ARCHIVED New And Looking For Feedback
Kaycee replied to outOfThisWorld's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marcus, if I were you, I would go for blood tests for coeliac, before trying an elimination diet. If you were gluten free for a while before being tested it is harder to get true results, as healing will have been taking place in your small intestines, and the antibody levels would be a lot lower and the test would be leaning more towards normal levels... -
ARCHIVED Well Crap.
Kaycee replied to AmandaD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think this is probably the case. But doesn't it half make you wonder whether it has gluten or not, and a statement like that tends to put me right off a product alltogher. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Ok, I've Made Up My Mind.
Kaycee replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good luck to you Jerry and also to you to "Out of this World." Hopefully you find the answers pretty quickly. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?
Kaycee replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My first thought on reading this was to use the spray bottle and spray your husband, accidently of course! Is it just a female thing that we can't sleep when either a child or a cat or dog, cries, meaows or barks, we wake up, while our husbands quietly (usually) sleep on? Cathy -
Maybe if like me, you press the refresh button? Cathy

ARCHIVED How Much Does It Take To Get A Reaction?
Kaycee replied to AZ Gal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
AZ Gal, I do all my dishes by hand, and all the other members of my family eat gluten, and I don't think I have had any problems with that. I do remember once when my cup went through the dishwasher at work, and it came back with a noodle stuck on it. Of all the cups for that noodle to pick, it would be mine. So I am more careful about the dishwasher... -
Thanks everyone for your help. This morning it still was all skewed, but when I pressed refresh as advised, it fixed itself. Whooppee In case you are wondering it is The Church of the Good Shephard at Lake Tekapo in the South Island of New Zealand. We did the touristy thing (as we travelled 1200km/ 900 miles from home to get married) with all the family...

I went in and changed my Avatar, but when I go check to see if it has changed, it has, but not how I wanted it to. I went in and selected a new scenic picture, and put that on, but when I go check the results, there is my old Avatar all squashed, stretched and mishappen! Not a good look for me personally. But when I go into my controls my new Avatar is...

I'll be lucky if I can keep my eyes open, but I always try so that I can text my son in Sydney at midnight, or else he will text me and give me such a rude awakening. I plan on having a drink or two at home and watch the tele. Boring I know. My best New Year's day, and the hardest, was 26 years ago giving birth to my 26 year old son. Cathy

82. 13st! I Feel A Diet Coming On! Is The New Year Coming?
Kaycee posted a blog entry in Kaycee's Blog
I guess I am lucky, I struggled to loose nearly a couple of stone a few years back (was 90kg/14st), and even adjusting to the gluten free diet in the beginning, I did not gain it back. I was really chuffed and told myself that no way was I ever going to get over 80kg, but look at me now, one year on and the weight is creeping back up, I am now 83 kilos,... -
ARCHIVED Okay....what Do I Do? Really Need Some Help Here...
Kaycee replied to kbabe1968's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Kbabe, If only I found this site in the beginning. One thing to add, have a food diary if you have the time, that way if anything gives you grief you might be able to figure it out by looking at what you ate over the last few days. I have been gluten free for a year, it was hard, and I endorse what Carla says about using basic food, to start... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Causing Bloated Feeling?
Kaycee replied to annacsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have the problem of bloating, unless I eat something with gluten in by mistake. There could be a chance that you are lactose intolerant, and if you were/are coeliac your villi could have been damanged and not able to digest lactose as well, and that could be causing the bloated feelings. From what I gather, if this is the problem and you give... -
Rice Guy,No problem, you must've mistaken me for my mother who has the sweetest tooth out! Every now and again I just want to feel normal and all I wanted was to try and have a treat because I don't get many, especially treats I don't have to cook, and I put one and one together thinking it could be soy, which I usually avoid, but over the Crhistmas period...

