ARCHIVED Celiac Specialties (& Kinnikinnick Waffles)
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The 1st thing I did when I got to the Suffolk County Vendor Fair today, was go straight to the table where Celiac Specialties was set up. Donuts is probably the one thing I miss, and I heard there's were good. Well those people were not lying!! They are awesome. I tried the Kinnikinnick ones when I was first diagnosed and hated them. But these are incredible... -

ARCHIVED Do Other People's Comments Bother You?
jkmunchkin replied to NWLAX36Mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok that is flat out obnoxious. Now that I would be offended at. As far as people making comments, like most people have said, I'm not offended at all. I take it as they want to learn about it, which I think is really nice. My husband's family on the other hand are the densest people I have ever met when it comes to this. And no matter how many times I... -
ARCHIVED Mini Molton Lava Cakes
jkmunchkin replied to deena647's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The flourless chocolate cake from Roy's is the best molten lava cake. In the May issue of Gourmet, towards the begining of the issue they have an ad, and the RH Pg. has 4 perfed cards with recipes. One of them is for the flourless chocolate cake! -

Did you just use rice flour, or a flour mixture? -
ARCHIVED Everything Happens For A Reason
jkmunchkin replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is a really sweet story. And it just shows how just doing the smallest thing can make such a difference. You thought nothing of letting her borrow your phone but it was such a big thing for her. Like Cheri said, maybe the start of a great friendship. -
I think this article needed to add a sentence such as, "The majority of people who eat gluten free do so because of a diagnosis of celiac; which is an intolerance to wheat, barley or rye; so for them this is not the next fad diet." I agree it did make it sound like it was the newest fad which I don't think is the best thing, but like everyone has said...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Poptarts
jkmunchkin replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is the absolute freakiest thing!!! I didn't see this thread yesterday and actually had a dream last night about how much I would love a gluten free pop tart! I think it was the last thing I dreamed about because I woke up thinking about it. Weird! Yes so anyone that could come up with that, that would be fantastic! I think in my dream I was talking... -
ARCHIVED Amy's Soups
jkmunchkin replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never had the Amy's soups, but the last 2 times I had the frozen enchiladas I got sick. Not glutened, but I felt sick the rest of the day and had indigestion. The 1st time I figured maybe it was something else and a couple days later tried the other meal I had in the freezer. Same reaction. Personally I'm done with the Amy's meals. As for tomato... -

Thanks! I didn't think Duncan Hines was gluten free. Good to know. -
ARCHIVED Magazine's Article Concerning Gluten
jkmunchkin replied to JodiC's topic in Publications & Publicity
I happened to notice this at the checkout counter yesterday at the supermarket and was so angry! For starters the headline reads, "the hidden food allergy that may be making you fat" (or something to that affect). That alone is inaccurate! Celiac is not an allergy, it is an intolerance. And we all know that having celiac doesn't necessarily mean you are fat... -
Yeah they reopened awhile ago; and it's as fabulous as always!

ARCHIVED Risotteria - My Favorite !
jkmunchkin replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
OMG they read my mind!! That is exactly what I am craving right now. I know where I'm going for lunch tomorrow! -
This was my favorite sandwich place also. I know they make salads, but I'd feel safer getting a salad someplace else.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Yankee Stadium
jkmunchkin replied to nothungry's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Not sure about the ice cream but if it's Carvel then it's ok. The popcorn should be ok. I wouldn't get the fries since I'm not sure what else they might put in the fryers. Unfortunately the hot dogs are Nathan's which are not gluten free. Last time I went there I had cotton candy and cracker jacks. Definately try and eat something before you go. Unfortunately... -

jkmunchkin replied to tabasco32's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't seen these but I have heard great things about the new gluten free Teff Tortillas from La Tortilla Factory. I might take a walk to a health food store during lunch tomorrow to pick them up and give them a try. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Botox And/or Collagen?
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Before everyone jumps all over me and gives their views on cosmetic surgery, let me say I am not thinking of getting botox or collagen. I'm still in my 20's. I was just wondering after I recently came across a new product from a skin care line that is an intensive wrinkle reducer. I started reading the ingredients, and one of the first few ingredients... -
ARCHIVED I've Started Watching The Food Network
jkmunchkin replied to BamBam's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love the Food Network!! I think my husband has a crush on Giada. hehe! Racheal Ray makes some good stuff, but I just find her to annoying to watch. Does she have to have an orgasm everytime she eats something!! LOL! -
I've eaten at the Roy's in Naples, Maui and Hawaii - and they are wonderful! Every location has been very knowledgable, and practically bend over backwards to accomodate. The souffle is incredible. We actually got the recipe and DH will make it every so often at home. They are actually owned by the same corporation that owns Outback, Bonefish Grill,...

ARCHIVED The Grainless Baker
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I already was in love with the graham crackers from The Grainless Baker, but I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and trying a whole bunch of their products on Saturday when they were having a sampling at a store in New Caanan, CT. I seriously don't think they make anything that is less than perfect!! Everything I tried was so good I couldn't stop... -

ARCHIVED Royal Carribbean Is Great!
jkmunchkin replied to gaynonna's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I actually just decided yesterday that I'm going to go on a RC cruise in August. I was talking to my parents last weekend and they mentioned they were going. Half joking I said, maybe we'll come; and well now we're gonna go too!! I knew that if you emailed them 45 days ahead of time they would have gluten free options for you, but from the sounds of... -

ARCHIVED Best Cake Mixes
jkmunchkin replied to delawaregirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
For chocolate cake definately Namaste. It's the absolute best. I actually like it better than cake from scratch. Open Original Shared Link I have yet to try a yellow cake mix, but I love Annalise Robert's recipe for yellow cake. It's in her book Gluten Free Baking Classics.
