  1. I just ate Snack Pack pudding this week. It was labeled "gluten free". I think Jello brand puddings are gluten free as well but I haven't checked for myself... I haven't checked on Hershey's brand, but I thought I'd give you some options.
  2. Hi all- just an update - I went to the UCLA Celiac center last week to see their dietitian, Nancee Jaffe. Some background - I live in Texas and was diagnosed in 2016. I have seen 2 dietitians here who really didn't know that much about celiac. They have not been particularly helpful in providing evidenced based recommendations for the practicalities...
  3. It is great! It is a simple restaurant with a simple menu - just to grab a quick bite, but I eat there often. I haven't been to Maudie's since my diagnosis, but good to know in case I end up there one day....
  4. Do they need to be vegan? Adding real butter might help make them crispier? Or cutting back on the amount of oat flour (i.e. use 1 1/2 cups of oat flour but keep the rest of the recipe quantities the same)? Just some thoughts. Maybe use toasted walnuts which would be crunchier and less full of water which might cause steam while cooking? Gluten free...
  5. I am wondering what tests they ran. Can you get all of the lab results and the path reports? If so, publish them here. OR, take them and get a second opinion from a pediatric GI doc. Celiac diagnosis in kids is a little different than in adults. Maybe they only did an TTG in which case a full celiac panel might be illuminating. Also, if there is...
  6. Wow! What a tough situation. I'm sorry..... If I am eating with my hands, I always make sure to wash my hands right before hand. I know that doesn't help that much, but it's a good habit for your son to get into. If you do it all the time now, maybe it will be routine in the future. What about wearing gloves? He would be unlikely to put a gloved...
  7. What about sunscreen? I put sunscreen on my kids all the time - and we use waterproof so it is impossible to wash your hands and get it off! I seem to always have a residue on my hands from sunscreen these days....... And some sunscreens use either wheat flour or oats in the mix.
  8. Did you call the person who put the crown on a couple of months ago? It sounds like a complication from his/her procedure? Maybe you could work a discount/payment plan since this sounds like it was an unexpected outcome? Hope you feel better soon!
  9. I will just share an experience I had..... I went to a steak house where there weren't a lot of safe options for me. So, I decided just to order a drink and eat later. I asked the bar tender about how they made their margaritas - fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice and gluten free tequila. gluten-free all the way. My husband went back to order for me and...
  10. I'm so excited! The Austin area has a new gluten-free restaurant - Guaco Taco. I'm going there tomorrow night for dinner. I love Mexican food and miss being able to eat it out.
  11. The article is interesting theoretically but I am not sold... First of all, the article is clearly biased. Secondly, it is constructed like an academic article might be but it is clearly more of an editorial type piece. Third, there is absolutely no scientific evidence presented in the article. Here's his summary, " ...
  12. Lactose intolerance is related to celiac because the villi (that are destroyed in celiac) make the enzyme Lactase that breaks down lactose. Most people with lactose intolerance have stomach cramps, gas, diarrhea after eating dairy/lactose. You said you have lip swelling and eczema which sounds like a true allergy. I'm not sure if food allergies are related...
  13. What antibiotic did you take - so that we can avoid it? So sorry to hear that you are suffering......
  14. Do you have a grill? Grilled chicken/pork chops/fajitas? People could bring the sides? Or loaded baked potatoes? guests bring the bacon, butter, sour cream, cheese and even brisket? Or a brisket as a main dish - people bring the salad and beans? Breakfast tacos bar - tortillas, scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage, potatoes, salsa?
  15. Gelu65, I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time right now. I hope you can find yourself a great family practice doctor or geriatrician - someone that will really listen to you. I don't think it's wrong to try a gluten free diet, but there are many causes of night sweats including thyroid problems, medications, low testosterone, and even...
  16. I was diagnosed recently too and am still looking. I use Aquaphor. I bought some gluten-free lipstick from Whole Foods. Gabriel cosmetics. I don't love the consistency of it but the color was good. Whole Foods has 2-3 brands that are gluten-free and they have a list on their website with what's at your local store. I don't know if there's one near you......
