  1. My son has GERD as a glutening symptom. Several medications didn't help. A careful gluten-free diet did. I hope that you find the right answer for you.
  2. How long have you been gluten free? It can take some time to heal fully. It can also take some time to stop making mistakes with the gluten free diet.
  3. You aren't alone there. I also have to be very careful.
  4. I am susceptible to small amounts of gluten cross contamination and I stay away from most packaged foods. I needed to use elimination dieting combined with a food/symptom journal to determine a safe diet for me.
  5. I have a 17 year old son who has this problem. I have thought he was lazy and faking many times. It is hard to look at someone with this problem that you can't see and believe it. His doctor believed him and helped us learn how to avoid gluten contamination in his diet. His school administrators wouldn't believe it, but many of his teachers did. They...
  6. Not eating gluten made a huge difference for me. I went from not being able to be away from the toilet and still not making it there pretty often to normal. I went from no energy where it took me all day to mow 1/4 of the yard, to mowing the whole yard being a small part of what I get done in a day. I went from not being able to run around the block to...
  7. Here is more: http://www.examiner.com/article/bogus-paper-on-roundup-saturates-the-internet http://www.junkscience.co.uk/tag/anthony-samsel/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tamar-haspel/condemning-monsanto-with-_b_3162694.html http://www.gmwatch.org/index.php/news/archive/2013/14764-comment-on-critique-of-samsel-and-seneff-glyphosate-review http://ultimateglutenfree...
  8. That's wonderful. Both your family and your positive attitude.
  9. I suggest that you take the time to try to get more complete testing before trying the gluten free diet. Especially with a child, you could have problems with people not believing that he has the condition further down the road. You could have problems with schools not wanting to make accomodations. People have a real tendency to discount symptoms with...
  10. I can't predict what the doctor will say. Don't think of it as bad news though. Think of it as knowledge that will allow your son to get better. Try to do some fun things this weekend to get you mind off it.
  11. I'm vegetarian but not vegan. I eat eggs to get those animal product nutrients. When pasture is available I also drink pasture raised milk. I usually throw together some kind of stir fry with veggies and eggs, and eat fruit plain or blended into a smoothie. I snack on nuts. I emphasize whatever is in season. That works fine for me. My nutrient levels...
  12. Thank you Kareng. I signed up. After my recent experience with my son's school, I realize that I need more knowledge about this. How can it be that school administrators are allowed to overrule the doctor about whether or not absences are due to illness?
  13. This was also the case for me. I have problems with some processed gluten-free foods. I had to keep a food/symptom journal and keep careful track of what I ate to determine which foods were safe for me. Many of us need to avoid soy. That could be your problem. You could try to eliminate the yogurt for a week and then add it again to see what happens...
  14. My son took a couple of weeks to recover. It seemed to make him more symptomatic. His symptoms were not the same as yours though. He had reflux, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, rashes, and brian fog. I hope that you feel better soon.
  15. I'm trying to gain weight too. It can be a challenge. Sometimes eating more makes me lose weight becasue it can make all my food pass through me undigested. I got down pretty low but I'm getting better again now.
  16. I agree with Kareng about the elimintion diet. Start with your safe foods symptom free. Then try adding things one at a time, one per week and monitor your symptoms. That is the way to figure out what you can eat, and what you can't. It is slow but effective. It is what I've done to find a safe diet. In my case, just because another celiac can eat something...
  17. I agree with the food/symptom diary. You can try eliminating individual foods for a week at a time to see if there is something or many somethings in particular causing your problems. Keep track of what the food is, and what the source of it is. I need to do that to track what I can and cannot eat. Sometimes I start having symptoms again and that is what...
  18. The OP said that she reacted to gluten-free oats. I also have a reaction to oats and believe that KIND bars are problematic for me for the shared facility reason.
  19. Thanks for trying Kareng. 1desperateladysaved. If you want more details about how the study was done, look up the study and read it. Here is more where they refer to a more recent study on humans: "From the published data, the skin iodine patch test is not a reliable method to assess whole body sufficiency for iodine." "The iodine/iodide loading test...
  20. It looks like I don't have to volunteer to do the study. It's been done: Open Original Shared Link "Meticulous research by Nyiri and Jannitti in 1932 showed clearly when iodine is applied to the skin in almost any form, 50% evaporates into the air within 2 hours and between 75 and 80 percent evaporates into the air within 24 hours. (1) A total of 88...
  21. Diana, You provided evidence for iodine supplementation helping you feel better. That's great. I am glad that you are feeling better. What I was looking for was evidence tha the iodine skin test would reveal iodine deficiency. That's what I was questioning.
  22. I think that you may have been mislead with this test. I don't think that it would show iodine deficiency. Do you have any evidence that it works? I think that a medically proven test for iodine deficiency would be better.
  23. I liked Not Crazy's answer. Maybe bringing something of your own to eat would make others feel less uncomfortable. I had no idea it would be as easy as just telling them I have allergies and bringing my own. I usually order a drink and socialize.
  24. I did better with rice from Thailand. Eventually, though, we gave up on it completely.
