I think I'm the only one not joining the cult. I feel like an outsider now :(

I don't like it as much as Bare Minerals... I ordered a lot of stuff and gave most of it to my daughter. I kept a light pink finishing powder and the lipsticks I ordered. And I do like the concealer (took me 4 trys to get the right color).

But over all I feel the powder itself isn't ground as finely as Bare Minerals. I'm older with a few lines and creases on my face and the powder seems to settle in those lines where my Bare Minerals doesn't.

Oh well just goes to prove that something is not exactly right for everyone!

I'm glad you all enjoy it!

Susan

Oh Susan, I am sorry to hear it doesn't work for you :(

I am bummed too, I want everyone to have good luck with it.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but some of the other ladies have mentioned that the formulation of the foundation makes a difference with fine lines and creases (i.e. intensive, semi matte, matte, glo).

You guys talked me into it!! I hate the way liquid foundation rubs off on everything and leaves the jawline mark. I have used Bare Minerals, Avon, and L'Oreal mineral makeup but wanted to give this a try. I am ordering foundation, powder, blush, and brush. Thanks for the tips!

Hey Robin, and Welcome! Hope you enjoy your samples when they come in. Let us know what you think.

That's sad Susan. Wish it would have worked out better for you.

As Julie said, the formulation can make a difference and I read if the shade is too dark it will show fine lines. Too light and you will get a chalky look. One of the shades I chose was too dark and did show liines, but now I have a couple that are perfect. It did take some trial and error, though.

You can always drop in a join our silly thread. :)

Hello girls! I forgot to mention yesterday the retractible kabuki brush I bought at Target. It wasn't cheap, so I hope it's good, lol. I thought it would be great for my "at work" kit that I want to put together...since it retract into itself, I'm hoping the minerals won't get all over everything, lol.

I also saw the cutest mini train case at the mall...OMGosh it was cute. Not sure I'd be able to fit a lot in there but I may just have to get it for the cuteness. :P Girly girls everywhere will understand that I'm sure. :P

Today's colors:

Starry Eyed...yes, love this. I had it at the lash line for a smokey look, then I also used it as an eyeliner.

Diary...very nice, but a little dark. I used that in the crease (used Pots & Pans all over as a base).

That's all the new stuff. I think the un-petroleum stuff I bought will do very well as a lip gloss, although I didn't try it today.

I think I'm the only one not joining the cult. I feel like an outsider now

I'm so sorry Susan! You can always talk about your Bare Minerals. :P My favorite eyeshadow colors are from Bare Minerals and so far haven't quite found a great match in that regard...wish the BM hadn't started making my eyes burn and skin break out!

Got my mini kit yesterday just before date night....I loved the mint concealer and the foundation was very natural looking....I am also older but this seems to work better for me than BM...I got the intensive cover for the foundation...can't wait for my real order to come...

Donna....I have a teenage daughter...she helps me with the eye shadow thing :P

Did you see this on the EM News page:

"And we will NOT, I repeat, NOT discontinue the Silk Dust. "

Sounds like there was maybe an uproar about the announcemnt of discontinuing the Silk Dust?

Oooooh, let me know how the retractable brush works. I'm all about brushes. I want the new angled blush brush from EM, but our car bill was over $1,200 dollars!!! YIKES. THAT REALLY HURT! I also got a bill from a recent doctor visit that was already resubmitted once and insurance is saying they won't pay $150.00. Found all this out after I came home from a "Girl's Night Out" to a Girl Scout event with my mom last night, while hubby was home watching the kids. It was a comedy show and I had a great time! My mom and I both won a basket from the Chinese Auction and I WON 50/50 which was $406.00! And no, I did NOT tell my husband about the 50/50 winnings...for obvious reasons!!! LOL! I need a way to secretly buy more EM, maybe cashiers check and have the package mailed to my moms??? Hmmm... need to think about this one.

Yes!!! I did see that. It's nice to know Carina does make customer satisfaction a high priority. I can't wait for everything to be available in sample sizes. At least that's how I took her message. Did you think she meant all or just the finishing powders?

Nah, I have doggie dogs, lol. I had two Westies, and the most I ever did was put a sweater on them when it was really cold (and they weren't pleased about that, lol)...they both thought they were Rotties.

Wow, congratulations on the 50/50!!! That's fantastic! Yeah, I just got a surprise dental bill for work that was done a year ago. They never bothered to send me a bill and now it's due like IMMEDIATELY! It's for $853!

