ARCHIVED Spelt?
kareng replied to Skittles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That isn't true. Spelt is wheat. Do you have some scientific sources for this assertion? Please provide reputable sources according to forum rules. A gluten-free diet means avoiding all foods that contain wheat (including spelt, triticale, and kamut), rye, and barley, and their derivatives. ARCHIVED Recommendation For Severe Cases?
kareng replied to neal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In all seriousness. I'm not sure what you have a severe case of? Seems like if it was related to gluten, you would stop eating gluten. Since you have been eating gluten, why not just get tested? Maybe if you had a diagnosis you would take eating gluten-free seriously? -

ARCHIVED Need To Figure Out What In My Makeup I'm Allergic To
kareng replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You really need to talk to the allergist about this. I'm assuming she tested you for milk as a food not an environmental allergen. Meaning, you are allergic to it if you eat it, not if a drop touches your foot or your poor husband uses a little in his coffee. I still don't understand the lipstick. If you think it gave you hives, stop using it! And... -
ARCHIVED Pizza Dough Already Mixed
kareng replied to GlutenStinks15's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
we like these box mixes: Open Original Shared Link I have used the focaccia and the pizza dough ones. I don't put the cheese in the dough. I usually add some Italian seasonings & maybe garlic powder. The easiest way to do these is stir them mostly together, then hand knead a couple of minutes until they feel like they are evenly smooth.... -
ARCHIVED Need To Figure Out What In My Makeup I'm Allergic To
kareng replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you just talking about a one time thing? You used the lipstick, it caused hives, so you stopped using the lipstick and the hives go away in a few days? That would show there might be something in that lipstick. If you are having new hives weeks or months later, that is not the lipstick (unless you keep using it). I have never heard of someone... -
ARCHIVED I Am Breathing Easier At Just Over A Year Gluten Free!

ARCHIVED gluten-free Grocery Store In Chicago Near....

She is going to be at the University of Chicago? Maybe call or email the Celiac center there? They are also right on the rail and bus routes so that might work, too. Open Original Shared Link -

Right. And the guacamole is gluten-free, too. Someone was saying it had gluten. According to their website, it is gluten-free. It looks like you are saying the guac was gluten-free but maybe you were just repeating another poster?- 34 replies

ARCHIVED Cleaning What I've Got To Prevent Cross-Contamination
kareng replied to Lightforth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like what you are trying to do is raise $100 for a gluten-free pan or two, spoons, toaster, cutting board, colander, etc. You might want to cut out convince foods like frozen breakfast sandwiches and eating out. You can make scrambled eggs in muffin trays ( for hub so they don't have to be gluten-free) . Add the bacon and cheese to scrambled... -

ARCHIVED Processed Gluten Free
kareng replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think noodles are OK. The Tinkyada ones are just rice and water. Really...all food we buy is "processed" in some way. The point of the "no processed food" diet is to eat foods without all the "extras". There are some very good "processed" foods you can use sometimes. Its very hard to travel without a few things like Lara bars or Go Picnics. It... -
ARCHIVED Unexpected Hospital Stay And Dietary Nightmare
kareng replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Write 2 letters. First write the one where you tell them what f%&*ing idiots they are and accuse them of trying to murder you. Then write and send the calmer one. I should have said that you need to put that you would like a response to your complaint of their serious medical negligence. If you don't hear a response within a week or 10 days, I... -
As much as I like that school ( my son goes there) the list of foods to avoid is a bit odd. Frosting and salad dressing? Many are labelled gluten-free. Maybe they should be on a list of " read the ingredients carefully"?

ARCHIVED Cleaning What I've Got To Prevent Cross-Contamination
kareng replied to Lightforth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have gotten cutting mats 2 for a dollar at the dollar store. But you could always cut on a clean plate. Wash things really well. Use foil or parchment paper. Don't put anything on the counter. Really can't think you would want to put food on that old grout anyway. -
Of course you are a mean mom! Anytime we don't do what they want, we are mean. That has nothing to do with this. You are married to a disgusting and cheap man! That's what this is about. You don't eat food you find. It could be tampered with but, more realistically, it could have been peed on by a dog and dried, picked up and carried around by a dog,...

Making a list of questions for her might be a good idea. I know people with food allergies and there seems to be a range of reactions. For instance, my BIL is actually allergic to wheat (not a Celiac). He doesn't worry about the small amount he might get by taking a burger off a bun or an accidental piece of breading in his fries. The small amount doesn...

ARCHIVED Unexpected Hospital Stay And Dietary Nightmare
kareng replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having worked in hospitals and having to deal with complaints at times: I would suggest you write a nice, calm and concise letter. I suggest you google the hospital or call and get the actual name of these people you will send the letter to (In separate envelopes)- The hospital attorney (usually one on staff of a large hospital or group of hospitals...
