ARCHIVED Best Cake Mixes
wolfie replied to delawaregirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just wanted to share that I made Pamelas' Chocolate Cake Mix with the sour cream in it for DS's b-day party yesterday and it was a huge hit!! Everyone raved about it and the only ones that have to eat gluten-free are DS & I. I also used the chocolate frosting recipe on the back of Hershey's Cocoa. This cake was so moist and didn't fall apart! Better... -
1. Feeling good and not crappy all the time; I had begun to think that the way I was feeling was normal as I was getting older 2. Eating healthier and staying away from highly processed foods 3. Skittles are gluten-free (kinda goes against #2) 4. Creme Brulee is naturally gluten-free 5. Not having embarassing, excessive gas anymore 6. I have...

ARCHIVED I've Started Watching The Food Network
wolfie replied to BamBam's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love the food network!! I like Rachael Ray a lot. Have you watched Easy Entertaining with Michale Chiarello? Lots of great ideas and easy to modify if need be. -

ARCHIVED My Current Diet
wolfie replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How about peanut butter on rice cakes? I was not a fan of rice cakes before going gluten-free, but I do eat them now with PB & strawberry preserves. I use the Lundberg Brand. If you don't like those, how about PB on your apple? Can you do dairy? I would add cheese to your chicken breast and maybe have a snack of cheese or cheese sticks (like string... -
ARCHIVED Glutened At Bonefish Last Night!
wolfie replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I know....I am the queen inspector, but those sneaky carrots in the garnish looked just like the steamed carrots. I think next time I will do the mashed potatoes w/o gravy instead since it is easier to see the difference. Bonus, the managers told me that in a few months they will have a gluten-free brownie on the dessert menu. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Chocolate Cake In Everyday Food Magazine
wolfie replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks so much for sharing!! I will be making this for sure! -
I took the kids out to Bonefish Grill last night and I ended up getting glutened! I ordered Lily's Chicken (which is amazing BTW) and the steamed veggies, no butter/seasonings. I made sure that the server knew that both DS & I were ordering off the gluten-free menu. When I started to eat my veggies I thought that the carrots tasted kind of sweet, way...

ARCHIVED When Potatoes Turn Green
wolfie replied to StrongerToday's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I thought that you could just peel off the green? I have used potatoes that have had green under the skin....I guess I shouldn't be doing that? Yikes! -
It may be that it has only been 11 days. Is it possible that maybe he accidentally got some hidden dairy? I hope that he continues to improve!

If you can get to a Wendy's, they have a few different gluten-free options. You can find the gluten-free menu on their website. If anything get a baked potato and a frosty to tide you over. Maybe next time if you think about it in advance, pack yourself something to eat from home. That way you know it is safe and you won't starve and be tempted to...

ARCHIVED Falling Off The Wagon (advise Please!)
wolfie replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought about this a lot in the beginning b/c I did a lot of feeling sorry for myself. Then my son was diagnosed and he also has to eat gluten-free and I think that actually made me stronger. It is a pain to cook more from scratch, but it is much healthier in so many ways, not just gluten-free. There are a bunch of easy meals that you can make. Here... -
ARCHIVED Candy, Just A General List
wolfie replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The list is actually on a yahoo group called Silly Yaks. It is a wonderful list. I printed it out and sent it to my son's teacher. She likes to bring in treats/prizes for the kids and she can now go off of the list. -
I completely agree with Momma Goose. Since your son is already gluten-free and doing very well, skip the endoscopy & torture. He obviously has Celiac based on his blood work (ttg) and the positive response. I think the only other thing that I have read about that can cause high ttg levels is liver damage or something like that. I also asked our...

ARCHIVED Symptom Cycle - Related To Monthly Cycle?
wolfie replied to lisalouryan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Very true for me too. I am now back on the pill to control the hormone disaster and bleeding (sorry for TMI) that I had going on. I have noticed that I feel much better all around now and it has got to be the hormones being level instead of up & down all month. -
Before going gluten-free we did eat out or do fast food more than we probably should have, it was just easier with the kids and busy lifestyles. We used to get McD's or Wendy's or something along those lines. Or we would order pizza/wings. Now I do a lot more cooking at home from scratch. We do still eat out on Wednesdays after ice skating, but usually...

I thought it was online, but maybe the manager printed it out for me. I usually eat the lettuce-wrap protein burger (just burger, tomato, onion, cheese & lettuce). Comes with a green salad or you can sub fries. Their fries are fried in a dedicated fryer. My son gets a burger with no bun and fries.

ARCHIVED Biopsy For 10 Year Old
wolfie replied to nothungry's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is a tough one, but probably not. Especially with positive ttg. Jon's ttg was 222 (was supposed to be under 20). Also, remember that the endoscopy/biopsy can only rule in Celiac, it can't rule it out. If there is patchy damage in the intestine, it could be missed. Good luck and let us know what you decide. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy For 10 Year Old
wolfie replied to nothungry's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 10 yr old DS had the biopsy/endoscopy under general anesthesia last July. He did fine. However, we have been testing my 4 yr old DD and I don't know that I would repeat that unless they were looking for other issues. The main reason I went ahead with it for DS is that I am not biopsy confirmed (went gluten-free after bloodwork before I knew better)... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chips And Ketchup
wolfie replied to pajamama2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Enjoy Life makes gluten-free, soy free & dairy free chocolate chips that are very good. Heinz Ketchup also has onion powder in it. Could that be causing his reflux? -
We just asked our Ped GI to do the gene test on DD. We don't have the results back yet, but I believe they were sent to Prometheus. I asked the GI to do this test b/c she has been tested a few times for Celiac via bloodwork and everythig was negative yet she continues to complain of tummy pain. She is 4.5. They have her on glycolax now to see if that...
