Welcome to the forum, MaureenB! Arthritis - does anyone get joint pain/swelling with even the smallest glutening? If so, how long does it take for your joints to feel better? (Getting work up for rheumatoid arthritis at the moment but hard to tell if it's all just because of gluten) Yes, this is a very common medical condition associated with gluten...

This may help for name brand meds: https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/ Otherwise, you would need to contact the manufacturer if it is a generic or store brand. What practical measures have you taken to combat the GERD such as diet changes and elevating the head of your bed? Long term PPI usage presents some serious health risks in and of itself...

The Gluten Contamination Study We've Been Waiting For
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
I think this is a very enlightening article and should help the average celiac who is not particularly sensitive to CC relax a little. But still, it doesn't address the needs of those who are sensitive. The rinsing of the noodles is the most important take away for me and all celiacs should inquire about this when eating out or insist that their gluten-free...- 70 comments

I think genetic testing through 23andMe costs around $200 USD. It won't establish whether or not you have celiac disease but whether or not you have the genes that can potentially result in it. There are two primary genes that have been linked to the development of celiac disease. Most who have them don't develop celiac disease as it also requires some kind...

The potential problem I see with a pescatarian diet is the potential for heavy metal toxicity over time.

If I was going to freak out when walking down the bread aisle at the supermarket it would be because the smell of sour dough makes me crave real bread.

Yes, but whether or not it does and whether or not it does in sufficient amounts to actually cause a reaction is the very question I was addressing. It's just hard to know since there are those who claim it is happening to them and we have no objective way of determining whether it is real or imagined.

Good question, Russ. I wonder about that too. The problem is that sensitivity varies so much within the celiac community that its really hard to get a handle on what is effectively gluten free and what is not.

Neuropathy is associated with both celiac disease and NCGS. We have lots of people on this forum who have NCGS who suffer from neuropathy. But looking at your symptoms in toto, there are a lot of things that suggest celiac disease and the nutritional deficiencies that invariably accrue from celiac disease. To your supplementation I would suggest adding a...

Welcome to the forum, John! You frequently mentioned cutting out gluten and problems you perceive to be connected to gluten. You also say, "I did a stool test that showed my gut was all out of whack in terms of bacteria and most importantly that my Anti-gliadin immune response was over 500 U/L." But what you do not say is whether or not you have...

Is DiGiorno Gluten Free Pizza Really Gluten-Free?
trents commented on Scott Adams's article in Additional Concerns
I suspect there is something going on here that has something to do with the de-glutened wheat starch itself that is causing so many to react to it like the gluten had not been removed. I'm thinking there is something left behind that is enough like gluten to cause gluten-like reactions in a significant number of people but not in many others with celiac...- 43 comments

Welcome to the forum, Nancy! What specific info about Udis' bread are you looking for? Do you have any dietary issues besides avoiding gluten that you need to address?

Celiac disease can result in inflammation in various parts of the body. Choose only vitamins and supplements that are labeled gluten-free. Choose the glycinate or citrate forms of magnesium. They are more expensive but absorbed better than Magnesium oxide, the most common form you see in the stores. The better the magnesium is absorbed the less likely...

Stomach discomfort while lying down
trents replied to Rosanne Pawl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So, I would suggest trying to elevate the head of the bed. Were you diagnosed with celiac disease by blood antibody testing only or did you also have an endoscopy/biopsy performed? Sounds like with your symptoms you should have an upper GI scoping done if you have not done so. Takes around two years or so for complete healing of the small bowel... -
Stomach discomfort while lying down
trents replied to Rosanne Pawl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Vitamins and supplements are not required to report that kind of information so I wouldn't rely on the labels. Better to get vitamin and supplement products that specifically say they are gluten free. Costco's Kirkland Signature and Nature Made lines will say on the label if they are gluten free and many or most of them are. -

Have you screened the vitamin and supplements you take for gluten? -
Welcome to the forum, Gamma! First, let me offer this primer on getting a handle on gluten free eating because it's much more involved than most people imagine when they first start out on the gluten-free journey. Most people who think they are eating gluten-free are actually eating a lower gluten diet than the general public but not truly gluten free...

Stomach discomfort while lying down
trents replied to Rosanne Pawl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, Rosanne! Some common health conditions that accrue from unattended celiac disease are GERD and SIBO. For the GERD, you might try elevating the head of your bed at least 15 degrees and sleeping more on your back. SIBO would likely require an antibiotic. Also, it sounds like you re new to the gluten-free diet. It's easy to eliminate... -
Cautions for Coffee and Caffeine Drinkers
trents commented on Lauren Lindsey's article in Additional Concerns
And yet, coffee has also been touted for being practically a super food, chocked full of antioxidants: Open Original Shared Link And most of these benefits accrue for those who drink multiple cups a day. Like many things, there are those who have certain health and metabolic issues that would suggest total abstinence from coffee. But for most folks... -
Do you empty your bladder completely at night when you pee? Have you been checked for enlarged prostate? Have you had a bladder cystoscopy? Have you been checked for diabetes? I have not heard of these kinds of symptoms in connection with celiac disease so I would assume it is something else.

A recent research article posted on the forum showed that 20% of people of white European decent confirmed to have celiac disease by biopsy and 80% of people of black African decent having celiac disease confirmed by biopsy produced negative tTG-IGA scores. Also, Scott recently posted a summary of the articles published on this forum over the years connecting...
