ARCHIVED If you could correct one misconception about celiac, what would it be?
notme replied to Jmg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i was at a meeting recently, where they serve dinner, ironically the meeting is at a communitiy room at our local hospital (where the meal is catered by the hospital cafeteria and i do not eat BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DO GLUTEN FREE. AT A HOSPITAL.) but i digress.... 'oh, my doctor told me i have that, too. i just can't stop eating bread ha ha ha' as she... -
i find that i can tolerate some foods that were off limits to me (soy, certain veggies, ice cream, chocolate, etc) if i do not eat them two days in a row, for whatever reason. i'm thinking histamines. whatever it is, i can eat many more/different foods. i usually eat the same sort of food/meal every 3 days. i was puzzled why i could eat something one...

yeah, i'm with cyclinglady - the deep freeze has been a blessing. i make stuff and put it in individual portions, so if it's just me eating, i'll get out one portion. if more than one, i just take that amount out. i do better with beans that i cook from dry (navy, pinto, etc) rather than the canned ones, even though most are safe. for whatever reason...

ARCHIVED If you could correct one misconception about celiac, what would it be?
notme replied to Jmg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
'but you look fine' and 'i wish i was skinny like you' ugh. for just one day, i would like to wear my intestines on the outside of my body lolz nothing like 25 years of damage from misdiagnosis (hopefully, they're not that scary anymore) also, everybody who thinks 'o, no big deal. you just hafta order off the gluten free menu' ummmmm. nope... -
i third it. if i was glutened, i would be out of commission for a lot longer than a whole day, because of inflammation. i eat the barilla, but i don't have issues with corn (soy, however, will make me feel terrible for a day. that's how i know it's not gluten - if it was, it would take longer to get back to normal. one day is long enough to get it out...

notme replied to Egenglert's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
this is an old thread, but it appears that the mushroom & buckwheat soup is the only recipe on here. -
note: this is a very old thread, with possibly outdated info. if you have a question about your soap ingredients, please research in the present

ARCHIVED Gluten issue OR ms??
notme replied to Rosemilyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
a friend of mine, who has been diagnosed celiac, is also being tested for ms she was hospitalized because they thought she had a stroke and she was having trouble using her left side. it seems like every other day they are poking at her and testing her and changing her dx. (i don't think she's doing the diet in 'detail' and i keep urging her to come here... -
thank you i will look for it. i was switching around ( culturelle, walgreens probiotic, walgreens probiotic with enzymes, just plain digestive enzymes) so, i know what you mean. at that point, i couldn't tell what was messing with my gut and what wasn't bothering me. ima try those, and *just* those and see how it goes. thanx again!

i did exactly the same thing: went off them because i was uncertain if they contained gluten. (also, i stopped with the digestive enzymes for the same reason) but lately, i am wanting to try them again. what brand tested safe, if you don't mind me asking?

i eat at MY red robin all the time - whoever said it's so nice to feel 'normal' and grab a burger, how right you are!! so, the one closest to me (knoxville) hasn't done me in yet but i did eat at one in madeira ohio that was not safe (it was the one at the mall, not the other one) so, it depends on which one i guess. the one in rockaway mall in nj is...

next weekend we are meeting the besties in concord nc and we will be traveling from east tennessee. i was looking around asheville to maybe stop for lunch/brunch. just wondering if there's places to eat around the racetrack (staying 1/2 mile from the track) or even concessions inside the racetrack that would have safe options. still going to bring safe...

ARCHIVED New England Road Trip with Celiac Daughter
notme replied to GFMom58's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
ditto - also, find me gluten free is not infallable, i usually look for recent reviews and celiac advice. buzzwords: dedicated kitchen space, celiac friendly, etc, but i have found it to be very helpful in being able to enjoy some safe meals not fingerprinted by ME (which is sooooo nice!!) but, ya know, human beings are writing the reviews and some people...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Label says "naturally gluten free food"
notme replied to TammyTE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i think they just like chucking the word 'natural' in there, so it sounds healthier. and gluten free or not, i'm not eating that weasel..... eewww.... -
ARCHIVED Can you help settle this between my husband and I?
notme replied to Washingtonmama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
truth! lolz! i still used my kitchen aid mixer, but always was paranoid about 100 years of regular flour sneaking out of the mixer itself (it used to be my mom's and it was well worn) last Christmas i got a shiny new red one that doesn't sound like a bulldozer. so, ya know, if hubs really wants to be a butthead, hit him in the wallet -
ARCHIVED Blood Test ?
notme replied to Scuff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
^^^^^^ good info, tips and tricks^^^^^^^^^ yes, crumbs will make you sick. also, breathing flour/pancake mix, etc that is in the air because eventually, you're going to swallow some. -
don't forget how sneaky celiac is: i never noticed how incredibly awful i felt (and it was over a long period of being undiagnosed/never heard of celiac until it almost killed me) because it creeeeeeped up. a little migraine here, a little neck pain there, allll the gi symptoms, a little rashy rash here, a little pneumonia there, a little less energy here...

ARCHIVED Medical marijuana?
notme replied to Auberon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
(*ahem*) IF it was legal in my state, i would tell you that it is ridiculously helpful because it would be the only thing that would make me more hungry than dreading eating. i would tell you that it will stop hiccups, so it soothes nerves and it has been shown to be advantageous in the treatment of so many different conditions - even ptsd and parkinsons... -
ARCHIVED To test or not to test
notme replied to Cjm1985's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
this is a very common subject on here. personally, most of my tests were negative, but i did the same thing you did (stopped eating gluten before the tests) my gi advised me to continue eating gluten free because i was so malnourished and when i stopped the gluten i actually began to gain weight. in other words, i think she was afraid for me to do the challenge... -
ARCHIVED Total disappearance of common colds?
notme replied to jddh's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
meeeeeee!!!! i used to get pneumonia every single winter!!!! and all the flus and colds, etc - i am surrounded by kids and germs, but when they all get the flu, i do not. my husband (mr-play-through-the-pain) even got knocked down (spent 2-3 days in BED miserable) by the last round of virus, but not me. not to mention no headaches, no migraines, etc... -
ARCHIVED I need support from those who know
notme replied to EasterLily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
consider just one crumb can make your body attack itself - for much longer than the offending crumb is actually in your body, because it causes all sorts of inflammation. so, yeah, get yourself some new condiments and mark them (i use the skull & crossbones - because if you gluten me i will kill you lolz) so that they are yours only! it's very likely... -

ARCHIVED How do I go out to eat?!
notme replied to Washingtonmama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
imitation crabmeat has wheat. check to make sure your omelette isn't thickened with pancake batter or flour (some restaurants do this) i would not eat at a chinese buffet (or any buffet lolz) in your case, i would make everybody go to pf changs or eat ahead of time and enjoy a glass of wine with pleasant company at the restaurant
