ARCHIVED I Dont Get It?
elonwy replied to minibabe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
ok - This is bizzarre, I don't like kids cereal. I had a dream last night that I found a mini box of Trix in a friends kitchen that was gluten free, and was hiding from them in their apartment trying to eat the trix before they found me and realized I was eating thier cereal. Can it get weirder? I blame this thread. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED I'm Going To The U.s, Need Some Help
elonwy replied to loken23's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I can't really help with stores in that area, as I'm on the West Coast, but about the bread on the plane thing. You can bring it in, as long as it's for private consumption, and you won't be selling it or trying to promote it as a product. So a doctors note might help with customs if you plan on bringing alot of food with you. You also won't be able to bring... -
ARCHIVED Nice Response From Nestle...
elonwy replied to AmandaD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nestle has also started voluntarily labeling things like thier Cocoa and their Coffee creamers Gluten free. I never thought I would say this, but I'm really liking them as a company. (the hippy in me cringes) Elonwy -

elonwy replied to Sagesmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED Cereal Question - Need Help
elonwy replied to Nashville's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've eaten the rice twice quite a bit. The only issue I've ever had with it is that it had NO fiber at all, and if I eat to much rice products I get C from lack of fiber. I add dried nuts and fruit and that seems to help with that. I am very sensetive, so I would have reacted. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Annie's gluten-free Macaroni And Cheese
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like a little fresh ground black pepper, and I use a Louisiana Hot Sauce called Red Rooster. Mmmmm. I actually put Red Rooster on EVERYTHING. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Annie's gluten-free Macaroni And Cheese
elonwy replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the Annies. They're not like the Tinkyada noodles, they're not as forgiving, you have to get them JUST right or they get kinda sandy tasting. I've been adding the Kraft Mac and cheese shakey cheese to the cheese to boost it a little. I found the Kraft mac and cheese cheese at the third store I looked in. It was right next to the parmesan Kraft Shakey... -
ARCHIVED New Cocoa Puffs
elonwy replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was at my local Albertsons, and though I don't even go down the cereal/bread aisle anymore I thought I'd look. They had new ones and old ones side by side. The new ones do say "New More chocolatey flavor" and the old ones have wheat starch and Oats in them. I didn't buy any, I can't abide the taste of chocolate cereal, but I did look just to know that there... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Broth
elonwy replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Grits
elonwy replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Grits is basically ground up corn thats not small enough to be corn meal. I used to like the white grits, the ones served in restaurants, but I've discovered Arrowhead mills Yellow grits and I like it much better. The yellow ones use the whole corn kernel, so have more nutritional value too. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Grits
elonwy replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't trust Quaker products in the US. They have stated on multuple occasions that there is a cross contamination risk with everything they make and that nothing is made on dedicated lines. Thats enough for me to steer clear. I buy arrowhead Mills, which I get at Whole Foods. Its not instant, but as a breakfast its not that hard to make. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Corned Beef And Cabbage?
elonwy replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've found for many people, if its not something you had as a kid, its not something you'll like. I love corned beef and cabbage, but I grew up eating it, so I have a fondness for it. Many people for whom its a new experience don't get it. I'm laughing at my own culture, cause I grew up surrounded by women from Ireland who's idea of how to cook was to put... -
ARCHIVED Corned Beef In Florida

ARCHIVED Corned Beef And Cabbage?
elonwy replied to GlutenFreeAl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can also use a dutch oven, or pretty much any casserole dish with a cover. I myself, will be making corned beef and cabbage this friday to celebrate my irish heritage. Put the corned beef in the dutch oven or casserole dish. Cover completely with water and add a tablespoon of whole peppercorns, a couple bay leaves and if you like, a little garlic. Cook... -
ARCHIVED Would You Eat Cheetos?
elonwy replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love cheetos. I eat them all the time. My fav now are the baked "natural" white cheddar puffs. Ooooh I can eat a whole bag by myself if I'm not careful. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Manufactured gluten-free Products
elonwy replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm going to have to stick up for Annie's rice mac and cheese in a box. The Deboles stuff is horrid but the Annies stuff is alot like kraft mac and cheese and the noodles are pretty good. (Don't overcook them). I fed some to my non-celiac BF last night and he really liked it. Next I'm going to experiment with adding the kraft cheese to make it even cheesier... -
ARCHIVED Lady Issues...
elonwy replied to penguin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I first did the south beach diet I did it with a friedn and niether of us got our period. We were both freaking out seperatly until we talked about it and then it was very funny. A word of caution though, if you don't have your period for more than six months, check with your doctor. It can be an early warning of osteoporosis. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Cooked Or Raw Onions
elonwy replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Cereal?
elonwy replied to WGibs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure if I've come across the Honey Rice ones, but I have yet to find a Puffin Cereal that doesn't have oats. They all say wheat free, but have oats in them. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Response From Lush Cosmetics
elonwy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is the response I received from Lush cosmetics: Hi Elonwy! Thank you for taking the time to email us, it is important to make sure that you take all precautions when dealing with severe allergies of that nature. All of our perfumes come from essential oils and are listed in the ingredients. We had an inquiry of a similar nature once before, so... -
ARCHIVED Marshmallow Peeps
elonwy replied to kevsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like them just a little bit stale too. I have to say the strawberry heart Peeps I got from my BF for valentines day were really, really yummy. Just a hint of strawberry flavor. I'm going to the grocery store after work today to do a normal shopping run, and after this thread, have taken out my list and added peeps. Thanks guys. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Do You Eat It If It Doesn't Say "gluten-free"?
elonwy replied to gemma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been totally fine with Fritos, but I know the oil/salt content can give normal people tummy aches. I eat alot of things that aren't labeled "gluten free". I do as much research as humanly possible, and if I react to something even after that, I weed out what I reacted too and cut it out. Perfect example - C&W frozen veggies, I called the company... -
ARCHIVED Heading To Whole Foods For The 1st Time!
elonwy replied to mrsnj91's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole foods differs wildly from store to store, depending on size and space. Mine doesn't have an Aisle, but each Aisle tends to group its gluten-free goodies into one section, so thats nice. I have gotten them to carry things for me too. Check out Annies gluten-free Rice Mac and Cheese in a box if they have it, its just like kraft mac N Cheese. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Breads
elonwy replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Trix
elonwy replied to Mindy35's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I too, hate "kid" cereal. I just don't like eating that much sugar, and if I am getting sugar, would much rather be enjoying a bag of M&M's. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Check these out, these are my new favs Elonwy
