  1. Honestly I think yr vigilance and speed will pay off. If you get it early enough this is very effective. In my case it still helped even a bit later. You may be able to google the nerve and work out where it starts and ends, the virus typically follows this path. With me it was on my torso and I didn't realise initial burning sensation was a sign of...
  2. Hang in there. Even if the tests are negative, you may still have found your answer. I know how much you will be craving answers and certainty, but remember that once the diagnosis process is complete you can still go gluten free regardless of results and see for yourself if it resolves your symptoms. I had a negative biopsy but will never eat gluten again...
  3. It's over 20 years since I had it but from memory you started sooner than I did and it still made a difference to me, so be positive! There's some more potential treatments listed here: Open Original Shared Link but some of them look a bit superfluous to me. The advice on the eyes is good though, a friend of my father had it there and it was not a good place...
  4. It's good to hear of a positive appointment Emma It looks like you may be able to add to your auto immune poker hand Reading your symptoms some of them like palpitations for instance resolved for me on the diet. Which made me think that: may also have a refractory celiac element even if the levels are going down? https://glutenintoleranceschool...
  5. And the cakes, and the pies and the pastries, and the chinese takeaways and the... Ok, I'll stop now! I'll just add that given what you've posted above, ONLY once testing is over (because a positive blood test may lead to an endoscopy) then give the gluten free diet a proper go REGARDLESS of result. You may be like me and others, test negative but...
  6. Welcome Gertrude! There's some links collected in this thread that may be of use: You've found a good site, plenty of people here to support and offer advice. Best of luck!
  7. It's horrible! Sorry its happened to you. This was the only thing which did any good: Open Original Shared Link Not sure if it has different name state side...
  8. Hi Mike and welcome As you no doubt know, the only available tests require you to be eating gluten. Given your entirely understandable decision: You just have to focus on getting well. In any case I agree with Ravenwoodglass above, I think you've found the answer already and given there's no treatment other than the diet there's not that much...
  9. Don't get mad at yourself. Accept there will be some slip ups as you learn the diet. In this case its not certain in any case, could be something else you ate didnt agree with you. Have you checked the ingredients on the spray? You can get spray bottles which you fill with regular oil and use those instead. That would remove any doubt: Open Original...
  10. You mention not liking breakfast foods, there's no law that say you have to eat 'breakfast' type foods at breakfast! If you follow Ennis's good suggestion above of making a big slow cooked stew or soup you could have a portion of that. My own favourite is omelettes, I have one each morning and vary the fillings, could be bacon, avocado, spinach, mushrooms...
  11. Fantastic! It's always nice to read of good outcomes, thanks for sharing Reading these sites it's easy to focus on the negative, but the reality is that for most of us the gluten free diet delivers the single biggest boost to health and well being it would be possible to imagine. It's great for you both that at 6 weeks you have tangible results which...
  12. As cycling lady says above this is highly unlikely and do not discount that gluten or some other intolerance is driving or at the very least enhancing this feeling of anxiety. i tested negative for celiac but after I removed anxiety, depression and brain fog went too. i did however notice that for a longish time after my challenge that my stomach...
  13. I don't, at least not always. I'm pretty careful so for a long time now any issues I've had have been with possible contamination rather than a large ingestion of gluten. There's no flashing light or app notification, just odd symptoms that only later I can perhaps tentatively connect to cross contamination. When I ate a gluten containing meal by mistake...
  14. Hi Alex and welcome to the forum Hmm where to start. Like me and many others here you've removed gluten from your diet on a hunch, noticed a big impact on your health, mental in this case, and now you're wondering why? There are a couple of potential answers. You may have celiac, yes even with 'no symptoms'. In fact the depression could be a symptom...
  15. I think the golf club must've been closed that day. After nurse administered the smelling salts I was able to continue.
  16. Some general advice. Don't assume they've read all your notes/are completely up to date with where you're at. Have a note / printout of your symptoms in bullet form as you listed above. Have dates of when you went gluten free and any changes you've noted since. Be prepared to answer questions about your diet and lifestyle. Quite a few are things I...
  17. Hi and welcome First things first, you've found a great site, all the info you need is here along with as much support and advice as you can handle from people who know exactly what you're going through. That means not just the physical, but the mental shock to the system and grief/frustration/anger and regret at not finding out sooner. We've been there...
  18. That's definitely your best option (from a fellow Brit) If it's any consolation the dermatologist I eventually saw was the standout physician out of a not very impressive bunch in my diagnostic adventure. I almost required the crash cart when he asked me about my blood test results, he'd actually read my notes
  19. It can be confusing and there are a lot of voices out there with different opinions. There is also variance in how sensitive people are, some manage to get by with basic precautions. Some however find that as they go gluten free they become far more sensitive and have to take additional precautions. To the general public such as your partner such precautions...
  20. I'm no expert, there are others here that have a better grasp of what can happen, but sure. Obviously celiac/sensitivity aside carbs are fattening and the usual weight loss maxims apply to us as much as anyone else. The gluten free diet in itself has nothing to do with weight gain or loss as you know. Personally I think sugar and high GI foods are the biggest...
  21. Hi Ginger I lost weight initially on the diet then gained some of it back. I think some of the weight I lost was water retention, I was quite bloated and photos from back then show me with a puffy swollen face. I don't know whether one can generalise about this, there are very different reactions to the diet, but at 2 months in its certainly safe...
  22. Hi Ruth and welcome You've found what I think is the best place on the web for those of us with a gluten issue. There are some great people here with awesome experience of just what you're going through. They got through it and so will you. This struck a chord with me and doubtless others: Check out this graph, it's about learning curves...
  23. Hi and welcome Absolutely no apology neccesary! I know exactly how you felt / feel. I tested negative but was convinced I had my answer. The test wasn't conducted well but such was my reaction to the gluten-free diet I was given an endoscopy. It was also negative, but the gastro told me to avoid gluten for life and boy did I agree with him...
  24. Hi Gunnar and welcome I got stabbing chest pains in the left side of my chest for many years and underwent cardio investigation and multiple ecgs etc. They stopped when I went gluten free, but not immediately and I have had occasional twinges since then, which I attribute to cross contamination or mini glutenings. I think it was a form of heartburn,...
  25. Just a word on oats, unless they're certified gluten free they're very likely to be contaminated with actual gluten - they're often milled on the same machinery, grown in adjacent fields etc etc. Gluten free oats are available, but as above they can also generate a reaction in some. Best left until you're a few months gluten free and things have settled...
