ARCHIVED Test results are confusing
squirmingitch replied to Hannahrae1217's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know how old you are or if you have kids or what. If you're past child bearing & don't have any kids then I could say just go gluten free & don't look back but if you have kids or plan on having them, they will need testing every 2 years or sooner if symptoms present. it is MUCH easier to get them tested if you have an official dx. Soooooooooooo... -
ARCHIVED Test results are confusing
squirmingitch replied to Hannahrae1217's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Were you eating gluten every day for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the endoscopy? How many biopsies did the doc take? You should have a minimum of 6. -

ARCHIVED Starting Out On A gluten-free Diet
squirmingitch replied to SuzieQ1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Make sure they take a minimum of 6 biopsies!!!! The intestine is the size of a tennis court if you were to lay it all out flat so it's imperative they take 6 biopsies otherwise they can miss damage due to the sheer vastness. -

ARCHIVED Blood work and ultrasound results came back.
squirmingitch replied to Victor10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Victor, Victor, we've told you before NOT to quit eating gluten until ALL testing is done but you did not listen. Instead you were obsessed with looking up horror stories of cancer & spleens & anything else you could find that was super dramatic. HERE: Open Original Shared Link It says: Prior to an endoscopic biopsy we recommend 2 weeks of eating... -
ARCHIVED Navigating Diagnostic Process--GI Doc Troubles
squirmingitch replied to SarahMK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you're doing the right thing Sarah. I think your PC doc will be reasonable especially knowing the history of all that happened. Print out copies of recommendations from the U of Chicago Celiac Disease Center Open Original Shared Link pertaining to the # of biopsies and needing to be eating gluten for the endoscopy (gluten challenge) etc... and take... -
ARCHIVED Is this the 'gluten flu' or gluten withdrawel?
squirmingitch replied to BarryC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Bartful but it also sounds like you could be going through withdrawal but it is pretty late in the game for gluten withdrawal. Depends on how frequently you got glutened. -
ARCHIVED Help identify if I have DH please.
squirmingitch replied to Theo33's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Oh, & celiacs who have dh generally don't have the GI issues that "regular" celiacs do & if we do, then we tend to have milder GI symptoms. And when you cut gluten for a month last year -- no, that was probably not long enough but I bet you only thought you had cut out gluten. It's not as simple as only eating meat, veggies & fruit. There are... -
ARCHIVED Help identify if I have DH please.
squirmingitch replied to Theo33's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I just can't see how any doctor thinks this is a contact reaction. Make sure you haven't had any oral steroids or steroid shots in the 2 months prior to a dh biopsy. And read thread after thread after thread on this section. Unless you get really lucky with a derm, you're going to have to INSIST they do the biopsy & make sure you watch them so they... -
ARCHIVED Help identify if I have DH please.
squirmingitch replied to Theo33's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Theo it is so hard to tell from photos. However, dh does present bilaterally & is itchy as all get out. Elbows, knees are what most derms associate with dh although dh can & does present anywhere on the body. Derms fail to read past elbows & knees & thus fail to "get" that it can present anywhere. You need a new derm. You need to have a dh... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease
squirmingitch replied to Mrs.Farhan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mrs. Farhan, what country are you in? I Googled Aciolic & couldn't find any drug with that name. Apparently Quinox is Ciprofloxacin which is an antibiotic and Prednisolon is a steroid (Prednisone here in the US) and this is Buscopan: Open Original Shared Link Did the doctor tell you that he needs to eat strict gluten free? ARCHIVED New to testing/results
squirmingitch replied to Missmelx4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mel, I would be curious to know which tests were done for your celiac blood panel. Can you get them, post them along with the ranges for them? They may not have done a full celiac panel on you is why I'm wondering. You sure sound celiac. And I hope he took 6 biopsies. -
Nelly, how long have you been gluten free?

ARCHIVED Please! How do I make it stop?!
squirmingitch replied to Victor10's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, when I was having this kind of bloat before I knew I had celiac I found that drinking prune juice really helped. Honest to goodness. I don't know how it works to break up the gas bubble but it worked for me. It's like this humongous gas bubble is sitting in there taking up all the available room. You literally feel like you will quite simply explode... -
ARCHIVED Pure Oats causing Neurological Problems?
squirmingitch replied to cristiana's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You're welcome. I don't think we will ever see an oat free designation. I don't know what ranking oats have on the allergen list but i don't imagine they're very high up there. -
ARCHIVED glad you're here
squirmingitch replied to CherylS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people find it helpful to eat the gluten before bed so that the worst effects occur overnight & they might not be so bad off at work the next day. It works for some & not for others. Worth a try though. When you get your results then come back here & read the Newbie 101 in the Coping section so you can learn how to keep yourself safe. There... -
