  1. Great news about Kroger! Recently, I e-mailed Acme about a product's gluten-free status. A few days later, I got a call from a co rep. who answered my question and then told me he was a fellow Celiac! We chatted a few minutes--he's from the Philadelphia area, so he was not too far from me. I told him I was so happy that the small Acme in my town has begun...
  2. I almost never remembered my dreams before going gluten-free. I noticed shortly after starting the diet, I remember my dreams so much more often. I don't have nightmares, but my dreams are complicated--lots of people and places from different times in my life. Pretty entertaining, actually . I believe this is because I sleep better now and probably also...
  3. Hi Michelle--Sorry to hear you're having a hard time . I think what is happening now is part of the healing process. I have been gluten-free for a little over 8 months now--I was not one of the people who felt better right away. The D subsided rather quickly, but overall, I felt pretty bad for the first 3 months. I had fatigue (felt like I could not...
  4. Cheri--I was searching this afternoon, and found one right here! Go to Gluten Free Food at the left of the screen. Then to Baking Ingredients, and scroll down to Authentic Foods Sorghum Flour. Their ad says they're made in a facility dedicated to gluten-free--or some words to that effect. I will be ordering some. And wouldn't you know it, I just placed...
  5. Welcome Rose--glad you found us!
  6. Not to keep off the track here--but I had to add that my mom is a Taurus, and there is no one more stubborn than her Thanks--I feel better now.
  7. Carrie--Please keep us posted. Good luck at the doctor
  8. Elonwy--from what you said, I think you nailed it! Hope you feel better today
  9. Yes--what Nini said is true. While I didn't know about the gluten free diet, either, before all of this started for me, I also may have thought that it was an optional type of diet. But to say something like that out loud to someone is just rude. You never know what someone is going through--
  10. Ha Ha--I think I just answered this in your other thread about baking! As I said, I think I'm becomming intolerant to rice, also. In Dangerous Grains, the author talks about some people with Celiac not being able to eat rice, either. I posted the section--it was short--a while back. When I drink rice milk--Pacific Foods Brand--I get symptoms exactly like...
  11. Susie--I seem to be in the same boat as you. I am increasingly sensitive to rice. I believe I proved that yesterday by having spanish rice for dinner, and chocolate cake--homemade using Ener-g rice flour mix. At 4 AM, I woke up nauseous. This morning, I'm very itchy and feel out of it. But back to your question about alternatives, I want to try and come...
  12. I lost hair as a result of my Celiac--I was also severly anemic and that, I'm sure, was a factor. I had been slowly losing hair from all over my head, but during the last 2 years before I was diagnosed, it got to the point where there were visable spots that were mostly on the top, and at the front of my head. I noticed a couple of months after I began...
  13. Hi Lisa--That does sound frustrating! It's terrible to do all the right things, see the doctor and still not get any real answers. Been there, and completely understand . I wish I could offer more, but its good that you're on something for the infection (be sure to finish all of it & take it on schedule). Let's hope that will take care of it, if...
  14. I've been dealing with these kinds of symptoms for about 2 months now. I have a lot of pressure just below my ribs, that also comes up my chest and I feel it in the base of my neck. I belch frequently--something I never used to do before. The pressure also causes me to be able to hear my heart pounding in my ears. Does this sound familiar to anyone else...
  15. I have pretty good results with taking one cup of rice flour, take out 2 tbs. and replace with potato starch. Add 1/2 tsp. of xanthan gum. I used the mix that mommida listed for Christmas cookies, and they turned out excellent--the only problem is that I now react to tapioca flour. I am going to try a mixture of rice flour, sorghum flour and potato starch...
  16. Lots of water and I find that Lipton Decaffeinated Tea helps.
  17. What a wonderful friend you have--glad you're feeling better about everything today. People like the one that made the comment are not worth worring about
  18. When they ask for a hot dog and tacos, you know they're on the road to recovery
  19. You have every right to be mad as h*ll--I got mad just reading your post! Why can't people think before they speak
  20. Ha Ha--When I was new to the board, the c followed by the d used to throw me--caught on pretty quick, though
  21. Lynne--Thank you for the good advice--I will certainly keep it in mind when talking to the doctor
  22. No / NJ /USA
  23. I don't know if it's connected, but I get that way, too.
  24. All of this eating at home is looking better to me all the time
  25. That's exactly how we feel about it!