I used the brush this morning and I think it did very well with foundation. I want that angled brush too, but, yeah...I'm going to have to reign my spending in a bit. :P

Now that I am not sure about.

I am also looking forward to seeing the new website layout. Sounds like there will be new swatches which will give a better idea of what each color looks like, and more models modeling the make up.

I think this will be helpful when choosing colors :)

Oooh, me too. I can't wait to see the new color swatches and pictures. It would really help if the pictures were the accurate colors. That's one reason I hope all the makeup will eventually be available in sample sizes. I could live off sample kits alone, lol!

Well like a good little cult member, I washed all my brushes last night. :P And, like a really good cult member, I had backup brushes for most everything so I could still put my makeup on this morning. :) And, like an obsessed good cult member, I have decided that I NEED another eyeshadow brush because that's the only backup brush I didn't have, lol.

Julie,

Brushes ARE disappearing...they changed the free brushes they're sending with the special and one of them is one of the brushes that disappeared...so I've been thinking of going ahead and sending in another order BEFORE the next special, lol, just so I can get that brush! :P My obsessive cult status is rearing it's madeup head.

Yay - loving Donna's beautiful new avitar. Do tell what colors you are wearing.

Why thank you...wearing Fair Medium foundation (matte); pink ribbon blush; pots & pans, diary and starry eyed eye colors; sunlight concealor all over the eye area and on my spots. I'm wearing a lip gloss I got from Longs...it's a little beige, lol.

In an effort to increase my standing in the cult, I have been watching everyday Minerals videos on youtube. Most of them are poorly done with vapid girls expounding the virtues of EM in their best Valley Girl voices. "Yeah, like, hi. I'm Tiffaneee. I am gonna talk todaee about Evauhreeday Mineruhlsss." But I did manage to get a few good tips from some of them. One was if after you buff in your mineral foundation, if you find that it looks a little bit chalky, mist your face a bit with water. This helps the minerals settle in better. I tried it and it works. You have to use just a fine mist, though, not big drops. You guys probably already knew that, but it was news to me.

The sunlight concealer is really great, but you have to apply it with a light hand. On Sunday I put too much on, and it looked like my eyes were floating about 2 inches off of my face. I washed it off and tried again and the second time I did much better. I think today that I have the technique down pat.

The Lavendar everyday everywear has made some really positive changes in my face. Some of the red spots that I have been covering with the mint concealer are starting to fade! I can't wait to see the changes as I continue to use it.

Today's face wardrobe

sunlight concealer under the eyes

spot cover with mint concealer

fair medium foundation - original glo

Jump Rope blush

Good China as a base on the eyes

Pressed olive on the lid

Cypress in the crease

Samba lessons as a liner

Mascara (Avon! The horror!)

Lipstick (Mary Kay! Traitorous Cruelshoes!)

Yay! Paula got her makeup! Put it on and tell us how beautiful you look.

So happy everyone is enjoying their new makeup :D

Hi @Scatterbrain Thank you for your reply.   Some of these things could be weaknesses, also triggered by stress, which perhaps have come about as the result of long-term deficiencies which can take a long time to correct.   Some could be completely unrelated. If it is of help, I'll tell you some of the things that started in the first year or two, following my diagnosis - I pinned everything on coeliac disease, but it turns out I wasn't always right!  Dizziness, lightheaded - I was eventually diagnosed with cervical dizziness (worth googling, could be your issue too, also if you have neck pain?)  A few months after diagnosis I put my neck out slightly carrying my seven-year-old above my head, and never assigned any relevance to it as the pain at the time was severe but so short-lived that I'd forgotten the connection. Jaw pain - stress. Tinnitus - I think stress, but perhaps exacerbated by iron/vitamin deficiencies. Painful ribs and sacroiliac joints - no idea, bloating made the pain worse. It got really bad but then got better. Irregular heart rate - could be a coincidence but my sister (not a coeliac) and I both developed this temporarily after our second Astra Zeneca covid jabs.   Subsequent Pfizer jabs didn't affect us. Brain fog - a big thing for people with certain autoimmune issues but in my case I think possibly worse when my iron or B12 are low, but I have no proof of this. Insomnia - stress, menopause. So basically, it isn't always gluten.  It might be worth having your vitamins and mineral levels checked, and if you have deficiencies speak to your Dr about how better to address them?

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Science-y Explanation of Thiamine Paradox: https://hormonesmatter.com/paradoxical-reactions-with-ttfd-the-glutathione-connection/#google_vignette

Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.
    • Wheatwacked
Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.
