Fat Malabsorption?
GFinDC replied to BarryC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh that's right! Didn't you take your's out and use it as an air bladder when escaping that submarine? Actually, it seems quite a few people come on the forum who have had their gall bladders removed. I am guessing the lack of the proper chemical signal telling the gall bladder to empty lets the bile build up and makes stones and causes damage. That... -
Seeking Advice about Fecal Transplant to Treat Celiac Disease
GFinDC replied to Dave-C's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum! I read the first article linked. It talks about a person with refractory celiac disease becoming better after the transplant. But that person was still eating a gluten-free diet. They weren't cured of celiac disease. But the refractory response was not present. The 2nd article doesn't contain any examples... -
Fat Malabsorption?
GFinDC replied to BarryC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a chemical signal generated by the small intestine that tells the gallbladder when to release bile. That chemical signal may not be functioning right for you. Or your gallbladder may be damaged. A doctor can do a HIDA scan to check for gallbladder function. But if all you need is some enzymes to help your digestion then that's much simpler... -
Suggested Celiacs Disease
GFinDC replied to AdriE's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The usual process is to do both the blood antibodies tests and the endoscopy. The antibodies can show the immune system is reacting to gluten. The endoscopy can show that the antibodies are actually attacking the small intestine and causing damage. The antibodies can also attack other parts of the body, like the skin, nerves, liver etc. As long as you... -
It is actually pretty common for some celiacs with DH to not have severe GI symptoms at first. They can get severe GI symptoms as time goes on though. DH is caused by antibodies in the skin. So the immune attack is in the skin vs the gut. But there is no guarantee it won't move on to the gut with continued irritation by gluten. Then he would get both...

Hi, Is her stomach bloated? If she has gas in her stomach it may force the valve open and let acid enter the esophagus. She should sleep sitting up to keep the acid low in her stomach. If she is not eating gluten the celiac tests won't be accurate. So you should get her to a doctor for celiac tests right away. It doesn't need to be an allergist...

Agree with RavenwoodG. DH is a diagnosis of celiac disease. Only people with celiac get DH. Dapsone is supposed to be used as a temporary treatment until the DH rash subsides. Not as an ongoing medicine. He should not eat gluten at all as it is the trigger for an antibody attack by the immune system. DH can be difficult to get under control as it is...

Smart doggie! I remember getting glutened once early on and it took 6 weeks to get over the symptoms. Fatigue was a recurring problem. I think part of it was caused by gut dysbiosis. There are lots of bacteria in your gut. Some of them actually help digest foods we eat. Others are just hanging around for a free meal and to reproduce as much as...

I thought I would feel fine after short time gluten-free. It turned out to take quite a while to get much better though. Slow improvements were the name of the game. You might try cutting out diary from your diet for a few months now. Celiac damages the villi that produce an enzyme (lactase) which digests dairy sugar (lactose). So you may be lactose...

Celiac or gluten intolerant?
GFinDC replied to Elineea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Elineea, You have some options. You can check if they did the complete celiac disease panel, or just the ttg-IgA screening test. Some people don't show up positive on that test but do on another antibody test. You can also wait 6 months and try to get the tests done again. Maybe the antibody levels will be high enough to show up then. Or...- 2 replies

I need advice, if possible.
GFinDC replied to AdventEclipse's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Yes, I think you should get tested for celiac disease. But don't go to just any doctor. Do an internet search for celiac doctor in your area, then choose someone who says they deal with celiac. Sometimes there are support groups on Facebook for an area or at hospitals or other groups. If you can find one local ask them for a doctor suggestion... -
Looking for input
GFinDC replied to Mesa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Mesa, All celiac testing requires us to be on a gluten containing diet for accurate results. The university of Chicago celiac center reccommends 12 weeks of eating gluten before the blood antibodies testing, and 2 weeks before the endoscopy testing. *************************************************************** https://www.cureceliacdisease... -
Do my symptoms add up
GFinDC replied to TONTO's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tonto, It's ok to eat gluten for now. Until the testing is done you shouldn't change your diet. Except for dairy, you could cut that out without affecting the tests. Usually soy sauce has gluten in it (wheat) but they do make wheat free versions now. Unless they use clean pots and pans and understand cross-contamination I wouldn't eat at any restaurant... -
Do my symptoms add up
GFinDC replied to TONTO's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, gluten-free beer is available, so no problem there. It tends to be a little pricey though. Wine is fine too, although some people have problems with it. Your meat and veggies diet will do good for you with celiac disease. Eggs and fruit are ok too. Many people have trouble with dairy for several months until some healing happens. But there are... -
I hope you are feeling better now Ennis_TX. I was reading an article earlier about caffeine reducing he amount of calcium, iron, and vitamin D we can absorb. So maybe avoiding caffeine for an hour before eating and after is helpful for that. https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/the-health-hub/sports-nutrition/sports-supplements/caffeine/does-caffeine...

Do my symptoms add up
GFinDC replied to TONTO's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Tonto, Yes, a false positive is possible, although unlikely. Please keep eating gluten until all testing is done, including the endoscopy. Don't worry too much about having celiac disease. While it's a serious condition it can be controlled with diet, which many conditions cannot. It turns out there is life after a celiac diagnosis! Most times... -
More research would be great AWOL-CIS. There is a great opportunity IMHO for researchers to learn more about vitamin/mineral effects in the human body by studying celiacs. Another aspect of nerve damage besides immune attack is lack of B vitamins and trace minerals. But you are right, a lot more could be learned about it all.

Celiac disease ??
GFinDC replied to Pattys117's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, IMHO that is a strong indication of celiac disease as you called it. You can ask the doctor to do the full celiac diseased antibodies panel also. It is good to do all the antibody tests because some people react on only one antibody test and not others. The other test they can do is an endoscopy where they take 4 to 6 biopsy samples for a lab... -

Gallbladder attacks, B12 & D deficiency
GFinDC replied to Marmarl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I was on the 50 K IU D pills also. My vitamin D barely budged on them. When I added NatureMade 1000 IU D daily it did go up. So a daily intake seems to be more effective than a once weekly, regardless of dosage. -
New to site, not new to issue
GFinDC replied to RonMc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, another suggestion then. Stop eating gluten on your birthday, or any other day too. Celiac disease is not a joke. Just because it affects diet does not make it a minor condition. The immune reaction can cause damage to any part of your body. People with celiac can develop a skin rash called DH (dermatitis herpetiformis) that is very hard to control... -
If you are newly taking lisonopril it may be that causing the cough. Lisonopril can cause coughing but it may dissipate over the course of several months. At least it did for me.

New to site, not new to issue
GFinDC replied to RonMc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi RonMC, It is often reported by forum members that their bodies react more strongly to minor gluten exposure after going gluten-free. Initial recovery can take varying amounts of time, but 18 months or longer is not unusual IMHO. Some suggestions follow. I would suggest you skip restaurants until you are feeling better for a few months running... -
Suggested Celiacs Disease
GFinDC replied to AdriE's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are several antibody tests that they can do for celiac disease. Ask you doctor for the full celiac disease test panel. The antibodies are usually the first test done. Then they do an endoscopy and take biopsy samples of the small intestine lining. They check the biopsy samples with a microscope to see if there is celiac type damage. Your doctor... -
I think there is a bit of confusion about the study. What they did is use blood from celiac disease patients who were all eating gluten at the time. These are not blood samples from people who were on the gluten-free diet. They then used those active celiac disease blood samples to test for antibody reactions to things like barley flour, gluten-free beer...
