  1. Happy Birthday!!!
  2. There are many different types of bamboo. Bamboo is basically just really big grass. The giant woody strains make great cheap sustainable building materials, and the edible kind is smaller and ..edible. Most edible bamboo is harvested as shoots, and chances are if you've eaten chinese or Thai food, you've had bamboo (looks like little flat yellow pieces of...
  3. I'm not but I went a-googling. Have you seen these: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link and of course these guys: Coeliac Society of South Africa Box No 64203 Highlands North Johannesburg 2037 South Africa Telephone: +27 11 440 3431 E-mail Johannesburg Coeliac Society of South Africa Contact: Mrs. M. 4. Friable just means "easily irritated and prone to bleeding". Why this is often associated with Std's, some people are just made this way. I have bled every pap smear I've ever had. I have an easily irritated cervix that is prone to bleeding if you so much as give it a stern look. When I was younger I used to bleed every time I had sex, which is totally...
  5. Please post how!
  6. Well, public transportation can get you anywhere in SF. I never drive in the city. You must check out this place: Open Original Shared Link Its up in the castro, and its the most amazing vietnamese food, and half their menu is gluten-free. You can use this site: Open Original Shared Link to help you find the right transit options. The cool thing is,...
  7. I was reacting to the enchiladas, but it turns out I can't eat bell peppers. So sad, cause they are nummy.
  8. You've hit most of the sushi issues right on. I eat sushi all the time, I take little packets of gluten-free soy sauce with me, and just get everything without wasabi or any of the sauces. I've actually really gotten to like the sushi without any soy sauce at all, after having forgotten my packets a few times. Beware all sauces and condiments, "spicy" additives...
  9. Hey I just sent you a PM with restaurants/stores but forgot to save a copy. Could you reply to this on the forums so I don't have to type it again? Thanks
  10. I second the Pamela's chocolate cake mix. I made a cake out of that for a party and used cream cheese icing (my favorite). It was amazing. If you add a little vanilla and make a few layers, it also makes a mean german chocolate cake (my second favorite).
  11. You mustn't forget these: Cafe Mariposa (Oakland) gluten-free Bakery. -frozen pizzas to take home, bagels, breads, delicious! (Sneak in the wine store next door for gluten-free beer) Bobby G's Pizzaria (On University in Berkeley)- gluten-free pizza with Still Ridin' Crusts, has a much better take on what's gluten-free in their toppings and CC than...
  12. As a lazy typist, I give you the link to the prior thread Open Original Shared Link
  13. Its all about low waisted and stretch. I wear Lucky's and some Old Navy jeans. I have a hard time cause I'm short with relatively thin legs but I have a booty. Most designer jeans aren't made for my body type. I do wear jeans that are a tad bit loose and then wear a belt cause then I can adjust as the day goes on.
  14. I was reacting to Amy's enchiladas (they are SO YUMMY!). Turns out I can't eat bell peppers. Since thats not something thats in my diet a lot except for mexican, took a while to figure out. Silly nightshades. Another good one is the Thai kitchen rice bowls (again not all are gluten-free). Its like ramen but it's made with rice noodles and actually tastes...
  15. When having it at other peoples houses, I make my own cornish game hen and sides, and just bring my own food. Fussy eater, weirdo or whatever, I'm not going to suffer just because someone else can't deal with my diet. If you're sister is cool, talk to her about it, but if they don't get it, even if they try to make food gluten-free for you the chances of...
  16. Not quite what I think you're looking for, but I use Pamela's baking mix for almost anything I would use flour for. Breading onion rings, biscuits, you name it. I have found that it is very similar to Bisquick except for one thing, it can't hold up size wise. Everything I made with it I make small so that it doesn't get crumbly or start breaking. It also...
  17. I no longer live in SoCal, so haven't been to a Pick up Stix in ages. They used to have a gluten-free menu online, which I can no longer find. It basically stated, anything with the garlic sauce, with a clean wok. Obviously things like spring rolls were not ok. I contacted them on thier web site to ask where the gluten-free info went to.
  18. As far as the placebo issue is concerned, in order to have good solid results, unfortunately that is necessary. Everyone going into a study like this is well aware that they may not be getting the real meds. It sucks for those people, but control groups are necessary in this kind of science.
  19. Beware Soup Freaks, they just had the audacity to tell me that their Matzo balls are gluten-free. San Francisco Soup company states gluten-free or not right on the daily soup menu though.
  20. My ex-boyfriend had a terrible reaction to Mussels once (no allergies, no other health issues). The GI at the ER said that mussels are the most common reaction causing shellfish. A lot of people can't tolerate mussels, whether it be the toxins or the fish themselves. I don't like shellfish because I can't deal with grit. Even the best washed shellfish has...
  21. Mochiko or another type of sweet rice flour? I can't stand the taste of Amaranth, so would lean that direction myself. That looks so good. Nacho cheese is a serious downfall of mine
  22. I'm going to chime in with Pamela's shortbread makes an amazing crust. Just crumble and add a little butter.
  23. Mine have gotten a little better but are still there. My mom has them too. Definitely not an iron issue with either of us. I don't really wear make up except for special occasions though.
  24. For pumpkin pie I take Pamela's shortbread (plain or pecan, if pecan take the big nut pieces out) and crumble them up with butter and press them into a pie pan. I have learned I have to make two, because everyone wants my pie and ignores the regular pumpkin pie.
  25. Gluten Monkeys! Kinda like space monkeys? Next time I am glutened from an unknown source I'll be sure to blame it on the gluten monkeys. That awesome
