ARCHIVED In The Middle Of Testing
nvsmom replied to Em314's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, but sorry you have to be here. Your blood tests look very positive. (I'm not familiar with the GLAB tests but my mind is a bit foggy with a cold tonight.) With so many positive tests, that's really indicative of celiac; I doubt you are a false positive as that's pretty rare. With a biopsy, most celiacs have said that their damage...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Understand My Results
nvsmom replied to shadowseek's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You most likely have celiac disease with a positive ttg IgA, and your test is beyond what the lab considers to be a weak positive. EMA is a good test to confirm celiac disease with, but it could end up with a negative result. Not all celiacs test positive for all blood tests. In fact, some celiacs test negative on all blood tests but show upper intestinal... -

ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
nvsmom replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is possible that levothyroxine has some gluten in it. Synthroid is gluten-free, although they won't guarantee it (for legal reasons I'm guessing). I am going through a similar problem with synthroid right now. I am hoping my doctor will switch me to armour or Naturethroid because almost all of my hypothyroid symptoms have become worse since starting... -
ARCHIVED What Do My Test Results Mean?
nvsmom replied to NStock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah... not many people get a positive tTG IgA if their IGA is low. Your blood tests are very positive. Your doctor may or may not order a biopsy to confirm; not all doctors do it now a days. If he wants to biopsy, you'll have to decide if you want it or need it for a firm diagnosis. It is usually recommended that you continue eating gluten until you are...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Help Please! Test Results From 2006
nvsmom replied to rileybennett's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor repeatedly called my TSH of 4-7 normal and I wasn't educated about subclinical Hypothyroidism TSH ranges then...or the fact that I should have requested the actual results instead of the doctor just saying' It's normal". Because my TSH was "normal" not other tests were ever ordered. it was the 90's and I hadn't discovered Dr Google yet. -

ARCHIVED Blood Tests Positive..do I Really Need A Biopsy?
nvsmom replied to VeggieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is possible to get a false positive but it's not very common. If you have a few tests that are postive, that make sit much more unlikely that it's a false positive. The EMA IgA is (I believe -I'm not medically trained though) is extremely specific to celiac so if you had that test, plus another positive, then in my opinion it's pretty likely that you... -

Ah, geez. I understand your frustration at your doctors, my doctors did the same thing to me with my Hashimotos... It's hard knowing you could have felt better years earlier. EBV, from what I know (and I am not medically trained) can often kick off autoimmune disorders in people prone to developing them. I personally became quite ill from an AI disease... -
ARCHIVED Hashimotos, Celiac And Now Muscle Pain!
nvsmom replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and celiac disease at almost the same time, and I am having lots of joint problems and hypo symptoms too. I think my problem is with the synthroid I'm on, my body seems to not agree with it so I'm hoping to switch to something more natural and get to a proper dose soon. I've heard that people get many symptoms while... -
ARCHIVED Cc'd Or Headcold....
nvsmom replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like germs to me, but as you know, we all react to cc differently so it very well could be gluten. I recommend homeopathic remedies for colds. Drugstores often have them now. I have a reduced immune system and if I take homeopathic remedies the duration of my illness is usually much shorter. Hope you feel better! Getting sick in time for the... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until Stomach Ache Goes Away?
nvsmom replied to smpalesh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My stomach aches improved after about a week and was MUCH better after a couple of months. It takes a while to get better, and thje first few weeks can be tough if you experience withdrawl. I would suggest going dairy free for a while too. Almond and coconut milks are tastey and often fortified with vitamins. For added protein, you can add vegan protein... -
ARCHIVED Not Getting Better Please Help
nvsmom replied to jamesM11's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are certain that you've eliminated cc, you could look to other causes for your pain. Crohns, colitis, and hashimoto's can cause stomach issues, as can more rare AI disorders. It could be something to check into. Best wishes. I hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED 2 1/2 Years Later Still Not Absorbing?
nvsmom replied to KrazyKick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry you're not well yet. It is possible that there is something else wrong. I personally have hypothyroidism and many of the symptoms overlap that of celiac disease. My thyroid meds aren't ideal at the moment so I have a lot of symptoms that I would have mistaken for celiac if I didn't know better. Making a list of symptoms and googling them... -
(hugs) Suzanne Somers has a couple of good books out on health and one on treating cancer is very well researched. I think it's called Knockout or Breakthrough. It had some good ideas that made sense. It could be worth looking at. Take care.

ARCHIVED Four Year Old's Blood Test "slightly Abnormal" For Celiac
nvsmom replied to javic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those are pretty positive tests, so according to the blood tests he most likely is a celiac. Some people and doctors like to get an endoscopy to confirm the damage is consistent with celiac (and there is no sign of any other problem) and to get a baseline to start from. Some doctors won't give an official diagnosis without an endoscopy. That diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Feeling A Little Sorry For Myself.
nvsmom replied to Mgyoung77's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED My 6 Year Old Just Diagnosed - Question About Reflexes
nvsmom replied to Mayasmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Slow reflexes can also be a sign of hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's) which is more common amoungst celiacs than the regular population. To test thyroid function, request a TSH (should be near a 1), free T4 and free T3, and TPO ab (to see if there are antibodies attacking the thyroid). Best of luck. I hope you find some answers. -
ARCHIVED Behavioral Issues With 4 Year Old Celiac
nvsmom replied to JacksMomma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(hugs) I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time right now. I hope you find helpful advice around the forum. My 10 year old son most likely has mild Aspergers (we haven't pusued a complete diagnosis) and has some of the behaviours you describe. When he was a toddler it was fairly easy to have the boy who was happy to sit and line up cans of food... -
ARCHIVED Four Year Old's Blood Test "slightly Abnormal" For Celiac
nvsmom replied to javic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I like to compare celiac testing to pregnancy tests; a pregnancy test can be just slightly positive but you can't be just a little bit pregnant. Like a pregnanct test, there are a few unusual circumstances that could give a false positive but it's not likely in a healthy individual without any other gastrointestinal conditions. Young children can often have... -
I didn't realize my migraines were caused by gluten until I went gluten-free. I used to get them for about 2 weeks of the month and now I'm down to just a few days. The two times that I did get glutened (in the first month or so) I ended up with a migraine that lasted a few days and I was tired, so I know for me that there is a definite link. And yeah...

ARCHIVED Pre-Diagnosis
nvsmom replied to NecroD314's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear you've been unwell, but that's great to hear that you are already showing improvements on the gluten-free diet. Those first weeks are pretty hard, especially if you go through a withdrawl of sorts which can make you feel pretty poorly on top of deprived. My advice would be to treat yourself to gluten-free treats over the next few weeks... -
