Well, we all know you are a sick puppy Scott! Are you sure it doesn't affect you? I wonder if you tried stopping it for a couple months if you'd feel different/better. Sometimes we don't notice changes if they happen slowly. Like in slight contamination over a period of time. Just a thot.

Celiac tests negative but I stll have all of the symptoms
GFinDC replied to bpetroni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For some people they get a definitive diagnosis quickly. For others it may take years for symptoms to get bad enough to get the diagnosis. Most people with celiac disease are still not diagnosed. Doctor often won't test for it or will not do the full celiac antibodies panel And some people only show up positive on one of the types of antibodies, not... -
It's been nice knowing you Aaron. Duhn... duhn... duhn! Sorry Halloween humor there. We are all individuals so a one size fits all answer isn't possible. But for me, a glutening has caused symptoms for 6 weeks running before. Peanut allergies are a different thing so not sure on that. Maybe your doctor could tell you if it's ok to try some Benedhryl...

Celiac tests negative but I stll have all of the symptoms
GFinDC replied to bpetroni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
People can have reactions to any food. There is a wide variety of foods that people on the forum react to in addition to wheat, rye and barley. The stomach is not the primary place celiac disease damages. Instead it is the small intestine that celiac causes damage to. -
Celiac tests negative but I stll have all of the symptoms
GFinDC replied to bpetroni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Having lactose intolerance is not usually a symptom of NCGS because NCGS doesn't cause gut damage. So lactose intolerance is more an indicator of possible celiac disease. There is not much lactose in hard cheeses. So it could be you have a reaction to milk proteins as well. I have that myself and don't eat any cheese or any dairy. You might do... -
Bunch of questions about celiac disease
GFinDC replied to Pam P's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Fatigue is a common symptom for untreated celiacs. Celiac destroys the villi lining of the small intestine. Those villi are what absorb nutrients from the food we eat. So the body is malnourished while eating plenty of food. He may have some vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The doctor can test for those. Simple foods made at home are the best choice... -
Woman Discovers Her Celiac Disease with 23andMe Gene Test
GFinDC commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
Yes, the celiac testing process is 12 weeks of eating gluten before the blood antibodies are drawn, or 2 to 4 weeks before the endoscopy is done. It's definitely better to do all the celiac disease testing before going gluten-free. Gene testing is interesting but it doesn't prove a person has celiac disease. Around 30% of people have the celiac gene/(s...- 9 comments

I agree, your results as stated don't suggest celiac disease, in my non-doctor opinion. Perhaps the full celiac disease panel is a good idea as Cycles suggested. You could try searching the doctors thread for idea on doctors to consult, or check Dr. Google for celiac in your area. You may find a doctor that way. It's possible your doctor didn...

Celiac tests negative but I stll have all of the symptoms
GFinDC replied to bpetroni's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi again bptroni, Since your symptoms have improved some on the gluten-free diet that is a pretty strong indicator that gluten is a problem for you. If gluten is not a problem there shouldn't be any change from stopping eating it. We do have members with NCGS on the forum. I don't know if any of them will pop in or not. Your symptoms changing... -
Celiac tests negative but I stll have all of the symptoms

Hi, There are more people with NCGS than there are with celiac disease. You are right there are no tests for NCGS. But it's possible that some of the people who think they have NCGS are actually FODMAP intolerant instead. You could try a low FODMAP diet for a few months to see of it helps. You can also try the gluten-free diet to see of things... -
Right, the gluten-free diet won't hurt her. The best way to start it is to avoid all processed foods. Eat meats, veggies, nuts, and eggs instead. No dairy. We have a forum member (EnnisTX) with UC who is on a keto diet. He may pop around with some tips too.

Possible Celiac
GFinDC replied to Steve3005's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Steve, Sure sounds like celiac to me. You should not stop eating gluten before getting tested. All celiac testing depends on the person having been on a gluten diet for a while. One of the problems with celiac is it causes malabsorption of nutrients. So we may not get the vitamins and minerals from our food that our body needs to function... -

Yay for corn syrup and food coloring! -
Not sure what brand avocado oil I have but I got it at Chinamart. Never had a problem with it. Vinegar is generally safe if it is apple cider vinegar. Balsamic vinegar can sometimes be a problem though. Mustard has vinegar in it but I never got sick from vinegar in mustard.

Elimination diet

Some pain medications can cause stomach damage and pain. Aspirin and Ibuprofen are two that can cause stomach pain if taken for prolonged periods. You should take pain medications with food. Have you seen the Newbie 101 thread in the "Coping With Celiac" section? It has some tips for starting the gluten-free diet. Some people have cross contamination... -
Depression after being Gluten Free
GFinDC replied to kanucme2019's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, Some things to have checked or maybe try taking a little of them are selenium and boron. I am not sure they check these during typical blood tests so maybe ask your doctor to verify. Selenium is important for gland/hormone function. Boron is helpful for maintaining vitamin D levels and also storing calcium in bones. Just a few things to check... -
Hi, Maybe check some of the links in the Goggle search below? There is also support on this forum as we have many members who have celiac or NCGS and are glad to help. There is a Newbie 101 thread in the Coping With Celiac forum section that has some tips for getting started on the gluten-free diet. https://www.google.com/search?q=celiac+support...

The doctor will probably send your pics and biopsy samples to a lab for analysis. They check the biopsy samples for flattening of the villi and cells that indicate inflammation typical of celiac disease. Sometimes the damage from celiac is obvious in pics, but most times it needs to be checked under a microscope to see.

Hi, Yes, it is normal to have symptoms continue or even worsen some after going gluten-free. That change is reflective of the healing process in the gut. When your intestinal villi are flattened out, there isn't a lot of space for a healthy intestinal flora to habitate. But as the gut starts to heal and the inflammation goes down, the villi will start...

Yep, celiac disease can cause elevated liver enzymes. They should be okay once the gluten-free diet is followed for a while. https://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/should-someone-with-elevated-liver-enzymes-be-screened-for-celiac-disease/#targetText=Elevated liver enzymes are one,a strict gluten-free diet. You don't need to eat a lot of gluten for the testing. Just a small amount each day. Your doctor can give you advice about it. Some people may find it easier to eat their daily gluten dose before going to bed so they can sleep through some of the initial symptoms. Others may find it better to eat it in the morning etc. What works best for each person...

Hi Tamog, I think it would be good to ask the doctor if they are planning any more testing. The celiac blood antibody tests followed by an endoscopy is the standard diagnostic process. But if you are satisfied and want to go gluten-free now and forget about further testing that's fine. Just be aware that it is harder to get tested later as you would...

Hi Tamog, Normally the doctor will do an endoscopy to check for villi damage in the small intestine. You shouldn't go gluten-free until after the endoscopy. The GI should take 4 to 6 biopsy samples during the endoscopy. The biopsies are usually sent to a lab for analysis. Celiac disease often causes atrophy of the small intestine villi, and that...
