  1. I echo what's been said here--if you are gluten-free, your chances should be "normal." And some women who are not diagnosed have no problems either--its not necessarily a majority that do. I have a friend with Celiac who is pregnant right now--and she had the same concern! So, there are a lot of babies out there with Celiac mothers
  2. Lisa- I agree with Tiffany, if you have DH, you have Celiac...and the benefits are just as valuable to you as to the rest of us--and just as crucial. You may not have some of the worse symptoms yet, but it is only a matter ot time before the damage catches up with you...I do believe that. I'm glad I was able to encourage you a bit. Please let us know...
  3. Joe- What a cool friend! I still haven't seen ramapo, but have had Bard's Tale and it is pretty good. I'm more of a cider/hard alcohol person than beer...but glad you found it to be pretty good. I think more gluten-free beers are on the way!
  4. Tamara--wow, the sacrafices you've made are really inspiring! And as Tiffany has discussed--you really made your kids your first priority! Good to hear stories like that. I love this forum b/c I see so many ways of living life--gives me much to think about!
  5. Jessica- Don't worry!! An endscopy is pretty painless--being hungry is the worst part! It is a quick procedure to go thru to end up on a road to better health. Don't worry about going gluten-free either. Take it one step at a time. There are literally hundreds of people here who were in your shoes, overwhelmed, not knowing where to start, and now the...
  6. Did you buy one with the lactob. cultures? I always make sure to see Lactobacillus listed on the label--not assume. It is a huge help to me in balancing out yeast etc. I take it when I am getting sick and always when I am on an antibiotic--since then I've never had an infection. As Stefi mentioned, it is also helps replace good bacteria in the gut.
  7. hey girl! ck out these 2 other posts on lunch ideas too: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link as for me, i usually take a big salad w/mixed greens, lots of veggies like carrots, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, celery, jicama etc. and i'll put any combo of the following on that: ham or chicken lunch meat (i use deli selects...
  8. alicia- good for you, sounds like your kids are doing well! jnkmnky-that's a great idea. so far i'm impressed with your school oh, and one more thought on my mention of 'head start'. when i started they told me i was supposed to sit down and eat each meal with the kids and that the kids needed to see me eating the same food. that was pre...
  9. well, maybe you could 'sneak' a decaf every once in a while. (since they still can have a measure of caffeine). but i'm not endorsing that! if you're like my dad, you won't give it up...he is supposed to give up coffee, has barret's espophagus etc., but for christmas he wanted a cappuccino maker. go figure!
  10. I definitely agree with that jnkmnky. I look back on my 'brief' stint of babysitting and couldn't believe what the kids ate and what foods were in their house. Not having a recess?? I couldn't imagine that! I worked in a school system for Head Start for a year, was grossed out by some of the henious foods they were served! Anyone see 'Supersize Me?'...
  11. vin-read this thread on osteo. scroll down to see posts and my experience with treatments etc: Open Original Shared Link
  12. Nathela- Hello and Welcome! First off, I never did have to "re-introduce" gluten, that would be hard. But it can be done... I have had 3 endoscopies and they are really nothing to worry about. I never had any issues with mine--a slight sore throat after one of them, but that was it. The hardest part is not eating for a day I understand struggling...
  13. Me too Very cool--we have an 'advocate' on the WSJ now
  14. Becky- I'd opt for the doctor or start with elmination diet if you are set against it. If it is Celiac, which symptoms are consistent with, an allergist will be of no help. The harder choice up front may be easier long term. Good luck!
  15. chestnut-way to think positive! my fav gluten-free bread: kinnikinnick's italian white tapioca. i think manna from anna (mix you bake) has a great soft texture too.
  16. Lisa- Can you post where you found that information? My dad is and has been on Nexum for a long time. Just curious to read more. Gracias!
  17. I would regift too Let your dh know of someone trying to be thoughtful...then pass on the goodies. Good news this time of year--saving on calories I guess!
  18. Hi there! Below I have pasted a recent post I made on the diff. of lactose and casein intolerance. If dairy/casein bothers you, go ahead and cut it out. It shouldn't affect the results of your biopsy for Celiac. If you are wanting to be officially tested for casein intolerance, you can order tests thru the following 2 labs. I used Great Plains (they...
  19. yes, congratulations i guess! this has been such a long process for you. i'm sure you're glad to 'have it over.' !!
  20. hillshire farms packaged meats are gluten-free. i use the deli selects--they are gluten-free too. sara lee says all their packaged meats are gluten-free (that includes the hillshire farms etc). see the meats here: Open Original Shared Link
  21. Monica- great news! congrats gluten-free baking successes are no small triumph to be either !
  22. I am similar to Tiffany. There are only about 3 or 4 people I trust to cook for me. There are even some very close friends I do not trust in that manner, simply b/c they are not educated enough or really "detail-oriented." I had 3 holiday parties this weekend and brought my own food to each. 2 of them I brought a salad to share with everyone, and then...
  23. Ha ha Ian! Your coworker stories always make me laugh
  24. I feel for ya...that also happens to me. I have had fibro type pain for several years now...but on a different note, I get that kind-of pain/fatigue you are describing too. My mom and I used to go shopping for an entire day with little consequence. Now I really have a hard time pushing through half a day. It helps to bring snacks, take several breaks...
