The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
kareng replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Heard from the college boy last night. His chocolate milk kit Xmas gift was a big hit. They only have plain milk at his frat. I got him this type of bottle and Nesquik chocolate syrup. http://www.dietdirect.com/blender-bottle-20oz-sundesa-shaker-bottle.html -
ARCHIVED Stiff And Achy Is This Just Part Of It?
kareng replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been feeling like that. I started taking a beginner yoga for people with physical challenges. And I have been exercising more and my joint pain and stiffness seems to be going away. -
Right now, I just have Celiac (cross my fingers, etc). Pos blood & biopsy - 3 years

ARCHIVED A Thought On Supplements
kareng replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here was my regular doctors thoughts on it and I think, for me , it made sense. You have 16-20 feet of small intestine. It is unlikely that every square inch is too damaged to absorb anything. celiac tends to be " patchy". Even if only 20% of your intestines are absorbing nutrients, you want to make sure that 20% always has some to absorb. There are... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Loathe Jeans?
kareng replied to GFreeMO's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I bet you look great in yoga pants, Tiffany. I do not! I do wear jeans but it is hard to find some that are comfortable. It doesn't matter what size I am. MO - what do you wear instead of jeans? I know you could wear dresses but do you garden or clean the house in them? -
ARCHIVED Opinions Requested..gastro Doc Sent Me A Letter...
kareng replied to designerstubble's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here's where they get this idea that it takes 7-10 days ( that's what my GI said) : When my hub had a colonoscopy and they removed a polyp, they said it takes 7- 10 days to grow the little scraped place back. What they aren't taking into account with Celiac is that, just because you stop eating gluten-free, your body may still make the antibodies for... -
ARCHIVED Opinions Requested..gastro Doc Sent Me A Letter...
kareng replied to designerstubble's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't post those links to scare you or say you will never heal. They do say many or most take longer to heal. I thought you could use that for your doctor. I would say it takes at least 3 months to really get good at the gluten-free diet. You have to find things you think are fine but aren't, replace your butter tubs, toasters, teach others to be... -

A doctor won't take "but the forum said" seriously. Give him info from actual medical experts. Open Original Shared Link "8. Repeat duodenal biopsy A repeat biopsy is frequently performed to assess response to the diet, though it is not necessary for conformation of the diagnosis of celiac disease. Some experts recommend a biopsy during the first... -

JUst because it bothers you, doesn't mean it has gluten. Some of the artificial sweeteners make my stomach hurt and bloat. -

ARCHIVED What Do You Do At The Hospital?
kareng replied to kristenloeh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got the little lunch crockpot. One reason was, if I had to go to the hospital, it would be easy for my family to bring me some Progresso gluten-free soup or some chicken broth from home in the morning. It would be hot for my lunch while they were at work or school. I would definitely check with the hospital first. Many hospitals have this "super broth... -
ARCHIVED Explanation Of Biopsy?
kareng replied to Sarahsmile416's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ideally, a surgeon or GI would make his procedure/operation report right after the procedure, while its fresh in his mind. Then he would either add an addendum to the report to include the path findings, or a separate "discharge summary" or a note that sums it all up. With these outpatient type prodecures, this final note might not be as formal as the... -
ARCHIVED Explanation Of Biopsy?
kareng replied to Sarahsmile416's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ask the doctor for a copy of it. It will tell you if he even did a biopsy. My GI claimed he biopsied something but there was no path report for it so I know he didn't. When I worked in health care, there are plenty of surgeons that do not list what was found on the path report. Partially because an operation/ procedure report is done before the pathology... -

ARCHIVED Explanation Of Biopsy?
kareng replied to Sarahsmile416's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That sounds like the doctors procedure report? Get a copy of the pathology report. See if the pathologist saw any evidence of Celiac. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do At The Hospital?
kareng replied to kristenloeh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Honestly, we have a hospital here that thinks a diet for someone with high blood sugar is anything they want except dessert. I would have someone bring my food and pack some food. The last thing you need is diarrhea or migraines from a glutening. Maybe you live in an area that is gluten aware? I thought you said Portland in another post? The hospital... -

ARCHIVED No Celiac
kareng replied to razzle51's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You know, Mo....I sort of thought that at first, too. But then I thought....We always want to know what the results are with the people we help on here....maybe he/she just thought we would like to know that. And, who among us wouldn't like to not have Celiac? Of course, Celiac is a definitive answer for why someone feels ill. Now this poor person... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Couponing And Hoarders (Shows)
kareng replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Julie - I always wondered how they did some of this. I have never seen a store that would give you money back. If it was a coupon for 50 cents off and the item was on a special for 40 cents, they don't give the difference back to you. Lots of stores don't let you use more than 1 coupon on an item, either. I have been guilty of going thru the Walmart... -
ARCHIVED Possible Toaster Solution
kareng replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wrapping or toastit bags are great when travelling. I know people who get them and don't eat gluten-free. They hate the dirty toasters at the hotel breakfast. They were advertised many, many years ago as a way for college kids to re-heat pizza.. Back in the day we were allowed a toaster in our rooms, before microwaves. -
Thanks for posting this I saw your pictures the other day. They have one of these in Ft Collins, Co where my son goes to school. We thought about going. It is very pricey and we were taking the 4 of us and a couple of other boys. I hope they move east a bit and put one in KC. It would be a great place for my hub & I to go. Let me add the link...

My salon isn't full of hairspray in the air but it is more spacious than some. I don't know how complicated a hair cut you want. You look like you have a lot of pretty & long hair from your previous picture. There are women barbers that cut male & female hair at my boys barber shop. They cut layers, etc without all the spraying. They have gel...

ARCHIVED Extreme Couponing And Hoarders (Shows)
kareng replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
These couponers that keep 1000 bottles of mouthwash are hoarders, too. I saw an episode where a guy had to have the Chex cereal delivered by a truck on pallets to his house. He got it for $200. Then, he and his friends loaded into their cars & took it to a food pantry! That was a good one. Got called away while posting. I notice these couponers...
