ARCHIVED Thyroid Antibodies Have Disappeared
pricklypear1971 replied to Happyw5's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The low body temp, exhaustion, cold, heavy cycles, etc. are symptoms of adrenal or hormone imbalances that frequently accompany hypothyroidism. I understand your antibodies may be currently in the normal range; however, if a certain amount if damage was done to your thyroid you will need to address it, along with adrenals, to feel better. I do understand... -
Antihistamines also suppress the immune system - so if you are having autoimmune symptoms it could relieve some of them. Last winter I was glutened one two many times and went into a tailspin, plus juniper/cedar season...and after taking antihistimes for a few days I could feel the difference. I had to continue very low doses (half adult dose every other...

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
pricklypear1971 replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Please ensure the doctor runs a full panel. Tsh is NOT enough. You need to know if you have thyroid antibodies, and your t3/4 levels. Insist on it.- 13 replies

ARCHIVED celiac disease Symptoms Coming Back
pricklypear1971 replied to shorebird's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As time goes on, some people get more sensitive. That could be it. You could have developed another food sensitivity, some do. My sneaking suspicion is thyroid or another AI disease - perhaps triggered by pregnancy/childbirth/motherhood. Docs like to chalk exhaustion, etc. up to motherhood but truth is motherhood is a trigger for AI diseases and they hide...- 13 replies

ARCHIVED Endoscopy - Affect On Symptoms
pricklypear1971 replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My son had very negative behavioral/emotional reactions for a month+ after his endoscopy. Funny enough, he mostly stopped complaining of stomach upset, c, d, etc. But the behavior was definite. Even his teacher noticed. We think it was a reaction to the anasthesia. He was a little "shocky" post procedure. The chills, chattering. Not unusual or unheard... -
Revoke it. Now. In writing. Hand copies to all pertinent parties - principal, nurse, doctors. I'd also write a letter to all saying child is not allowed to speak to any of them regarding this matter without a parent present. And quite frankly, I'd get an attorney. I know it sounds a bit much but some of these school districts are nightmares - too busy trying...

ARCHIVED Sex Drive After Going Gluten Free
pricklypear1971 replied to soulcurrent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
AI diseases take a toll on many systems- including hormones. Personally, my estrogen/progesterone/testosterone were (are?) out of whack, which affects libido. Have they checked your testosterone/progesterone/estrogen? Yes, men have estrogen and progesterone. I don't know why going gluten-free can cause such a shift in other body systems, or cause things... -
ARCHIVED Help Refining My Gingersnap Recipe
pricklypear1971 replied to Wheatfreeleeshy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I really don't have experience baking with corn starch. I just haven't tried it. As far as weighing flours go, I find my flour mixes turn out better (thus my baked goods) if I weigh the flours going into the mix. Also, when converting a recipe to gluten-free grains I find weight works better. So, if I'm replacing 1c of wheat flour with gluten-free...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Ttg Won't Decrease
pricklypear1971 replied to Hermom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ttg can also be elevated from other AI diseases. She could be developing something like Hashimoto's thyroiditis, etc. I know she appears healthy (and she probably is); however, the test could be picking up the development. However, the most likely culprit is gluten. She could be getting cc'd at school, or as above posters say, it could be that she is more...- 25 replies

ARCHIVED Help! I Need A No Salt, High Iron, Gluten Free Recipe
pricklypear1971 replied to momtok&m's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'd grill or roast meat - leave the no salt person's piece without salt and season the rest. Meat is high in iron, right? I'd think shrimp would run the risk of high salt-ask the person if its ok for them. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Keep A Mixed Kitchen Without Glutening Your Child?
pricklypear1971 replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are the only one that truly touches the food and/or the other ones know the rules and strictly adhere to them (you too). It can be done. My son is just not capable. For now. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Keep A Mixed Kitchen Without Glutening Your Child?
pricklypear1971 replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I cringe at bread. Yes, crumbs. I would try, if you keep gluteny bread, to make them eat it outside. That's my rule. That said and done, they decided that was too much of a bother and now I don't bring it in the house. I would guess that they are tracking it around the house - kids especially. They just do it. And they get in it when you don't know about... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Results: Opinions Needed
pricklypear1971 replied to mark77nj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'll post more later but I can say that fevers are not unusual for me with bad allergy attacks (cedar/juniper) AND they became normal with my last few big breakouts of dermatitis herpetiformis. DH is a celiac skin rash - a dx of DH is a celiac dx. That said, visit the DH section on this board. That may not be eczema. Or it may be eczema caused by gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help?! For Post-Diagnosis: Mayo Vs Columbia Vs Chicago, Etc. - How Do You Choose Which Specialist To Visit?
pricklypear1971 replied to em80's topic in Doctors
And a combo of SIBO with another AI disease could account for elevated antibodies on one gluten blood test (sorry, brain is drawing blank...Ttg?). But most likely, it's gluten. Somewhere.- 32 replies

