme Couponing And Hoarders (Shows)
Juliebove replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't know if it is exactly the same thing and here's why. Hoarders often have some bad event in their life that triggers the hoarding. They can't get rid of anything, including garbage. And they can't seem to see the filth. Or sometimes they do but don't seem to know what to do about it. Something inside of them makes them seem to think it is normal... -
It could go away. It did for my daughter but... Now she has a thyroid problem so still has to avoid soy.

ARCHIVED Just Stumped The Nutritionist
Juliebove replied to Chaff's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My daughter and I have an upcoming appointment with a dietician at our Endocrinologist's office. Am *not* looking forward to it. I have been to many of them before I knew about the food intolerances. I was a vegetarian then. All of them pushed chicken. I *hate* chicken. And now maybe I know why. I am intolerant to it. And it took us so long to find... -
ARCHIVED Allergies Now Too? Anyone Else? Had Enough Today
Juliebove replied to designerstubble's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I get hives *in* my eye. The first time it happened, I have no clue what triggered it. Then the next time, I was in the woods and my BIL had moved a tree branch out of the way so we could get through. As in a branch that was attached to the tree and he accidentally let it go just as I was passing. It whapped me in the eye and the eyeball immediately began...
