  1. What about other hormones, like estrogen, progestrone? That can cause fatigue, etc. Even though you have your ovaries, things tend to slow down. I read that they barely function at about two years per a hysterectomy. Nice to have even a little though..... Are you on HRT? That can make a big difference in how you feel. Waking to night sweats is very...
  2. Raven is right. The size of your small intestines is about the size of a tennis court. Easy to miss a damaged spot. I think the proof is also in your response to the gluten-free diet. Please do not accept an IBS diagnosis (aka "I Be Stumped!").
  3. Make sure that she remains hydrated and that the prep drugs are geared for her weight. A soft toilet seat is something that I recall wishing for...... Oh, I do not know about Gummies, but jello must be green or yellow. No red colors. I lived on that and gluten-free chicken broth! Not sure how much energy she will have to swim in the morning. She is...
  4. I hope all goes well!
  5. Well, I understand your frustration, but I am thankful about the gluten-free fad. I have been only gluten-free for 2 years, but hubby has been for 14. There are so many products available and labeling is much clearer than 14 years ago. Hubby says he gets less glutened as a result. He can at least travel and grab gluten-free foods and not starve! Mind...
  6. I do not know about such a forum. About 60% of the world's population has a form of lactose intolerance after infancy. Here is a government link: Open Original Shared Link Chances are you have lactose intolerance since the enzymes to digest lactose (milk sugar) are released from the very tips of intestinal villi. Those are typically damaged from celiac...
  7. Wow, it never ceases to amaze me what this disease can do to a person. The symptoms are so varied!
  8. He is SO cute! I am so sorry for the loss of your old darling. I am afraid i might be in your situation soon. My lab is almost twelve and she is full of lumps and bumps that appeared this year. I have told the vet that I do not want to know.....but we both know. Trying to make her last days happy.
  9. Welcome Vinny! Be sure to check out our Newbie 101 thread under the "coping section of this forum. It contains lots of valuable tips! I wish you well!
  10. I have no clue if it is related to celiac disease or not. I do not think there is one photo of my baby brother that did not have a wet stain on his pants when he was three and four. He could not be bothered to take time out to use the restroom. It did not bother him to be scolded by his older siblings. He was simply a busy little boy. He also did not...
  11. I stand my ground, Gemini. I never worked in chain restaurants. You would not believe what can happen in a kitchen. Do I still go out? Yes! But I never assume that food is prepared the same way I do at home. We travel and have eaten around the world, but we (hubby 14 years gluten-free and I am 2 years gluten-free) have been glutened -- in four star...
  12. Oh, celiac disease is usually caught via an endoscopy (through the mouth). I guess your Aunt's doctor managed to get all the way to the end of the small intestine. Lucky for her!
  13. Here's an explanation of tTG: Open Original Shared Link But, you need to look at your lab's ranges as many labs have different ranges. Your result was 74 and the normal range for your lab is between 0 and 19. Definitely positive! Again, the choice is yours whether to proceed with a firm diagnosis or not. I wish you well!
  14. We are not doctors, but it looks like you have celiac disease. I do not know what the first test is "Celiac Disease Panel" but it is positive. The next step is usually an endoscopy that includes about six biopsies. But if you do not have insurance you can choose to go gluten free now or wait until you have insurance and get the endoscopy but you would...
  15. Still thinking about dinner. For a lazy Sunday lunch we made nachos in the oven! So easy. Used frozen defrosted shredded chicken (thanks, Costco) over refried beans, gluten-free chips, cheese and baked until hot and melted. Added salsa, quacamole, sour cream and green chili's. Yum! I think I will finish with another "fast food" dinner. Lettuce...
  16. In theory they should be gluten free, but that is not always the case. Someone in the kitchen puts in too much liquid (milk, water) and gets a soupy result. Then they add some flour to thicken it up and they never inform the head chef. Or they scoop potatoes from the chafing dish after they scoop some creamed corn or spinach. OOPs! Toss in some cheap...
  17. You are going to "wow" your employers during your internship and you are going to get a fabulous job offer from them! Better than the offers you will receive from your rounds of interviewing at school. It can really happen! It worked for me and it can happen to you! You go, girl!
  18. If the oven is dirty, bits could fall in. Just always cover your dish with a paper towel or one of those plate covers that can be washed. If your office oven is really dirty, complain to the management. We have rules posted and people are generally good about cleaning spills. The janitor service cleans it and the frig throughly every Friday night. All...
  19. My Grandma's parakeet could say about 20 words or sayings! He would come when called just like a dog. it was amazing. We always laughed when Lucky said, "Wanna a beer?" My advice Is to avoid a mirror in the cage. Let her bond to you! Save a mirror for an occasional treat. A bit off topic In this section of the forum, so I will quit!
  20. What is your definition of intestinal damage? I suppose you could have normal villi but a non-functioning gallbladder. That could cause fat malabsorption. You could have a big parasite (e.g. Hookworms) in your gut feasting on all your food and leaving you with little. Here is a government link regarding malabsorption syndrome: Open Original Shared...
  21. Glad to hear that! I was worried! Happy to hear about your parakeet. What's his name?
  22. I agree with Stephanie. Eat before you go and visit with them. Bring a few snacks just in case you get hungry. And enjoy their company!
  23. That is correct! I am thankful that my GI doctor ordered the complete celiac panel. When only one of the DGP tests was positive, he ordered the endoscopy to confirm my diagnosis. I had a colonoscopy too since that was the reason I went to the GI doctor (cancer screening because I hit 50 years old). Anemia was really my only symptom, so I was shocked...
  24. You had a positive on a Chron's test. Is your doctor followining through? Also, I think you need a complete celiac blood panel to rule out celiac disease. Having the genes for celiac disease (about 30% of the population has it, but only a tiny amount of people go on to develop celiac disease), just means you have the potential. My TTG tests were NOT...
