  1. Yes - a cutting board very well could be the culprit. You can give your parents a plastic floppy cutting board (inexpensive) to use for you exclusively so it doesn't get cross contaminated. Another board member gives her friends/family these and finds it helpful.
  2. Perhaps how or where the meat was prepared, seasonings used, cutting board used to slice, can all be sources of cross contamination. Some brands of meat are not gluten free. Boars Head and Hormel, for instance, label their products gluten free. Have you ever read the labels if you bought the meat that you got sick from?
  3. What a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing! I hope you get a reply with the information you were looking for.
  4. If you have a Costco membership one that is worth considering is the BlendTec. I am considering getting one myself when the time strikes to splurge on myself again. I have read many and great reviews for BlendTec and the Vitamix.
  5. Soy lecithin is also commonly used in chocolate.. just wanted to say that in case you are getting hit twice. I've never payed attention to corn so I don't know if that is a common chocolate additive.
  6. Hey Stephanie, Your doctor is a bit confused about 'glutinous rice.' The name of the rice is misleading. It is just meant to be defined with the glutinous reference to being sticky. Rice absolutely doesn't have the gluten that Celiac's react to. Wheat, barley rye and oats are what trigger Celiac symptoms. Yes, you are right about lactose intolerance and...
  7. Have you hit the wall, so to speak, when you are getting the nausea? Can you time your rides/track your HR, etc. to pin point when it is happening? It is possible you are doing too much.
  8. I think you pretty much figured out that you have a big risk for cross contamination when you're sharing pots and pans with the gluten eaters in the house. You can try getting your own set, explain the risk to them, and hope they won't cross contaminate a new set. You should definitely care for your own health. How can you continue to spread the word if you...
  9. I second the pizza stone option. Amazon has great deals on them.
  10. Good luck! Hoping for good things to come.
  11. SO glad to read this thread. It can be a roller coaster ride of emotions after you get diagnosed and start healing. Most days are good for me but I still have the random 'off' day. I recognize it, warn the necessary people and typically retreat and do some soul-searching so I don't lash out.
  12. I would continue to eat it and get blood tested (as already described by Karen) to be sure. If the test were negative would you always wonder if it was a false negative? I would... just a thought.
  13. I agree with Fenrir - abdominal pain that is consistent in location and nature should be discussed with your doctor and worked up accordingly.
  14. Thanks for the brand name recommendation. The ones I have used I have not seen an improvement with. Forget the name though. I'll try these when I run out of the ones I have.
  15. There is no use worrying over PBC yet. Hep C and alcohol are big hits for liver damage... those alone can cause liver failure. I just encourage you to wait on the extensive tests that were ordered and try not to stress over it. The liver also has the capability to heal.. so keep that in mind.
  16. Yeah... unfortunately if it is microscopic colitis the only treatment that I was informed about was the non-treatment approach and if it was bad enough you would be put on immuno-suppressants (which is something I want to avoid, personally). But it really depends on the severity of your symptoms. Let's see what the colonoscopy says... it may yield more information...
  17. If you had a positive blood test for celiac... then the inconclusive one is null and extraneous information. You should not be eating gluten-light but truly gluten free. I would definitely stop eating gluten to avoid this symptom. I've never had this symptom but celiac is linked with infertility so it likely has a larger role.
  18. ((HUGS)) I have diarrhea still.. immodium helped temporarily. I find that I still have triggers in my diet.. not gluten.. something else. Do you keep a food diary? Perhaps you have some colitis happening... it's very common for microscopic colitis and celiacs to be diagnosed together. I actually might have to get a colonoscopy/biopsy too if mine doesn't resolve...
  19. Yes - and the mood swings for me were almost as bad as the mood swings when I get glutened. I get celiac angry.. it's incredible the change in personality. It's a funny thing.
  20. I most certainly did try cream of buckwheat! I used the Pocono brand, though. I liked it a lot! I actually love the cream of brown rice that I'm currently eating for breakfast. It's just as easy to make on the stove before work as the buckwheat was. It's also cheaper/easier to find than the buckwheat! You've got a great memory.
  21. So sorry to hear about all your troubles.. you've had a helluva time. Glad to hear that you can close that chapter and start anew.
  22. Nausea isn't that uncommon, I think. I had that as a symptom (in conjunction with others). It took about 2 months for my nausea to really subside. Be patient and keep with the diet. Whole foods tend to be best for the newly diagnosed. Also I know I had a hard time digesting even veggies so preparing them pureed can be helpful with digestion. Many take probiotics...
  23. Liver enzymes can be elevated in association with celiac disease. Have you stopped eating gluten or have you talked to your doctor about an endoscopy/biopsy? Seems like they threw the book at you with testing and are being really thorough.
