  1. I *know*! It's not like I expect him to diagnose her on the spot But, a mention, considering her symptoms would have been nice. One word on that show would go a long way toward awareness!
  2. Before I was diagnosed, my hemiglobin had gone down to 8. Six months after I began the diet, it was 14.6.
  3. I use potato starch, and it works just fine
  4. I actually have the show on now. When the woman with chronic D, purse full of Immodium, and has to constantly find a bathroom where ever she is said that it started with her last pregnancy--I was SURE he was gonna suggest Celiac or gluten intolerance as a possibility--but no! He mentioned lactose or wheat and that was it. It was the perfect opportunity...
  5. Nikki, I was wondering how Alan did--I even told my husband about you all! I'm glad that he sailed through it and was feeling good right after. Hunger is always a good sign Well, I guess now you just wait until Friday (again). Let me know Poor Felix! The little guy has really been through it! Good that he's comfortable. The story of...
  6. Julie-- On behalf of both my husband and I-- I'm perimenopausal, and these things can pop up at any moment. No rhyme or reason to it anymore
  7. Absolutely right! It's not enough to agree, they have to mean it

    ARCHIVED Gerd?

I had very similar symptoms to yours. I would get pain in my chest right up to the base of my neck. There was also belching, hiccups, and nausea. I also was afraid for a while that it was my heart and had the Holter Monitor and the echo cardiogram, which were fine. For me, this didn't start until I was gluten-free for several months. My allergist...
  9. Such great news! Glad you're feeling so much better
  10. I can't wait to finish up my Bare Escentuals mascara so I can try the Ecco Bella!
  11. Actually, with Celiac Disease, ingesting gluten triggers an autoimmune response in which the body attacks and damages the small intestine. The gluten clears the body, but the autoimmune reaction can last for weeks, even if the symptoms don't last that long. Some people feel ill for a day or two, others can be sick for a week or two.
  12. I've also stopped using canola oil. I use olive oil and the expeller pressed safflower oils, also. For baking, Spectrum Organic Shortening (unhydrogenated Palm oil). I am intolerant, so I can't use coconut oil. Carla--do you refrigerate your safflower oil? I don't use it often, so I only buy small bottles and keep them in the fridge. Guhlia...
  13. Reading through all of these stories, I remembered another noteworthy time! My husband, son and I were driving home after going out to lunch (pre dx). We stopped at a smallish grocery store on the way to get deli stuff for the week ahead. I was beginning not to feel well, so I told them to go in and get everything fast so we could get home. About 5 minutes...
  14. Hi Mona--welcome to the board! Dove will clearly list any gluten, so you're ok there. In addition to gluten-free products, I also choose products without SLS or other harsh detergents whenever possible. I don't have DH, but I do get itching and eczema. Some good products to look for--ShiKai Shampoo and Conditioner, Kiss My Face Olive Oil Bar...
  15. That sounds great, Ryan! Happy Thanksgiving
  16. I viewed it as a slideshow. Very impressive! You two should have your own HGTV show Enjoy the new room--it looks great
  17. Wow--I'd really like to see that! So...vinegar is the way to go? Susan, Your homemade Bumble Bars sound good! I could see myself eating it by the fistfuls out of the bowl!
  18. I guess I'm old fashioned (or maybe just old ), but I think it's best to wait until the child is showing some interest. I only have experience with boys. My first was about 3. As soon as it was his idea, it went pretty smoothly--day and nitetime. My second was more like 3 1/2. He was fine pretty quickly during the day, but took much longer at night...
  19. I don't think I ever look "painted up" either.
  20. Mine is coming back from South Dakota this evening! Been gone all week
  21. Our poor guys are having a tough time today Even Andrea's little one!
  22. Hi Amanda, That exact thing happens to me occasionaly, too. Actually, in the last 16 months since I've been gluten-free, nothing I see in there surprises me anymore That wasn't very gross--I was expecting much worse from the thread title!
  23. Rice Guy-- I also think about that possibility. Especially the kind of glue on bottles (and other things) that stretches when you pull it off. I'm glad that it's not just me who wonders about this. I'll be interested to know if you learn any more about this
  24. This is so funny that you should all mention this. Raw chicken smells different to me too! Not fishy, but I want to use the word 'strong'--hard to describe. I feel like an idiot having to always ask whoever's around--does this smell ok to you? The last several times, I've just ignored the smell--I guess thats just another side effect of all this...
  25. Good morning Beverly! I have to say that you had me at *maple sugar cotton candy* That sounds soooo good!
