  5. The fullness of the Eucharist is found in the wine alone for those who cannot take the bread. However, glutenfreewatchdog did an article on the low gluten hosts today. She tested a single host from the Benedictine sisters and found it to contain 0.0017 mg of gluten. Compare that to the 0.57mg found in a piece of gluten free bread. The amount of gluten you...

She tested a single host from the Benedictine sisters and found it to contain 0.0017 mg of gluten. Compare that to the 0.57mg found in a piece of gluten free bread. The amount of gluten you are exposed to is negligible if...
  7. Hi! As it turns out, I"m from that same part of Texas too! It looks like there are lots of things going on in your lab work but nothing that specifically points to celiac. Your ANA and ANA panel, hsCRP, insulin, AST, ALT, Alk Phos, vitamin D level, TSH and anti TPO antibodies. You said you are taking levothyroxine now? It looks like you are taking...
  8. I just ate Snack Pack pudding this week. It was labeled "gluten free". I think Jello brand puddings are gluten free as well but I haven't checked for myself... I haven't checked on Hershey's brand, but I thought I'd give you some options.
  9. Going back to the original post, it seems unlikely that even if the soap bottle plastic contains gluten that it would be the source of the rash. Gluten typically has to be ingested for it to cause a problem. The nature of washing your hands implies that they are CLEAN at the end of the process - mostly due to washing everything away with water. So, the simple...
  10. Lactose and oats are the most common food intolerances. About 10% of celiacs can't tolerate oats so GI docs recommend avoiding them for the first several months and then reintroducing. Look carefully at your gluten-free foods because a lot of gluten-free foods are made with oat flour - also a lot of oats are contaminated. If a product claims to be gluten...
  11. I agree with a gluten challenge and labs. Remember, your son is home now and you control everything he eats. but in a couple of years, he enter the world of birthday parties with pizza and cake. A gluten free diet for celiac is all the time and can be very isolating for everyone - but especially children who don't want to be different. It would be nice to...
  12. Personally, I would sit down with your BF and tell him that you really appreciate all the hard work that he is doing to keep the kitchen safe for you but that you are still getting sick. Explain that even 1 crumb can make you sick and that you know that it is a very difficult task. Then I would explain that you are going to make your own food for a while...
  13. I recently learned about this bakery. You can order cookies to be sent to you.... www.eightfreetreats.com Good luck!
  14. Hi all- just an update - I went to the UCLA Celiac center last week to see their dietitian, Nancee Jaffe. Some background - I live in Texas and was diagnosed in 2016. I have seen 2 dietitians here who really didn't know that much about celiac. They have not been particularly helpful in providing evidenced based recommendations for the practicalities...
  15. Actually, I was diagnosed the same way: endoscopy first then labs. I was anemic so they did a scope looking for the source. Since I do not have GI Symptoms(which is true for 1/2 of celiacs) and I have no family history, no one was suspecting it. Once the gastroenterologist got the results of the small bowel biopsy showing villous atrophy, he suspected celiac...
  16. I'm sorry you are feeling so bad. Many people take 1-2 years to feel better on a strict gluten free diet so that fact that you are better but not 100% could just be a normal recovery period. Also, you could still be consuming little bits of gluten so you are not getting complete recovery - the learning curve for a gluten free diet as it relates to celiac...
  17. It is great! It is a simple restaurant with a simple menu - just to grab a quick bite, but I eat there often. I haven't been to Maudie's since my diagnosis, but good to know in case I end up there one day....
  18. Hi Lyfan- I think you may have misunderstood what happened in 2004. At the time when Haley's mother, Elizabeth Pelly-Waldman, asked the Church for a dispensation she refused the two reasonable options they did provide her with: 1. to take a low gluten host (which is below 20ppm) or 2. partake of the wine only. What she asked for was her daughter to...
  19. Do you know what stool test you had specifically that showed "inflammation"?
  20. There is also a celiac center at UCLA - Dr Weiss
  21. I do think sunscreen could be an issue for people. I realize that it is only an issue if ingested. I have very pale children. We use thick zinc oxide and waterproof sunscreen. I apply it every hour or we will burn. I have it coating my hands at the end of every pool trip. We swim daily in the summer in a Texas. There is nothing else to do when it's this hot...
  22. I am Catholic and I totally understand. At my home parish, there is a layman who has celiac. He has arranged to have these hosts ordered from the Benedictine sisters of Perpetual adoration. Open Original Shared Link At the beginning mass, anyone who needs a gluten-free hose can take it from the main receptacle and place it in a special pix. The...
  23. You don't mention which medications you are on but several medications come in other forms besides pills: There are sublingual strips, pills and liquids, injectables, and transdermal skin patches. All of these have their pluses and minuses but they would get around the issue of malabsorption due to a celiac flare. You might talk to your GP/psychiatrist...
  24. Do they need to be vegan? Adding real butter might help make them crispier? Or cutting back on the amount of oat flour (i.e. use 1 1/2 cups of oat flour but keep the rest of the recipe quantities the same)? Just some thoughts. Maybe use toasted walnuts which would be crunchier and less full of water which might cause steam while cooking? Gluten free...