ARCHIVED Reacting To Small Amounts Of Gluten After Going gluten-free?
Kaycee replied to Helena's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Helena, yes I noticed pretty soon after being gluten free, each time I had been glutened. And yes, I do react to the smallest amount of gluten, even within a few days of starting the diet. Even now after being glutened, I can look at what I have been feeding myself and would never guess where the gluten came from, but the reactions are definately gluten... -
ARCHIVED What Was Your Favorite Christmas Gift?
Kaycee replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lucky Santa in the Caymans Santa's best present was to bring summer for us. For the last few weeks it has been chilly, not at all summerlike, but Santa bought it in just for us. Now since I have 6 weeks off work I can pack up a and go to the beach and chill out. Cathy -
Eliza, From what I believe soy can be problematic, but I don't know if you have to cut it out only because you think you should. If it was causing problems for you, then yes I would cut it out. To cut out soy would mean there would be even less that you could eat. Smoking makes you sick, give it up. Hard I know, as I gave up a few years back and that...
-
Dear nice RiceGuy, you make me sound like a real chocoholic! I wish I was, but I am not, and it will be easy to give it up, along with the minimal amount of soy I eat. I gave chocolate up about 4 years ago for a couple of years, thinking that was what was causing grief for my digestive system. I don't seem to miss things if I know it is not good for me...

Wouldn't it be nice if we could blame all our complaints on gluten. Well the fact that I couldn't sleep very well some nights, I would blame gluten, but I am beginning to think it is something else, as there seems to be a pattern emerging in my food diary. I have narrowed it down to what I think is soy lecithin, or maybe any soy at all. As the only...

ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Food
Kaycee replied to lapetit8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have my favourites, but probably not brands that will be American, so here goes *Best Bread = My own in a breadmaker, I can chop and change the flavour. *Best Bagels = I can't make them, and can't afford them, and I don't need them *Best Pasta = I haven't found one, but the Healtheries Simple range is not too bad. But I find pasta is no longer... -
ARCHIVED Bread & Butter Pudding
Kaycee replied to georgie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Georgie, I can't see why it wouldn't work. Mum used to make it when we were kids, my husband loves it and you have given me an inspiration to try to make it gluten free. I have never thought of making it in a savoury version. More inspiration. I made a trifle for xmas, it wasn't too bad, but I wil have to work on the sponge part. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
Kaycee replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It will be hard to change what manufacturers do, as they will argue it is the general populace that wants food that lasts, looks good and tastes nice. That is where the problem is, we might be reading labels, and know what is in foods, but the general population who doesn't have allergies or intolerances (that they know of) is quite unlikely to even bother... -
ARCHIVED Maybe Eating Boxed Cereal Isn't What We Should Choose.
Kaycee replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I so agree, even if it is labelled gluten free and has a list a mile long of ingredients, I will not go there. But here is where I fall flat on my face, I don't mind the rest of my family eating that stuff. What is wrong with me? Cathy -
ARCHIVED Ok - Christmas Gluten Gifts Whinge Time
Kaycee replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My little winge. None of my presents was anything to eat. Maybe I have managed to educate my friends and workmates and family. The only one present that was a bit iffy was a lavender soap (I don't get food anymore, so what is next best? Soap) and it said it could possibly contain oats. Cathy -
ARCHIVED Ok - Christmas Gluten Gifts Whinge Time
Kaycee replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is so sad. Does your family not know that you can't eat gluten, or just don't want to know. Maybe you have to re-inforce with them what you can and cannot eat. It is all new to them as well and probably quite hard. I know a table full of food I can't eat brings tears to my eyes, honestly. This is my first Christmas too, but I am so full and ready... -
Christmas has all but been and gone. A lovely day, slept in a bit, thankfully the boys are old enough to not jump on our bed first thing in the morning demanding to be allowed to open presents. Thankfully they don't since they are 6 ft tall! No 4 son gave me a book called Smitten, with oodles of photos of cute little kittens. They are so adorable...
