It sounds like a reasonable test to me Jhol. I haven't tried it myself though. I have been adding a little bit of lemon juice to my glass of water for the last week or so. It seems to help my digestion. Another natural remedy is called Blessed Thistle. It is supposed to increase stomach acid also. If you have H. Pylori (bacteria) which many people...

ARCHIVED When Does The "d" Stop?
GFinDC replied to graciebear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Gracie, are you still eating dairy? If you are it may help to eliminate all dairy for a while. Celiac disease destroys the villi that make the enzyme to digest diary. So people often have problems with dairy at first. Also, many adults lose the ability to digest dairy anyway, as lactose intolerance is somewhat common in the population. Eliminating... -
ARCHIVED What's Really Going On In Our Gi Tract?
GFinDC replied to Brandiwine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Brandi, it's a real interesting article for sure. It reminds me of certain kids wanting to eat dirt. I wonder if they somehow know it is good for them? After all, everybody loves a little mud pie right? -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
GFinDC replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Funkflex, have you had your thyroid tested? If you are hypothyroid it can cause fatigue. You may also need to consider other food intolerances. Sometimes they can cause a lot of symptoms themselves, even if they aren't gluten.- 45 replies

ARCHIVED I Am Confused....
GFinDC replied to Justsoconfused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Justso, Welcome to the forum! Not having celiac disease doesn't mean you don't have a problem with gluten. NCGI can cause similar symptoms, and won't show up on celiac disease tests. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac.com/articles/23033/1/Non-Celiac-Wheat-Sensitivity-It-Exists/Page1.html Innate immune response in AI... -
He could also be casein intolerant. Some people react to casein, a protein in cow dairy. Lactaid pills and Lactaid milk don't help people with casein intolerance. Lactose is a sugar in cow dairy and when it isn't digested (broken down) it is available for bacteria to feed on. The bacteria get real happy and multiply like crazy. They cause bloating (they...

The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Sequel
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I request the Queen give her officious blessing and royal approval for her subjects to participate in the March Against Monsanto, 25-May-2013. As the illustrious and most gracious Queen knows, GMO foods are bad for her subjects interior digestion and often are present in royal snubbing cookie packages without any pictorial representation of her glorious... -
No problem, just cross to sidewalk on the opposite side of the street when you see gluten coming! Many doctors are pretty clueless when it comes to nutrition issues and especially eating gluten-free for a celiac. If you went to a celiac center you'd probably get better advice and be referred to a nutritionist. Unfortunately many nutritionists are not...

ARCHIVED Cross Reacting Diet?
GFinDC replied to hannisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Hannisa, If you spend a little while reading the signatures of people on the forum, you will see that many of us have food intolerances beyond just gluten. But they are not all the same. Some people react to soy, to nightshades, some to corn, some to eggs, some to dairy, etc. It varies by the person. So one diet that fits all is not possible. ... -

ARCHIVED Mushroom (Neroli) Memorial Thread
GFinDC replied to Scott Adams's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Shroomie was a great resource for this forum. She gave good advice and spiced it up with humor often. For someone who wasn't feeling too well herself she sure put in a lot of effort to give helpful answers to people's questions. I think that shows love for her fellow humans. My condolences to Clayton and her family. The Lord made a fine catch today!... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac - Long List Of Symptoms - Please Help
GFinDC replied to marco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marco, Celiacs react to wheat, rye and barley. Ten percent or so also react to oats. Many of us also develop additional food intolerances, like corn, eggs, soy, nightshades etc. You could have reacted to barley in the cornflakes, or to the corn, or to both. That's the tricky thing about figuring out food intolerances, you can have reactions to... -
ARCHIVED Do I Need To Be Diagnosed?
GFinDC replied to Cargo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Cargo, Two weeks may be enough for 75 percent of celiacs, but if you aren't part of that 75 percent, not so helpful. Just remember if you get a negative result if t could just mean you are part of the other 25 percent who need longer gluten challenges. I agree it's pretty good chance of a positive, but not so reliable as a negative. Just something... -
I usually have a package of Corn Thins around. They are good with peanut butter. Natural or soy-free peanut butter of course. If I was going to put some stuff aside, it would be dry beans, peas, lentils type of things. Actually, if you grid your own pea flour it makes real nice instant pea soup with just some hot water and a few spices like salt, pepper...

Oh boy, geese can get quite a hissy-fit going! Good thing you were carting, cause them birds like to run up and peck people sometimes. At least the ones we had on the farm as a kid did. I think they like the taste of people! Ah yes, thyroids can be fun eh? I have a cyst on the front of my throat from my thyroid. Being a man I can cheat a little...

Well UC, you certainly started an interesting thread! We have lots of ideas for you here. But maybe something more local would be helpful too. There are celiac support groups in Australia that you could talk to. If you check the membership link on the main page for Celiac Australia it lists support groups in various areas around Australia. Maybe...

ARCHIVED Nearly Two Months Gluten Free - Feeling Worse :(
GFinDC replied to Kates77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Kates77, People do tend to become more sensitive after they have been gluten-free for a while. You may need to really look close at everything you are taking in, including vitamins and meds, drinks and anything else. Getting better may take some real basic simple foods for a while. No or very little processed food can help. Low sugar and low carbs... -
You are welcome Ksee. It all too true that writing on the internet can be taken totally the opposite of what's intended sometimes. Not seeing body language means some things are not interpreted the way we intend. If you ever want to suggest I change anything I've said and don't want to call it out in the thread, feel free to PM me. I think that is a fine...

ARCHIVED Shocked And Overwhelmed
GFinDC replied to slickdaddy0077's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Michael, You might want to invest in a few things to help with symptoms. Peppermint can help get gas out of the stomach. Pepto Bismol can help soothe the gut. Plain old aspirin can help with pain. I suggest you be careful about your morning meals. Eat a small breakfast and eat only simple foods, like plain meats with salt and pepper or eggs... -
Hi Snag, Two words for ya, "elimination diet". An elimination diet can help you pin point problem foods that may cause reactions. But before you go down that road, it makes sense to do some basic things that might help. Are you eating oats? It is better to wait 6 months to a year before trying oats, as some of us react to them. Any ingredient...

ARCHIVED Screen Too Wide-How To Shrink It?
GFinDC replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help

ARCHIVED Strange Things Going On
GFinDC replied to slickdaddy0077's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, can we trade dreams? Believe me, you'll be getting the short end of the stick though. Celiac disease can affect any part of the body, so anything is fair game. Hormones can be affected too. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis destroys the thyroid via an autoimmune attack. Of course the thyroid produces a very important hormone that we can't live without...- 4 replies

I hope your tests go well. Some of us have an immune reaction reaction to oats. So you may have been having problems in your gut for a while now. Hard to know about these things really. Lots of times it is trial and error to learn how our bodies react. Kind of the school of hard knocks education. The gluteney cake may have been a trigger for a more...

ARCHIVED 10 Symptoms Of Gluten Intolerance Story
GFinDC replied to kenlove's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hmmm, i liked the first part of the article about symptoms of gluten intolerance. But advising people to start the gluten-free diet without testing for celiac disease is bad advice IMHO. Also, I think this statement is false: Please note that gluten is a very large protein and it can take months and even years to clear from your system That...