ARCHIVED As A Celiac, Do You Notice Shorter Or Longer Recovery From Stomach Flu?
pricklypear1971 replied to laurielikesthis's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had one in the fall and it took forever to recover. I got to feeling "normal" after a month but it took 3 months to be able to start taking my vitamins/supplaments again. My gi tract just couldn't take it. I wasnt the only one. My son had the bug and our recoveries were about the same. He doesn't take big supplament doses, though. Sometimes it takes... -
Some people have luck with integrative medical groups. I see a naturapath. I started with one, lasted for a year and then it started getting nutty. So I looked for a new "whatever". Ended up with another nd that was an RN and teaches at a major university medical/nursing school. Much better to have that background. I've tried DO's - saw nothing that...

ARCHIVED Favorite - Best Cold Cuts And Chips
pricklypear1971 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kettle and Zapps!!!! And don't get me going in Tostitos. Unlike Boars Head and Trader Joes cold cuts. TJ's carries some Spanish and Italian combo meat packs marked gluten-free. Awesome. -
Broths, stocks, soups. I suggest making them. Boiled/broiled/roasted meats. Thoroughly cooked fruits and veggies.

ARCHIVED Two Doctors, Two Diagnoses
pricklypear1971 replied to Dnwestover's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There's a good chance only one celiac blood test was run. There are several. Get the lab results and see. In the interim, stay on gluten and if the results are missing tests, request they are run ASAP. Then get off gluten. -

ARCHIVED Silly Question
pricklypear1971 replied to designerstubble's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. Kiss him on the cheek until he brushes his teeth. Ditto for eating gluten. If mine eats a gluten-free meal after the gluten, and it's been at least two hours I generally don't worry about it. But he's pretty conscientious about remembering to brush. And don't share food, utensils, or glasses along the same guideline. -
ARCHIVED Wondering About My Two Oldest
pricklypear1971 replied to brandyburl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I suggest you get everyone tested before going gluten-free. If your pcp refuses, insist. If that fails there are online labs you can order the labs from (you go to a local lab for the draw). You will need school support for the gluten-free diet there. Usually, that's a doctor's note. -
ARCHIVED Do You Get Colds And Flu Over And Over?
pricklypear1971 replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last year I seemed to catch mild versions of everything my husband and son brought home. This year not as much. I swear I get a mild version (milder than sick family members), recover, then it hits hard a few days later. Feels like two bugs but it happens like that more often than not so I'm thinking its a pattern for me. -
ARCHIVED Tsh Is 2.6 And My Doc Says It's Normal
pricklypear1971 replied to gatita's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The thing to remember is that IH doesn't have tpo antibodies (Hashimotos). You don't yet know if you do. There's a difference between the two. Hashis will probably need treatment. Non AI thyroid issues can resolve. Hashis doesn't go away...it can be controlled. It doesn't go away. So, first, find out if you have thyroid antibodies. I understand you... -
ARCHIVED Hypo/and Hyper Thyroid Symptoms
pricklypear1971 replied to Happyw5's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No. What you need is prescription thyroid meds. You must find a new doctor. You need free t3/t4 tests to see how your hormones are doing, and even if those are normalish you deserve a trial on thyroid meds. You have several symptoms including depression serious enough your doctor thought meds were warranted, a family history and thyroid antibodies. That...
