  1. Great tip re: rice in the styrofoam/thermos! Great ideas. This makes me think perhaps for the water you could just run water through the coffee maker! I bet that would be hot enough and then insulate the rice and water with the styrofoam or thermos. I'm traveling a LOT in the next couple of months. Thanks for the new ideas.
  2. THANK YOU!!!
  3. What a wonderful and timely thread for me!!!! I'm so glad it was renewed today through a new post because I missed this in Sept. I'll be in Fairfax in late December!!! Great info!!! Thanks everyone!
  4. So I have a question that is a little off topic, but not too much. I started to pm the question but I thought others here may benefit from the answer as well. What happens when you hit the report button? Not too long ago, I meant to hit "reply" and hit "report" I'm pretty sure I cancelled/backed out of it, but I'm not really positive. I don't even...
  5. huge {{{{{HUG}}}}} I'll sit in the corner and stick my tongue out at the world with you......until you feel better and feel like being the proactive, gluten-free life coach again, which you do so very well.
  6. Woo Hoo! I will buy this book today for the biscuit recipe alone I, too, have been very unimpressed with various biscuit mixes, etc. AND being from the south, I gotta have a good biscuit at least once in awhile. Your description of other biscuits has been my frustration. Woo Hoo! Happy! Happy!
  7. Thank you, Richard. That's excellent information to have! Question: "Any plain, raw meat product is required to list a grain if it's added...." Would "plain" include a meat product that states it's soaked in chicken broth? The ones I eat may be the very same as we're talking about here. I don't know and don't have a package in. I'll have to look...
  8. YES!!!! Because you're scared to eat anything other than fresh fruit and lettuce....how true!
  9. We eat Pilgrim's Pride chicken fairly often with no problems. We get it at WalMart here. I'm curious though because while we've never had the specific type you're talking about, the ones we usually buy (boneless breast or tenderloin) say gluten free on the pkg...and really seem to be because I don't react. I'd be interested in knowing why this one type...
  10. Antibiotics have always caused debilitating stomach pain for me. The only one I've found that I can tolerate at all is Levaquin and then only if I have food before and after taking it. Fortuantely, Levaquin allows for that, but be aware, not everyone can take Levaquin. It can cause some very wild side-affects for some. You may find this list helpful...
  11. Happy Birthday! I hope it's exciting, fun-filled, and action-packed Hugs.
  12. I have a Treo 650 and love it....organizer, cell phone, celiac-related lists, and much more all in one device. If you just want it for a Clan Thompson list while shopping, you'll find excellent and much cheaper alternatives.
  13. Go, Girl!!! That's the attitude. AND, you'll find that as your intestine heals more and more, you'll even be able to eat in public places (your own food), and be perfectly fine. In December I will have been gluten free for a year...and all is right with my world
  14. Very nice. Many thanks for sharing.

ARCHIVED Dr Fine's 10 Step Program

I shop Wild Oats about once a month, but haven't seen these. Are they in the freezer? What brand? THANKS!
  16. Please, please let it be <20ppm, NOT <200ppm. When I eat food that measures less than <20ppm I never react; I cannot say the same for the greater allowance.
  17. still potato starch, but shortening, not butter. I'll try that next time I need cookies. Sounds delicious. Thanks!
  18. So how did the chocolate chips cookies turn out? I wish I had read your post about the spreading cookies sooner! Yesterday I made cookies from what must have been that very same recipe....YUMMY cookie dough, but the final product was more like one huge chocolate chip crepe (I had chilled the dough just because it worked for my schedule to mix them...
  19. Respectfully, I don't read it that way at all. I read that it is untested. Untested=may contain gluten; may not contain gluten. If a vendor says, "We don't know about some of our ingredients" then I am not willing to assume that risk. That would be Gluten Roulette.
  20. {{{{hug}}}} Nikki and Mommida. All of us who have lost a furry family member feel your pain. Regarding your husband's suggestion, you'll know when it's right. Consider adopting a furry friend soon. For me it was healing twice to soon give a home to a new dog in honor & memory of one that is no longer with me. That's me. You'll know if that...
  21. Dionek, that's fantastic information! Thank you! "...Also another charge in would be..." What's a "charge in"? Sorry that's not a term I'm familiar with. Ray's in the City sounds good....seafood....yum! I'm a Smokey Bones fan, too. I've had good luck at one about 50 miles from here. What do you order? When you check Clan Thompson's, it...
  22. Yes, I have "glutened" reactions from every corn tortilla I've tried. I've posted about my experiences 2-3 times already on these forums so I won't go back into it here. I am very wary of processed foods. One that really works for me is Hormel. They have a huge list of gluten free products and so far I have been fortunate to be able to eat them without...
  23. Which brand?....I want to double-cherck my spice rack!
  24. Thanks, everyone! Nisla, those all sound like great suggestions. If our schedules work out it would be great to have a bite and shop at Cafe Life. I'll pm you as it gets closer. My dh may be coming with me. If so, and your dh & kids are up for it, maybe we could all meet for a meal. Whatever works out. I'll let you know more about my schedule...
  25. I've read that there are other grains that contain gluten, for example corn. I don't know. I do know that the protein (gluten) in wheat, rye, barley, and oats is what we have to avoid. Oats may or may not be a problem depending on who you listen to. My g.i. told me last December to completely avoid it. I do.
