  3. Crisco is not the same old Crisco our grandparents used.. They have taken the trans fat out .so not the same. For a recipe I had from years ago it wasn't good with the new Crisco so I used 1/4 Crisco & the rest I used good butter. worked perfect...
  4. I think this is one of the hardest parts of being celiac...in general we look the norm( whatever that is)& when anyone makes the snide remarks or comments they are very hurtful & at times unforgettable. Worse when it comes from people who are supposed to love & support you...Many of us have them too..... Your mother...
  5. I guess shipping alone is a killer price.. I haven't seen them in any of our local stores , under $5.oo for an occasional treat I wouldn't mind ....there are several gluten-free items I would like to try but shipping & pricing is way to high for my budget....
  6. they look yummy but 100 bucks for twelve I couldn't afford them.....
  7. Wholly wholesome has just come out with gluten-free dough.....I bought one but haven't tried it yet, they do gluten-free pie shells & others have said they were very good....also some of the gluten-free bakeries also sell gluten-free dough balls....
  8. I have tried the bread mixes as they sent them to me to try... honestly I made them for our group & they were a win win.....Everyone liked them....
  9. sending more hugs! You are still all good when it comes to celiac....the feelings you have are normal to celiac, I think most of us have been there our first few months into recovery....sadness, anger, denial, an emotional roller coaster for many....some it takes much longer to find peace ... the good thing it does ...
  10. congrats! It looks like many of us had some good outcomes this holiday....
  11. Glad you found them, we like them for rush suppers!!!! I hope you enjoy them....
  12. Holidays in general can be pretty depressing then throw in a new illness.... hugs to you.....Please don't dwell in what others have, your turn & time will come...you don't know the others money situation or their thought process..they may not be ready for a new home & may end up biting off more than they have funds...
  13. TERRIFIC... do glad all went so well..it is amazing what we can do when we are determined... I had a major biggie today!... I conquered a recipe to gluten-free! It is a soft pastry dough rolled around clothespins or dowel rods then filled. It is a Pa recipe that is on almost every cookie table for weddings & holidays...
  14. Hello & Welcome.... I think there are hundreds of us who have been told depression, "all in your head" , stress & so many more things before a true dx's,.......... very sad but the great news is someone mentioned the "C" word & it isn't cancer but celiac.... It is almost like a miracle when someone...
  15. You are correct staying away from any of the wheat family, rye, barley...Being wheat free is not the same as being gluten free...gluten lurks in almost every thing! marinades, sauces, coatings, soy sauce, beer & so much more.. I agree that you should stick to a whole foods plan... Stay away from processed foods gluten...
  16. First off, find a new doctor, no doctor who understands celiac disease would have a patient go off gluten before testing so yes , maybe idiot is a correct word ! That was a waste of time & blood & money for him to do that..... There could be a good chance you could be celiac or ncgs with a sibling already...
  17. I love my zo...... heavy motor used it for years & still working.....costs a little more up front but lasts forever....
  18. I agree with the others & please consider what Bartful stated..... another thought is they have the monthly gluten-free boxes where you pay monthly & get some tasty gluten-free products shipped right to the door.. You can do a month or several depending on your budget....Fruit bouquets are also nice....
  19. It always is scary eating at someone else's home....as we all know we can get ill from grandma's cooking...but the nice thing is your Mom got it & she will give it her best shot to keep you safe.....& another good point is you know mishaps happen so serve yourself first & pass on foods you are not sure of....maybe...
  20. hello & welcome celiac is a hard disease to swallow for many. but it is what it is so at some point you will have to bite the bullet & go back to being gluten-free 100% of the time 24/7 for life... celiac is not just a diet it truly is a lifestyle change.. ANd NO ONE Wants to have it...You did it before &...
  21. I'm not a big fan of Bob's Red Mill stuff but I do like their pie crusts mix....
  22. Our local grocery stores just carry GoodBye GLuten ( fresh) & udi's & schar... Can't seem to talk them into anything else! It depends on where you live.. Some areas are big on gluten-free others not so much...
  23. a win win for you keep the roaster as it is good for many things....we have even baked sweets in it when we had no gas for the oven......
  24. The electric roaster is all we ever cook our bird in!!!! I think you will use it many times....It does cook a bit faster & also will cook faster without the bird being stuffed.... Sorry about the oven, I think we all have days like that..my mom used to say everything comes in three's, I hope not!!! enjoy the bird...
  25. odd, they state gluten-free right on front of package...they have both wheat ones & the gluten-free ones at Sam's side by side.......
