ARCHIVED Shampoo And Make Up
ksymonds84 replied to CVRupp's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Burt's Bees is a wonderful company that has many gluten free cosmetics, shampoos and conditioners. I use the grapefruit ones. I used to use their chapstick but it does contain soy so now am using a natural grocer brand. -
My youngest daughter who is 19 was diagnosed last week with gluten intolerance...she refuses to be scoped but with my diagnoses and genes, I am not asking her too. Anyway she came home last night with a huge hive on her cheek and I said, "what did you eat?" She told me that she went to pizza hut with her boyfriends family because it was his moms birthday...

ARCHIVED Dr Wants More Mammogram Films
ksymonds84 replied to Skylark's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This happened to me last year. For me it was that they needed to compress a little tighter on one side to see better. It was all good. It did scare me to death though. Like you they also waited a couple weeks to inform me that I needed to come back in for more images. The one thing they told me which may help you is that they don't wait two weeks if... -
ARCHIVED Bill Clinton Does Have Celiac
ksymonds84 replied to Eriella's topic in Publications & Publicity
I can remember when he was Pres. he used to get teased for doing his jogging then getting a McDonald's Big Mac! It must have caught up with him....lol -
Just want to say that I too cannot drink regular soda's (because of fructose load) but am fine with diet coke or pepsi. Thanks for mentioning Hansens I haven't tried it and will now. Aspartame is fine for my fructose intolerance but the diet sodas with splenda will wreak havoc everytime!

It can take up to 72 hours for a food reaction to show. I know that is hard which is why with elimination diets you only eat say rice and chicken for 72 hours then add one more thing and wait 72 hours. With my journal I always wrote say a "N" for a normal day "D" for diarrhea day "L" loose and so on so I would look back over 3 days and try to figure it...

For me, keeping a food diary along with writing down symptoms for the day, really helped me figure what else was going on. I was able to see that the mornings I was eating a gluten free waffle with peanut butter and blueberry preserves was giving me a D day. Also at Thanksgiving I had a severe reaction. Everything was gluten free but I had sweet potato...

I used to think that I still had IBS riding along with the celiac but then found out that I also have a problem with fructose. I can only eat so much fructose in one sitting or I greatly pay for it with the big D. Fruit, applesauce, and anything with High fructose corn syrup and corn syrup solids will get me if I have too much. everyone is different on...

ARCHIVED Mourning The Loss Of Gluten?
ksymonds84 replied to firefightersgal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I want to second this, my BIL has HD but did have a negative celiac panel. HD = permanent lifetime gluten free diet. Once he went gluten free, his rash slowly went away (a few weeks) and hasn't had it since (he's four years gluten free). I still miss things and will sometimes have a pity party,as my husband calls them. However; I tell my self that no... -
Thanks Lisa, sounds like a very interesting book!

ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Reliable?
ksymonds84 replied to Lori2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My Gastro doctor (who is a Celiac expert) believes Dr. Fine has an excellent tool in screening probable celiac patients and used it for himself (he has suffered IBS for years with negative blood work and endoscopy for celiac) and his children. Since Dr.Fine hasn't published for peer view my doctor does not use the test to diagnose. He did look at my results... -

ARCHIVED News Story: "gluten Free" Foods May Be Contaminated
ksymonds84 replied to canadave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How I read the article is that they tested naturally gluten free grains and flours meaning they did not test products that said certified gluten free on them. So if you just buy rice or soy flour that does not say gluten free on the package you could have contamination issues. I'm behind on the forum so not sure if this has already been discussed. -
ARCHIVED Annoying Mouth Problems
ksymonds84 replied to Kim27's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't get them as often now but would mostly get them on my tongue and around the sides of my tongue which as you know made it very painful to eat. Before my celiac diagnosis I got them all the time, now just once in awhile. Very acidic stuff like Franks hot sauce, pineapples, limes ect will sometimes cause them for me as well. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Diet For Non Celiacs
ksymonds84 replied to pumpkin81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's wonderful that your boyfriend is willing to eat gluten free. I've never made my husband eat gluten free and have had no problems with cross contamination ect because he is very careful not to gluten me. He probably eats 50% gluten free at home though because its often easier that way than making two separate dishes. He will often have his bread... -
ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?
ksymonds84 replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten free for almost 3 years now. I was very diligent the first couple of years with pans ect. I still am very careful but have relaxed a lot. With every Celiac you will hear different symptoms and levels of sensitivity ect. I have a celiac friend who if accidentally gets croutons on her salad, she will just pick them off and eat the same... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results Advice
ksymonds84 replied to dermgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it were me and I could handle it, I would keep eating at least one piece of gluten bread a day to get the most accurate diagnoses. Having said that, I caved in two weeks before my biopsy because the pain and bloating were killing me. Thanks goodness it was still enough to get my answer. However; It is still possible to get a false negative from the biopsy... -

ARCHIVED Glutino Pretzels
ksymonds84 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I want to make a chex mix to take on the plane with me for our trip to Florida next week. I was reading the ingredients of glutino pretzels and it says contains soy. The only soy I see in the ingredients is soy lecithin which I have been okay with lately. Another ingredient is cellulose gum could this also be soy? In short, does anyone else with a soy... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Tortilla Out There That Can Bend?
ksymonds84 replied to runningcrazy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I totally agree with you Glamour they are like cardboard to me as well when I tried using them as a wrap. Don't toss them out yet! I've found they make excellent quick pizzas. I first fry them in hot canola oil to get crunchy (could do olive oil too) on both sides, then I put pizza toppings and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes (375). My daughter likes...
