Bah! No fair you guys are getting snow! It was 67 degrees here today- we had all the windows open and the kids are wearing shorts.

And we didn't move down south till I was 10, old enough that I know what I'm missing!

sigh... we haven't gotten a decent snow in three winters now. Keeping our fingers crossed for this year!!!

I'd gladly trade--it was nasty today here--40 and rainy and gloomy. Just nasty

Our temp was in the 50's today. I'm not particularly fond of cold weather ... and I grew up in the north! I'd be perfecty happy to move back down south ... not Florida though .... I like a little bit of season change.

Man, our seasons change just TOO MUCH here...minus twenty in the winter, plus thirty-five in the summer...and HUMID!

We had snowflakes today, too. Gus likes to bite them. Such a childish goofball. Wait...I like to do that, too....

:rolleyes::D

Just sharing traditions - you did give me pull my finger :D

oh yes, yes we did, and use it wisely - - and often.

Dang I let a good 'un RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP last night - it startled Annie  and I had a good chortle over it...........(um, I must recommend AGAINST, however, eating 2/3 of a canister of Archer Farms (Target) butter toffee popcorn w/ almonds/cashews.:ph34r:

That Dingo Quinoa stuffing looks delicious...must try it, and thanks for the reprint, Richard! Will have to make a couple of substitutions...One sub-standard poodle in place of dingo...

 yes, that'll do, and be sure to have some wine on hand. ;)

Ya! You guys are weirdos!!:lol:

OMG we SO are!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SNOW?? SNOW!! OMG - - some of you are having winter and some - in shorts? Shorts......I'm sorry Sarah....that is just WRONG........I think it's in the 60s here.......I am always DESPERATELY MAD to ahve a rainy and cozy Thanksgiving or Christmas - bloody never happens..............alas, THIS year, there MAY be a chance of rain that day - -

Susie is pleased!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. the wee snowy Angus is SOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he'd make a fine ebay model...................... :P

I know, it was just so not right.

I kicked back on the front porch, in shorts and a t-shirt, bare feet... watching the kids romp around in the yard, with ORANGE and RED leaves blowing gently in the warm breeze. Utterly bizarre!

They say it's supposed to get cold again by Friday... In NC, you can never pack away either type of clothes- summer or winter. It bounces up and down too much.

I remember one year, when I was a kid.... it was 72 a couple days before Christmas, and snowed a week later.

I have to admit, it was a pretty picture today at the Med Center, there were still red leaves on the trees and this fresh blanket of white snow, the first snow of the season. The color in the leaves just looked so much brighter. I wish I had my camera on me. I never saw anything that pretty in real life, only in picture books.

Yucky here today...dark and rainy. :(

I suddenly remembered a quote that is on my list of favourites, from another hero of mine, The Great Oscar Wilde:

At times I am so clever, I don't know what on earth I'm talking about...

Bloody sunny here. Bah! Well, it was dark and foggy in the morning, loved it, felt very holiday-ish. Now, sun coming out.........I am envious of you people with the dark gloom......I just think it makes the holidays SO MUCH cozier when it's cold and dark outside!!!!!!!

Patti - a heinous headache? whatever for? Feel better. :)

Cooking has started. Today I'm making lasagne to freeze and take for Saturday night. I've made chex(type) mix, muddy buddies and tonight is the choc chip cookies. Everything gluten-free, of course so that the kiddos will have some proper treats when everyone else is going hog wild on the gluten stuff at my mom & dad's.

Doing Christmas while we are there so have to get all the presents wrapped as well. Somebody needs to start packing!!! Ugggghhhhh!!!!!!!

Good News! The head count is down to 19. I'm working on a sineous infection myself. Think I can get a doctor's note excusing me from the cooking?

Excellent motto . . . fits us, perfectly. And where do we go to buy these T-shirts and coffee mugs? Anybody selling them on ebay?

68 degrees here today . . . falling temps and rain tomorrow . . . snow and ice for Thanksgiving. Whatever. Just so it's not icy when we are driving.

Time to go kill that turkey.

Susie, get off and go do your work!!!!

Well, she was here when I started this post.

Happy cooking, Janet! Chocolate chip cookies sound good....I may make a batch.

Hey everyone! I'm one of those newbies Susie or Emily mentioned, who came across this thread by chance. I love it! :D

I really wish I had seen the toaster poster...although that was posted before I was diagnosed, so I wouldn't have had a reason to be here.

Also, to combine the cat comment and the dutch oven discussion, the absolute worst is when your cat farts on your pillow and/or you in bed.

For some reason the vision of some cute, cuddly, soft, warm, purring fluffball with weapons grade gas is hysterical.

 riiiiiiiiight . . .. .

I spy w/ my little eye . .. . . Dingy here ~12:20p . .. .

<but tom's not falling for THAT again!>

Meanwhile, back at the fantastically located, but too small, apartment, I can let out a general purpose scream to be interpreted however one likes.

In my case, it's the annoyance & frustration of TOO MUCH STUFF!!!

Why do I have this? . . . .Why do I have THIS? .. . . . . Why does my roommate think the front/coat closet is a good place for his bin of extra sheets??!

Sounds like a good time for a trip to Salvation Army or Goodwill. :) I love getting rid of stuff!! So do my kids! It's hysterical. They get it from me ... hubby is a packrat .... but no more since we've moved so many times in the past few years.

Sunny here too, and 73 degrees. And Lucas has some kind of virus from hell and has been throwing up since 6am. The vomit and poop never ends around here.

Welcome, Joyful!

I'd go with a vodka tonic, but that's just me😉

That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
