ARCHIVED Confusion About Gluten Intolerance
GFinDC replied to Sarahsmile416's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sarah, Yes, it is possible for an irritated and inflamed digestive system to react inconsistently. It would be surprising if it didn't really. Even after people go gluten-free, they can have ongoing problems with foods that are not gluten for a while until their gut heals. Imagine you have a burn on your hand. And then bump the burned hand against... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
GFinDC replied to ampmomof3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know, but is it possible that their hands and fingers are a little swollen also? Just wondering. Sometimes people with allergic reactions have swelling (edema) in their hands, feet or face etc. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Enzymedica Digest
GFinDC replied to Chad Sines's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use the Enzmedica line of enzymes so can't answer. But it is good you are feeling better! -
ARCHIVED Fading Fast. And I'm Just Getting Started :(
GFinDC replied to Cderbogh's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi, You may have low stomach acid. You could try some Betaine HCL and some pro-biotics to see if that helps. When the gut is irritated and food moves through too quickly it sometimes isn't digested completely. Digestive enzymes may help also. It seems like our guts are often irritated at first on the gluten-free diet. All the bacterial changes... -
ARCHIVED How Long Would It Take To Feel Different/better?
GFinDC replied to mars817's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So you weren't really gluten free for 11 days? Every time you start eating gluten again you set yourself back some. It only takes a small amount of gluten to start a reaction by your body. The longer you stay gluten-free the less the cravings for it will be. It is harder to resist at first because we are used to eating it. But once you get out of the... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
GFinDC replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi LJ, If you are sure you are allergic to one of them, it seems pointless to test that one. I don't know if you can have an anaphylactic reaction to a skin applied allergen. I think the breathing part would be dependent on breathing it in or ingesting it. I am somewhat allergic to cats. So when I pet Muffin-head and then rub my eyes it gets irritated... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
GFinDC replied to ampmomof3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The kids may have another gluten related condition, like this article linked describes. There no standard tests for it right now. Or they could have celiac also. You didn't get eh full celiac test panel done it seems. Some people show a response on one of the antibody tests but not the others. So it is best to get all of them done. Now that they are... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Products Make Me Sick?
GFinDC replied to qwertygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most of them have soy, or dairy, or potato flour (nightshade), or grape juice as a sweetner. All of those cause me problems. You can react to any ingredient and develop an intolerance to it. -
ARCHIVED My Stomach Is An Evil Dictator And Need Putting In Line, Anyone Wanna Help?
GFinDC replied to rgarton's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Since you are open to all suggestions, I suggest you eat meat. Meat give you complete proteins, which is helpful when you are sick. Your diet doesn't seem to have enough protein in it to me. Maybe some fish would work and eggs. Can you do other grain subs, like quinoa or amaranth? Too much of any one thing is not real good, especially with such a limited... -
ARCHIVED How Long Would It Take To Feel Different/better?
GFinDC replied to mars817's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mars817, You should plan to stay on the gluten-free diet for 3 months at least. 6 Months is a better test. It's not an instant cure, it takes time. -
ARCHIVED Thyroid "totally Looks Like" Gluten?
GFinDC replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The only autoimmune disease we know the trigger for is celiac disease. All the others are not known at this point. We do know that people with celiac have a higher chance of getting other auto-immune diseases. My own personal "hunch" is that leaky gut plays a role in that. Protein fragments get in the blood stream and can cause an immune reaction in various... -
The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So how about elephant? Girrafe? Rhino? Dolphin? There are lots of options to eliminate still. I am not going to suggest monkey tho, gross. Maybe he got the tick bite meat allergy? They say those Texas ticks can make people allergic to cow meat. It sounds to me like Peotr has some unused extra storage space in his garage that needs filling. I could... -
ARCHIVED Fading Fast. And I'm Just Getting Started :(
GFinDC replied to Cderbogh's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Cderbogh, You may be able to eat corn starch, but not corn protein. But that is something you will have to test to find out. All you have to do is put some corn starch in a glass of water and drink it. Many people who have reactions to foods react to the proteins, not the starch part. Like someone said, if you stick with whole foods, you don... -

ARCHIVED Wheat + Sleep = No Pain?! I Think I Found My Cure! (Possibly?)
GFinDC replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The suggestion to look at blood sugar makes sense to me. You may be getting sleepy after eating the danish due to the amount of sugar in it and the carbs. You can get a blood glucose test kit at a pharmacy and check your own levels. It isn't hard to do. You should test right before you eat, an hour after eating, and 2 hours after eating. Don't eat anything... -
ARCHIVED 3 Weeks In: Will It Ever Get Better?
GFinDC replied to Hala's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Hannah, Welcome to the forum! Three weeks is a good start on the gluten-free diet. But it is still just a start. Your body can't absorb nutrients properly when the villi are damaged by celiac disease, so you may be low in some. Especially the fat soluble vitamins. After going gluten-free your body will start to wind down the immune system... -

ARCHIVED Think I May Have Celiac Sensitivity, Diagnosed Diverticulosis
GFinDC replied to lcn1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are quite welcome ICN1010! There really is great bunch of info here and lots of support. It's nice to know we aren't alone in these problems when they happen. It's also nice to know people can get better and improve by adjusting their diet. It may take some time for the things to get better part, but it can happen. Corrected some typoes. -
ARCHIVED Found Something For Inflammation
GFinDC replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I stopped the nettle tea also. I kept some for trying later, but don't drink it every day now. Same thing with peppermint tea. I don't think people should drink it every day either. Ginger tea worked for a while, but I had to stop it also. And cinnamon, and chocolate tea. Some things seem to be ok in small occasional quantities, but not in constant... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed with Questions
GFinDC replied to L.J.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HI LJ, Halvah is a candy made from sesame seed paste (Tahini). Joyah is the brand I see in stores around here. You can make it yourself altho I have never tried that. i don't buy it often because it doesn't last very long once opened. Very sad I suppose you could make something similar with any seed paste or butter. It is a middle Eastern treat... -
ARCHIVED Think I May Have Celiac Sensitivity, Diagnosed Diverticulosis
GFinDC replied to lcn1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cool, feeling better is great! I suggest you stick with whole foods mostly and limit the gluten-free processed foods. You can always add those things in later after you have healed up some. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten-free diet. Get your vitamin/mineral levels tested... -
ARCHIVED Liver Problems In Celiac
GFinDC replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Elevated liver enzymes are the reason I think new gluten-free'ers should avoid alcohol for the first 6 months. To give their livers the best chance to repair with less strain. Why make a bad situation worse or harder is my thinking. I am not just a prude. Or not only a prude? Something like that. -
ARCHIVED Does Celiac Affect Motor Skills?
GFinDC replied to javic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
HI, It could be a symptom of celiac. Celiac can affect the brain and nerves as well as the gut. One possible problem is nutrient deficiency that impairs nerve growth and repair, another is an immune attack on the brain call gluten ataxia. -
ARCHIVED An Interesting Story And Introduction
GFinDC replied to foam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Foam, No, TPO antibodies are part of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Hashimoto's is an autoimmnue thyroid disease that attacks the thyroid gland. People with Hash's can have hypo symptoms and hyper thyroid symptoms. One of the things that happens is the thyroid is attacked and sometimes it swells upon one side or the other. ARCHIVED If You React To Oats What's It Like?
GFinDC replied to megsybeth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Same as gluten for me. C for 2 or 3 days with pain and then D. You could try eliminating oats for 6 months and then trial them again. Give your gut some time to heal and then see if they work for you.
