Bah! No fair you guys are getting snow! :angry: It was 67 degrees here today- we had all the windows open and the kids are wearing shorts.

And we didn't move down south till I was 10, old enough that I know what I'm missing!

sigh... we haven't gotten a decent snow in three winters now. Keeping our fingers crossed for this year!!!

I'd gladly trade--it was nasty today here--40 and rainy and gloomy. Just nasty :angry:

Our temp was in the 50's today. I'm not particularly fond of cold weather ... and I grew up in the north! I'd be perfecty happy to move back down south ... not Florida though .... I like a little bit of season change.

Man, our seasons change just TOO MUCH here...minus twenty in the winter, plus thirty-five in the summer...and HUMID!

We had snowflakes today, too. Gus likes to bite them. Such a childish goofball. Wait...I like to do that, too....

Dang I let a good 'un RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP last night - it startled Annie :lol: and I had a good chortle over it...........(um, I must recommend AGAINST, however, eating 2/3 of a canister of Archer Farms (Target) butter toffee popcorn w/ almonds/cashews. :ph34r::ph34r:

That Dingo Quinoa stuffing looks delicious...must try it, and thanks for the reprint, Richard! Will have to make a couple of substitutions...One sub-standard poodle in place of dingo... :lol:

I know, it was just so not right.

I kicked back on the front porch, in shorts and a t-shirt, bare feet... watching the kids romp around in the yard, with ORANGE and RED leaves blowing gently in the warm breeze. :blink: Utterly bizarre!

They say it's supposed to get cold again by Friday... In NC, you can never pack away either type of clothes- summer or winter. It bounces up and down too much.

I remember one year, when I was a kid.... it was 72 a couple days before Christmas, and snowed a week later.

I have to admit, it was a pretty picture today at the Med Center, there were still red leaves on the trees and this fresh blanket of white snow, the first snow of the season. The color in the leaves just looked so much brighter. I wish I had my camera on me. I never saw anything that pretty in real life, only in picture books.

Bloody sunny here. Bah! :angry: Well, it was dark and foggy in the morning, loved it, felt very holiday-ish. Now, sun coming out.........I am envious of you people with the dark gloom......I just think it makes the holidays SO MUCH cozier when it's cold and dark outside!!!!!!!

Cooking has started. Today I'm making lasagne to freeze and take for Saturday night. I've made chex(type) mix, muddy buddies and tonight is the choc chip cookies. Everything gluten-free, of course so that the kiddos will have some proper treats when everyone else is going hog wild on the gluten stuff at my mom & dad's.

Doing Christmas while we are there so have to get all the presents wrapped as well. Somebody needs to start packing!!! Ugggghhhhh!!!!!!!

Good News! The head count is down to 19. I'm working on a sineous infection myself. Think I can get a doctor's note excusing me from the cooking?

Excellent motto . . . fits us, perfectly. And where do we go to buy these T-shirts and coffee mugs? Anybody selling them on ebay?

68 degrees here today . . . falling temps and rain tomorrow . . . snow and ice for Thanksgiving. Whatever. Just so it's not icy when we are driving.

Time to go kill that turkey.

Hey everyone! I'm one of those newbies Susie or Emily mentioned, who came across this thread by chance. I love it! :D

I really wish I had seen the toaster poster...although that was posted before I was diagnosed, so I wouldn't have had a reason to be here.

Also, to combine the cat comment and the dutch oven discussion, the absolute worst is when your cat farts on your pillow and/or you in bed. :blink:

Sounds like a good time for a trip to Salvation Army or Goodwill. :) I love getting rid of stuff!! :lol: So do my kids! It's hysterical. They get it from me ... hubby is a packrat .... but no more since we've moved so many times in the past few years.

Sunny here too, and 73 degrees. And Lucas has some kind of virus from hell and has been throwing up since 6am. The vomit and poop never ends around here.

      Small Bowel Resection 12 inches

      You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.

      Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to...

If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.

      There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher.
