  1. Welcome! No one can say for sure that a positive celiac blood test is going to confirm celiac disease. Some folks skip the endoscopy for various reasons (health, financial, long wait times in some countries, etc.), but help to confirm with a trial Gluten free diet. The endoscopy remains the "gold standard" by most celiac experts. Note that your...
  2. What are your goals and expectations in planning this trip? What do you think the celiac experts are going to tell you? You have celiac disease (biopsy confirmed with partial villi blunting). I am assuming that you had elevated celiac antibodies. You were diagnosed about three to four months ago and have glutened yourself a few times since going...
  3. Wait. Wait for the six months to pass before getting re-tested. It takes time to heal. Time to master the diet. Time to recover from a mishap (it happens to the best of us). How much time? Give yourself two years before freaking out. Seriously. You have a better chance dying from plain old heart disease than get refractory celiac disease....
  4. Did your doctor give you the diet? Here it is buried in this report: Open Original Shared Link I would say that based on the diet, spices are out, unless you grow them yourselves. Stick to plain foods. For example, I can not tolerate chili peppers. So, I cook a batch of shredded park without seasonings. The rest of my family can add chilis...
  5. I have bought nuts from other suppliers like these black walnuts that only process their nuts (no fancy flavorings...just these black walnuts): Open Original Shared Link You do need to confirm that nuts are not processed on equipment shared with wheat if they are not certified gluten-free or in a shell by calling. So, mostly, being lazy, I just...
  6. Welcome! It looks like your daughter is on her way to a celiac diagnosis. Everyone is different, but I think you will have to wait until the biopsies come back from the Pathologist. My endoscopy looked fine visually, yet my biopsies revealed intestinal damage (the villi are microscopic!) The important thing at this point is that she must still be...
  7. Welcome Tanya! I know you must be suffering so! Do you know if this is a celiac rash? I do not have DH, but many of our members do. Here is more information and possible treatment: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  8. I compost. I never add any bread products (even gluten-free) to my bin. Why? Critters. Yep, rats, raccoons, oppossums..... You can not get glutened from it, unless you eat or swallow it. Just wash your veggies.
  9. I buy nuts in a shell, scrub them and eat them. I do buy from Nuts.com too when I am too lazy to open nuts myself!
  10. I can not speak for mushrooms, but I live in California. Strawberry fields are everywhere. All the commercial farmers use plastic. We even pick them ourselves on several farms. No straw. What I would be more concerned about is pesticides. Strawberries are ranked number 1 for the most contamination. This is one fruit that you might want to eat...
  11. Let me add that this is a "want-be-journalist" who is trying to make a living. (Kudos for her!). You will note that she is selling you a few products. Is it because she genuinely thinks they are the best products on the earth or she's getting compensated? Want to improve your dry skin? Get off the low fat craze and eat some good healthy fats and...
  12. I say piece of mind is priceless. Why worry? My foundation (a mineral) is gluten free as is my lipstick, sunscreen and hand lotion. I honestly know that I would have to injest a lot of lipstick ? in order to get a gluten reaction (per GlutenFreeWatchDog, Trish Thompson). But I would rather not worry. I am willing to PAY extra for it. If a product...
  13. Just keep doing what you are doing. Honestly, I find the topic fascinating. I think having celiac disease or not, food manufacturers need to accountable for the items that they use to put in food and process it. Here is why I am not freaking out. We have too many members who eat processed foods and they have blood tests and endoscopies showing that...
  14. Welcome! Here is information about testing for celiac disease, but.....you HAVE to be consuming gluten daily or all tests will be negative. ? http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/
  15. Members have told you that DH is a manifestation of celiac disease. If you had a skin biopsy by two clinics and they told you it was DH, then you have celiac disease which means that you have to follow a STRICT gluten free diet. Why the negative blood tests? Because a big chunk (can not recall the number) of DH suffers test negative. I do not personally...
  16. I can not help you except to offer some emotional support. You are not crazy! You can get glutened on a farm. Here is a study: Open Original Shared Link This topic has come up before: Hugs!
  17. Here is the current See's gluten free statement: Open Original Shared Link So, it is not certified gluten-free, but all the ingredients are gluten free. We eat See's! But I do not eat it once the box has been opened and all my gluten-eating nieces and nephews touch the candy searching for their favorite pieces while at parties. Of course...
  18. Yep, I would listen to your body. You are in the process of healing. Since it is hard to determine exactly what your body is seeking (in terms of nutritients), focus on a well-rounded diet and give it time (few months). Eat until you are full and don't stuff yourself as even non-celiacs experience bloating after a huge holiday meal! Go easy on the rice...
  19. Thyroid disorders are common with those who have celiac disease. Being hypothyroid can cause fatigue. Anemia is another cause for fatigue and is very common for this with celiac disease. Have those two issues been ruled out?
  20. No, the TTG antibodies are measured in the blood. Yes, it is possible to have a negative EMA. It is possible to be negative on ALL the celiac antibodies tests. A celiac diagnosis can be confirmed with biopsies of the small intestine (looking for villi damage). Constipation can be a symptom of celiac disease. I know it is hard to wait. I waited...
  21. Ugh! This is a topic that should addressed in a separate thread (just so we don't hijack this thread). Why? There is a lot to talk about! I read your links and then to a commercial site selling this "glue". While I had heard about gluing cuts of meat together, I did not know they used it in dairy and bakery products -- especially gluten free breads. ...
  22. @Ginger1012, are you feeling better?
  23. I would not use these as prevention, but maybe they would help a post-glutening. In my case, I travel with lactose tablets and digestive enzymes. When glutened, I become lactose intolerant again. Would hate to miss out on some gelato. Do not forget any meds you normally take too.
  24. Those travel cards work well even at local markets or grocery stores. For example, we were in Poland and had a hard time reading some labels (unlike other EU countries), store employees were so helpful after reading our card in Polish. Searching for restaurants "celiac friendly" was helpful too. Pharmacies carry some gluten free things too. Handy...
